Memory lane - I had the black 0-6-0 in about 1963 - it had 'SynchroSmoke' if you put the right oil down the funnel. Always tried to stop the loco in mid-puff so that she'd sit there with smoke curling lazily from the funnel....

Good to see you taking up wild camping. I'll be 70 this year and have been wild camping since I was 20. I have a few tips: one way to climb hills at the right rate is to only breathe through the nose- this automatically reduces the speed of ascent to what you can sustain. I would advise trying to reduce your all up weight to around 9 kg. A simple 40 litre rucksack is enough for an overnight trip & I have used this size for 2 week backpacking trips on the C2C, SW coast path etc. Currently I use an Atom+ UK made pack (wt <500 g), but there are plenty of other makes of ultralight packs of similar spec. Similarly 1 man lightweight tents can be had at less than 1 kg (eg Durston X mid). you need to be ruthless in minimising weight to have a more enjoyable time, especially when getting on a bit. Love the MG, by the way.
@MrQuintonia29 күн бұрын
Thank you, I really appreciate the advice. I can't really change my equipment to much now as not on the same wages now I'm semi-retired. ;) But I do have an Exos Osprey lightweight 58 liters that I am considering using, also the tent I have is the Hillieberg Akto which I spent a fortune on and really love it, and at 1.7kg not immensely heavy considering it's sturdy construction, the one I used before was 2.7kg, lol... I understand what your saying and I will see what I can do to keep the weight down to as least as poss... Thank you again and I will be putting up at some point a vlog on my gear I will be taking and would be pleased to hear any more advice, I will try out the breathing technique next time I'm out... Chris...

Good to see the MG again! (And Lucy of course) That steep incline did look very steep on my telly! 12KG is no mean feat and I think you are more than capable of this, some people I know that are younger than me couldn’t make that hill without the pack on! Don’t sell yourself short at all! Going down the gears makes total sense and I recon you are smashing it! Holding out a camera and talking too really does make things all that more difficult too! I think you did an excellent job of the hill, if you did a walk around the block every day with that pack on you’d be amazed how that will help your walks uphill too. Lucy is a beautiful dog, you are so lucky! Bless her! Can’t believe how empty the car park was at the end there! All in all you did excellent and I don’t think that a wild camp is out of the question, my god the key story 😅 my worst nightmare! It’s not a bad boot for a 2 seater!

However, I may have to risk the MG again. It has had some major work done to it and seems to be in good running order. I would struggle on the train with the gear I need to bring, as finances now are not as abundant as was, I'm planing a base camp with one tent and bringing my secondary tent for the wild camping. But, if that doesn't work and it may all fall apart yet, I will come up anyway. Take care my friend...

Amazing! I was literally about to comment what is the difference between standard and super 8 and boom! Full description and demo! The set up is so precise and fiddly with so many steps, I just know I’d miss one out 😂 I wonder why film was decided to be at to 8mm originally? It’s so good that you are keeping this old tech alive! Really love the sound it makes ❤️ the timing change between both formats is a huge jump to! The cog marks being between frames vs in the middle of frames, such a huge difference in format, would love to learn the reasons behind the changes! It’s maxing how much things have changed in such a short space of time isn’t it? 400ft is crazy!
@MrQuintoniaАй бұрын
Thanks Stu, 8mm film was developed because the expense of 16mm was to much for the normal enthusiasts, so 16mm film was cut down the middle to produce 8mm, cheaper and cameras were cheaper too, thus allowing more people to make home movies... I use to own a project that could hold 1200ft this one and my other can hold 600 feet... 600ft = about 26 minutes max... Cheers again mate, glad you enjoyed it...

I used to have a computer from 1993 that had these floppy 💾 games on it. In 2001 when I was 12 I came home from school to discover my dad hade taken it down to the dump, much to my horror and disgust. Even after 23 years my dad still refuses to apologise for it. All my classic video cassettes are also in the bin and he's even chucked away my video camera that I barely got to use that's in the bin. I know how you feel about old technology, at least it works and actually lasts unlike the rubbish today that iust falls apart at a moments notice.

I wish people would repair things more, not just chuck them in the bin and buy a new one. I say that to my dad all the time, repair stuff, recycle, etc!!!! Great to see you were into Super 8mm films and filming . I am now 70 years old and bought my first second hand Standard 8mm silent projector from Dixons and started collecting 8mm when i was around 12 - 13 years old . I paid for it with my paper round money and pocket money . I have never stopped collecting on film and now collect on Standard 8mm , Super 8mm , 16mm , 9.5mm and even some 35mm . That was a very good print of Tom and Jerry which seems to be judging by the box cover art was a Derann Films release on low fade colour stock . Did you know that film collecting never really went away ? It simply went underground so to speak . There are still various Film Collector conventions being held here in the UK and in the USA and elsewhere . You can also still buy used prints from UK film dealers . Classic Home Cinema who are online and Independent 8 mail order . Watch out for ebay buys though as there are some dodgers on there asking silly prices for film prints . Thanks for sharing this and i also enjoy watching your 78's and model kit posts . I look forward to seeing more posts in future on 8mm . Cheers !
