Nice review of this set British Infantry with your assessment of the quality, execution and pose. The figures are nicer in detail than the older Airfix figures and after your painting they look really good. Good work, Ronan. All the best in these difficult times. Greetings, Joachim

I am perpetually bemused by the refusal of any manufacturer except Revell to provide a figure with a 2-inch mortar.

HäT included 4 of these in their WW2 British Mortars set, along with many other useful figures.

Nice vid Ronan. I'm quite disappointed that there is no all round good Airfix British infantry in the quality of the no2 set of the 8th army. These are an improvement but not great. However, I've got some for my RF battalions and I will mix in hat support weapons and a few conversions. The first WW2 British infantry was the type previous to this. The very first type of supposedly WW2 British were the British infantry combat group. Like all the first types they looked like they'd been chiseled out of brick and were obviously meant to be toy soldiers.

Nice review Ronan. But I think you are being too kind to these fellows To be fair, one of the nice things you can say about these fellows is that they are better than the original Airfix Brits, but there is something wickedly ironic that two better British sets come from Taiwan (Caesar) or Germany (Revell). The Plastic Soldier Company set is more lively! Pity, the 8th Army Airfix set is much better, as are the Airfix Australians and Gurkhas. But I think the Esci set is probably better. A pity that this is Airfix, which does so well with so many others. Then again, they really do need to redo those Commandos. Your painting of these guys really helped them. I agree the officer and the Piat prone fellow is great. Funny you didn't mention the guy on the front who looks like Ben Stiller.

I use a bit of Uhu glue to thicken up the legs, also used it to convert some Esci 25lbr gunners to NWE and it comes out okay. Shame the Revel set is OOP, the chap walking with the bren gun was a source of nice brens for carriers. One hopes Airfix will redo their Paras one day, most are not really usable in the present set (dates back 40+ years now) and with Revel OOP that only leaves the Italari sets. I make up sets for kiddies and I try to keep it to no more than 2 of any one pose but with 50 per side that can be difficult.

@@tikkitikkitembo148 Sorry for delay responding (looking after an elderly relative). I don't sell the sets I give them away to folks who don't have much. Imaginative play is important for development but I get to make all the things I would have loved when I was ten. A 20mm scale 'set' has 50 or so soldiers and a couple of tanks for each side, usually with a couple of mortars (cocktail stick and bent paperclips or HaT if I can find them), a 54mm scale set for younger folks has about 20 troop per side and maybe a home made artillery gun or mortar. I fill the box with a load of 'scenery' (hills, trenches, bunkers and houses with removable roofs for access etc.). Total cost per 20mm set is typically £30-£40 including paint and glue but I only manage two or three each year. This far they have gone down well, kids haven't changed it's retail that has shifted the emphasis from constant scale inter-operable models to fits-the-box scale overpriced merchandising tat with minimal play value.

I don't know what your opinion is, but I think the airfix should really bring its figures and size up to date (some sets are good, others are so small and they are still listed as 1/72 instead of 1 / 76 sold) i know that many hobbyists see this company as part of their childhood and i hope it will stay with us, but i don't buy anything from it because the scale there often doesn't appeal to me and the shapes of the figures are very knotty ... there has to be just something new strelets e.g. It used to be impossible to look at, but they really woke up the last few years and recognized that the historical tabletop also helps the conventional model building hobby, but companies like Italeri, Zvezda, Pegasus and Hät (armor fast) have also recognized the signs of the times I hope you understand me, use the translator because my English is not good

Hi Luke, I used the colors recommended by Airfix for their British WW2 Infantry Support Group. They were Humbrol, 26 for the uniform & 83 for webbing. I should have used 102 on their helmets but didn't bother. After that , just matt black for boots etc,a random brown for wood and then some basic shading/dry brushing. I put a light coat of Citadel Nulin oil over all that.

hey im new with these figures do i just twist and pull to get them off the sprews or cut them off with a knife or scissors?

You are probably better cutting with a clipper or a knife. If you twist, you might break something you don't want to.

@@brodieelement3284 That happens bud. I use a modelers knife to cut them lose and sometimes I cut off too much. I think the pros use the clippers. Have fun with your guys.

@@brodieelement3284 you can use a metal file to even out the bases. Just trim/chisel the base down until its flat and even.
