Best set of 1/76 or 1/72 figures ever made. I bought some in 1983 and they still look brand new and pristine. I bought more sets over the years and they are still the backbone of my Japanese Army.

Thanks for this. I've never seen the Matchbox Japanese before and they look good. Especially like your paint job. It would be great to see any of your wargames units...always a welcome glimpse into other folks methods. It's where I get most of my ideas and tips. Again, really appreciate the video.

Cheers for the review. I am currently assembling a 1/72 Japanese army for chain of command, and the matchbox Japanese are an awesome set of figures, but are difficult to source. I shall keep an eye out for some on ebay. I am with you regarding the polygonal basing, which I find much better than square or round bases in terms of both aesthetics and practicality. The flat sides and chamfered corners allow the soldiers to fit into much tighter positions on the tabletop.

Still got my original set from the early 80s. Love all the Matchbox soldiers I have.

Hey Ronan- Nice review of a classic kit. These really are excellent molds and figures. Nice job with the painting. They are a bit small but match up well with some of the other kits. The Airfix kit are also a bit small (are they HO or 1/72?), and while the Revell (1/72) Japanese are a bit big (but really a nice kit), I think these match up pretty well with the Waterloo 1815 kit (which is pretty good- like what you might imagine Caesar would produce). If you want to mix and match the Japanese, there are some really nice Strelets set that have been done fairly recently that add to the mix to build a Japanese battalion.

Hey John, yeah they are 1/76 which is about HO/OO, some of the other brands you mention are pretty nice too. I have been meaning to do a Pacific wargame for some time now but I always end up somewhere west of Berlin ! I really must get some of the other brands you mention as it might motivate me. All the best, Ronan.

@@HayesRonan Hey Ronan- Well, here's a thought. You've been mixing and matching for your war gaming, which probably means you have extras from your figure kits. You could possibly divide up some of your British/Commonwealth kits to have them serve in Asia. British troops that might be fighting the Germans in France or Italy, could also be fighting the Japanese in Burma, but you may need to pain their uniforms a bit different. Additionally, some of the armor kits you have could be utilized in both NW Europe or SE Asia.

I really hope all the model kit manufacturers standardised the scale instead of coming up with multiple scale.

Got mine in 1982..... I remember some of the instructions on prepping them the paint was washing them with Tide LOL. The ones that I see that is kind of hard to find is the Russian Infantry and the German Mountain troops one

In some of your videos you mentioned that you dont put vehicles on bases. I am 50 - 50 with my vehicles on bases. For smaller dioramas, no base, with larger table surfaces i prefer bases on vehicles to prevent damage from rough handling. Is there any reason in particular you prefer not to use bases for vehicles?

Did they make Japanese 1.32 Scale?
@HayesRonan6 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid not. They had planned to and even went so far as to announce it as far as I recall. However the company then had some troubles and it never happened. Lots of info on www.matchboxkits,org if you're interested.

Can you find the matchbox version on Amazon?
@HayesRonan5 жыл бұрын
I doubt it as they are out of production about thirty years. You may be lucky , but Amazon would not be where I'd look. Keep an eye on ebay, they come up often, prices can vary a lot however. All the best, hope you find them,.
