AirForce Texan .45 Air Rifle - OVER 700 FPE! Hunting with the New African Air Ordinance Super Valve

The big bore airgun market is innovating like crazy right now and we have some amazing rifles hitting the shelves like the Umarex Hammer which is an awesome beast of a gun and will get a lot more airgunners into the big bore hunting game.
I had heard about what Jeremy King from African Air Ordinance was doing over the last year or so with his 4500 PSI valve kits for the AirForce Texans so I reached out to him to see how the product development was going. Working with Lethal Air in Virginia - those guys have been doing a TON of R&D on these valves and they aren't done yet. I was able to get my hands on one for some testing and all I can say is WOW!
When you watch this video - take a moment to consider that you can get over 700 FPE on the first shot with over 950 FPS or you can set it to have the first three shots in the string all around 900 FPS. In earlier testing that resulted in: 894 FPS - 903 FPS - 894 FPS - all over 600 FPE and that is UNREGULATED straight off of the onboard bottle! That is amazing and for a hunting situation that small of a 3 shot spread as far as velocity is EXACTLY what you want so you don't have to start using your mill dots to compensate for point of impact drop from shot to shot.
Ok - so I want to clear the air (pun intended) for a minute. There are shooters out there shooting modified STOCK valves from the AirForce Airguns factory and shooting these with heavier springs and pressures higher than what AirForce says is the limit (3000 PSI). I have had shooters reach out to me and tell me they are running their modified stock valves and bottles at 4500 PSI because of their back of napkin math that they determined to be safe. PLEASE STOP DOING THIS! This AAO valve and carbon fiber bottle have been engineered from the ground up to operate at these higher pressures.
These are early results and there is a newer AAO higher flow top hat and larger valve bore that will be here in the next week or so. Stay tuned for those results...

If you go up in pressure you have to swap the spring to get it to work.

Way cool Chris! Thanks for all your efforts and sharing. I just got my AAO set up for the 308 Texan I traded for. Mr. Hollowpoint is recommending 150 gr as a starting point once I get rolling. I am curious as to whether or not I will end up there or in the 165 to 180gr much the same as my 30/06 loves. Cant wait.

I wonder what the difference would be using helium with that 350grain. How close do you think it'd get to breaking the sounds barrier?

Blake Browder We are gonna find out today.... got a full tank of Helium from the SCUBA shop. Based on my calculations we will get well above the 1140 FPS sounds barrier with this 350 grain slug. With my .357 I was able to sling a 174 grain slug 900 FPS at 3000 PSI on air and 1150 FPS at 3000 PSI Helium. So I've done the 4500 kit to my Texan and I've got a question about tethering. I have a 74cu tank filled to 4500. So inorder to tether I should be able to just connect to the on board tank on the rifle and the pressure should match the 74cu tank. I ask as I had done so and both the compressor pressure gauge and the 74cu bottle gauge both read 4500psi but the gauge on the on board bottle read 4900-5000psi. So I was wondering if maybe just that gauge is off or since that the 74cu is bigger it actually creates more pressure on the smaller on board tank and raises it past 4500psi.

I have a question for you because you seem to be the airforce guru. I have a Texan .357 that I have shot many slugs through. The gun seems to like the Hunter Supply 127 gr flatpoints the best. I have never been able to get any real accuracy with the gun. I know you have been experimenting with these gun for awhile to get the best bang to the buck. Any suggestions on what I need to get the gun shooting descent groups at 75-100 yards. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Exactly flat trajectory will definitely help plus them big giant pellets they're flying at 700 feet per second not very good try to keep your gun in the 900s that's where the power is

@@connorwolfsoutdoors2017 this is what we have to do to get airgun to pass as I requested for airgun hunting in Wisconsin awhile back: Dear Mr. Khang, Thank you for e-mailing the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) about the possibility of using big bore air guns for hunting in the future. Secretary Stepp asked that I respond to your question. The laws of the State of Wisconsin must be changed to allow this new type of weapon to be used for hunting. The DNR cannot change the laws. You would need to contact your state legislator to request this change. Or you could work through the Conservation Congress process to ask the Legislature to make this change. The Conservation Congress makes recommendations to the Natural Resources Board for changes in hunting laws and the types of weapons that can be used. I would suggest you think about attending the meeting in your county on April 14, 2014 and writing your idea into a resolution that other hunters could discuss and vote on. If your resolution passes then you have a number of other hunters who can help you support that change if and when it gets to the Legislature, who must change the law. Tony Branton ???? What you are hearing is the air slam into the microphone since it is right in front of the muzzle blast. This Emperor is very quiet and Donny is coming out with an extender for those of us shooting at these higher pressures with a larger expansion chamber. 198 yard shot was by Eric Henderson. He’s been shooting big bores since the first Quackenbush in the 90’s. Cool that you’re a 100 and in. Maybe it’s an aim thing. Yeah, typically don’t take long range shots deer hunting even with powder burners but you make it sound like they’re not capable of killing at long range but the most certainly are. Easy, if you’re a half ass shot. I’d shoot at a coyote at 200 with mine. Pull up your dress and grab your balls hoss. I should have one of these channels. Maybe I will .. 🤔
