Another nice video my friend. Those HDP50 compact launchers have been making the rounds. I think all of these sub-20 Joule launchers are cool and fun but folks need to be very careful when thinking about using something this weak for self defense purposes. Pepperballs yes/maybe, kinetic impact rounds no imo.

Now all of these concerns about velocity only apply to UNMODIFIED examples. When you take out the plastic valve block /expansion chamber block, the velocity goes up a sizable percentage, making kinetic projectiles perfectly viable with the compact. It's very easy to do and reversible. I've done it to two compacts and I don't even carry the pepper balls anymore. It's a simple and satisfying bit of work and brings the velocity up to and a little beyond that of the full size model.

When there's a threat that isn't lethal to you. If there's a lethal threat to you, you don't go to a pepper ball gun, but a real gun. So if there's a non-lethal threat to you, you go to the pepper ball gun. You pull this out. Now anybody around you who is carrying lethal has a right to react with lethal, because they perceive you just drew lethal for a non-lethal situation, making you the aggressor in their mind. I'll take a pepper ball gun as a non-lethal option, but I don't want it to look like the real thing.

Is this comfortable as a concealed carry device? It seems like its still not easily fit inside waistband

It is. It’s very small. But I’ll be honest, I went to make a video with this gun two weeks later and it was broken. I only did that one video with it and put it away. Came back to it, loaded it with CO2 and ammo, gassed it up, the trigger pulls, no shot comes out. I’m sure I just got a bad sample. Easily replaceable/returnable. But something to think about

Good work again my friend. Don't worry too much about missing out on the hdr with the laser. For some reason, every time a manufacturer builds one of those little cylinder lasers into a weapon, they are really bad. You are right in recommending people stick with pepper in the Compact. It's not going to give the velocity to make impact rounds very effective. I'd also like to mention that the rubber rounds Umarex issues are not actually good for Umarex pistols. They have a bit too much friction for reliable feeding from tubular magazines. If one wants to use impact rounds with any tube mag system they should run smooth finished hard plastic or nylon balls.

Unfortunately not all states allow Pepperball rounds. Here in California they are illegal to own or use unless your BSIS certified by the state, and even then they have very strict laws on the use of them in public spaces. If you use one wrong you can and will be charged with both the Discharge of a Chemical Weapon in a Public Area and Assault with a Chemical Weapon, both of which are Felonies here.

I'm not sure I understand the logic of forbidding people pepper spray, but no one asked me. So I'd forgo the Compact. Maybe figure a way to pack the full size HDP and run hard nylon. Good luck man.

I want more power and rounds, Pepper is good on a calm day and up-wind. Also I would shoot a pepper ball at the ground by the bad guy's feet to ensure the ball ruptures. I have had pepper ball rounds bounce back at me staying intact. Good video as always!

I had the same problem with hdp 50 compact, it stopped working, I only shot like 3 shots before then, I noticed the trigger was not going all the way down like it usually do, I remember it did that once before than got unstuck, so dis time I tried it and nothing untill I really pulled hard to as far as it goes and it poped back in place and shot, it's not a reliable gun at all for self defense, it has a cheap unstable trigger that sticks and won't shoot unless pulled really hard!

It’s small size makes it easily carried or stored close at hand and is definitely a point in its favor. However, I see it’s 4 shot capacity as a negative. I would hope for 6 shots. I think nylon 1.5 gram will penetrate more, those rubber 1.3 gram are soft wen they hit, also alluminum 2.6 rounds may damage more but fps may drop to upper 200s to 300 if it's not cold out, with more joules u can use 4 gram 8 gram amo etc, which will have better stopping power but I think pepper rounds are under a gram and are best with weaker joules, they have more expensive 10 percent and up pepper rounds that way 1.5 gram.

Now that was an interesting video. I think that a lot of people are wondering what is a good form of self defense they can use when they are out and about. This gun is a decent option, except it’s a bit on the bulky side. Perhaps you’ve hit on something here for upcoming videos. Things people can carry around with them that are effective, yet non lethal. Oh, by the way, I laughed my head off at that dummy’s loin cloth. Interestingly placed, but somehow, I don’t think it would help in the protection of his privates. 😂

QUESTION: For any one... Had this model for 3 months+, have been firing hard rubber balls. Last weekend I tried Pepperballs. Pulled the trigger nuthin? with a new full Cart and indicated fully extended rear tab. Tried again... very hard to pull trigger, but nuthin? Decided to unload... Only 3 of the 4 Pepperballs would come out? The stuck one appears intact! Anyone have this problem? and if so what did you do to fix it? Thanks in advance.

rubber balls are designed to penetrate. they are designed to wallup and bounce off ( AND HURT!!) so I don't hold it against the gun for not going into the jug. solid plastic ( nylon) balls might.

Lo suyo es hacer una prueba con una persona para ver los efectos de las bolas de pimienta. La prueba no necesariamente sobre su cuerpo pero si que el polvo llegue a respirar y ojos. Según parece estas bolas de pimienta de Umarex no detendrá eficazmente a un asaltante. Umarex tendrá que mejorar su formula

I wouldn’t use this as a self defense weapon. Firstly in a confrontational situation statistics show a distance between parties of 6’or less giving you no time to use those 4 balls.You would be affected by the pepper ball. In this country the color scheme could easily be mistaken as a toy.Thanks anyway for the review.

aha !.. this gun is handy..because it's small, easy to carry and very suitable for firing "pepper balls".. i like that.. but there is something i don't understand; when you said "dear umarex" suddenly your wife showed up and gave you the gun... i think check her bank accounts dude, she may have started a job at umarex secret from you.. (if you find one of these in your wife's bag, don't make any noise and don't make any mistakes... hehehe )

Are these BB gun options for people below 18 years of age? Or individuals who have lost their gun rights? What country is this in? Are real firearms not available? Is this for pest control? Because their are better conceal carry options available like things chambered in 9mm , 45ACP, 10mm, 40cal, and if you’re a weirdo maybe the FN 5 7. I think they might actually serve the purpose a bit better instead of agitating a real threat, with possibly a real gun on them ??? This is like making seatbelts 💺 out of paper.

So these launchers are made by Umarex which is a European brand. Also the world has more than 200 counties and the US is among the only ones that allows pretty much anyone to own a firearm. In the rest of the world, or in many countries, people can rely on this kind of defense. That said, my house was robbed once - while I was sleeping. Turned out it was children who broke in. Would you have pulled out a 9mm, 46ACp, 10mm etc on them? I sure as hell would’ve not. The little they stole was not worth their life. Scenarios are infinite and can vary very much, the idea of always needing deadly force is a bit over the top - if you ask me.

@@AirgunAlley I get it , Ya statistically way more likely to not need a firearm. But there are situations that are “life threatening” and deploying deadly force is needed . In that rare case, all of that will be for nothing. Also maybe even presenting an air pistol will cause a threat to retaliate with a real firearm , which one won’t be able to defend against. And just because you have a firearm at your disposal doesn’t mean you have to use it. Idk hard to say I guess.

I got 24 joules from mine by removing the valve block and using 2.6g rubber balls, I even have a reel on my channel about it
