Hey Papieats, I have something to share. I cook exclusively indoors. Been buying some great deals on nice Prime ribeyes from WalMart. When I cook them in my flat frying pans my house will smoke up, gotta open the windows etc. When I use my grill pan, with grill ridges, the amount of smoke is greatly reduced. Big improvement as far as smokiness goes. Also I have a vent fan that looks like it’s from 1970. It filters the air from the stove area and shoots it out the top, it does not vent outside at all. It doesn’t do a great job of reducing smoke on its own… but noticed a huge difference with way less smoke when I use my grill pan.

Pretty cool! I did not know such a thing existed. I live in a rental in a very old house with a tiny kitchen with no vent. I usually have to cook with the back door open to keep from setting off the smoke alarm. Looks interesting.

Only catch is you can’t use it with a gas stove. So if you’re electric and lacking any sort of vent at all, this might help!

Why can't we use it with gas stove? and Is there anything else like this for gas stoves?@@PapiEats
@misssophie65158 ай бұрын
@@lilyannschultz8676 I have read of people who used it with gas stoves and a little more distance, but it clearly says in the instructions that it shouldn't be used with gas stoves, the reason is not entirely clear to me, maybe ask the manufacturer directly?

Hey Papi, what does this do for smell? I hate food odors, and i live in a 568 sqft condo - did this reduce odor?
@PapiEats Жыл бұрын
It helps. It doesn’t eliminate it. The place seems to freshen up more quickly when I cook with this.

I'm a finely trained chef and can detect micro particles of smoke not visible to the naked eye😁 Thing sounds like a wind turbine in a jet propulsion lab. Still tempted to get one. Thanks for the update.

Doesn't it collect liquid from the steam?
@PapiEats Жыл бұрын
There’s a charcoal filter in there I assume collects that and then I assume the airflow dries it and dissipates it better than it just traveling upward. I’m pulling that out of my butt though. I haven’t used it with a ton of steam yet.
@foodify6611 ай бұрын
Do you need to replace the filter ever or just clean to reuse it?
@PapiEats11 ай бұрын
The main filter you just clean. The charcoal filter you eventually need to replace. I haven’t had to yet. I think this came with a replacement or two?

Honestly not sure. Haven’t changed mine yet but it’s probably due

It helps for sure, doesn’t totally eliminate them.

thanks for showing this, interesting invention. just a quick tip (no offence) I don't know your pan of course, but if I want a chicken breast that is tender and not like shoe sole, I briefly sear it on high heat on both sides, and then lower the heat. if your pan is not hot enough when you are putting the meat in or if you try to loosen the piece of meat and turn it too early (before it loosens voluntarily, when it still feels stuck) the whole juice in the meat escapes and you are left with a chewy and dry result, no matter how long you cook it. same with other meats for pan frying. the pan needs to be super super hot at the start, there should be way more smoke, you can test if it is ready to go in by dipping in a corner of the meat briefly, it should instantly sizzle and turn white, if nothing happens, the pan is not at working temperature. and if you have a lot of meat, say you are making 800g of goulash, fry it in portions, otherwise the amount of meat all at once makes the pan loose quite a bit of its temperature and in that moment the juices also escape, and then the meats are cooking rather than searing and once again you get the rubbbery result.

thank you for the video. It’s hard to see but it’s very helpful your telling us this device works. I think you would need a black background for the smoke to show. I have ordered one and fingers crossed it works for me

All these portable "hoods" have a similar design. I wish some of them were more far reaching, where they could be kinda above the cooking surface. I guess they are trying to keep the units away from the rising heat, but I think that type of design would be more effective.

Of course it’s going toward it, the question is if it’s coming out of other side. Basically how is filtration?

@@PapiEats Thanks. The FAQ says its possible as long as you keep a distance from the flame. Does the distance affect the effectiveness of it working well?

It got my attention on Kickstarter because the microwave hood vent in my apartment is worthless. You still have to behave with this one and not go overboard with smoke but it really helps!

unless those are vented to the outdoors, they just blow the grease and cooking smells into the room. If you know of a really excellent, non vented type, please publish the name of it as I wish I could find one that is truly effective.
