To all that have commented on my comment, I don’t see anything negative so maybe a rude comment was taken down?. Any way, I used to work in a profession where we had different insignia or rank markings, sometimes you’d put on the wrong one (old one) or sometimes you’d get them mis-matched, we would give each other a good ribbing all the time, Garrett’s videos are great and this just shows his human…my comment is meant to be a joke

I just realized after watching your video about your parents new home that I actually met your dad, Jim, when he was a captain at US Airways pilot. We were doing a make a wish flight and the child asked to see the cockpit, and he was one of the sweetest human beings i've ever met. You're lucky to have me as a dad..

There’s a minimum of 2(at airlines) and there can be more if the flight is superrr long so that pilots can get rest while others take over. I hope that makes sense.

He used to be a captain in the past and then he went back to first pilot officer that’s why he has both and this isn’t his actual uniform that he wears to work it’s to film videos. I never understood de-icing. If the plane is wet from rain and then begins flight, isn't it way colder up in the atmosphere? Wouldn't the water freeze on the moving parts of the plane? Or what if you encounter snow midflight? Why isn't this a problem, but it is on the ground before takeoff? Thanks.

The leading edge of the jet’s wings and tail section (the impact points) are heated using hot (bleed) air from the engines so ice doesn’t accumulate. While airborne the slipstream over the wings prevent ice/snow from sticking to the top of the wings. If you’re in the clouds near near freezing temps we turn on engine and wing anti-ice systems. On the ground with the aircraft stationary the ice/snow accumulates on the wing and tail surfaces and have to be “de-iced” prior to flight. Type I and IV fluids are used. Type I de-ice’s the aircraft while Type IV prevents additional ice from accumulating for a time period while on the ground. It then shears off during the takeoff roll. FYI…wing anti-ice bleed air is so hot that the wing anti-valves will close automatically after landing to prevent damaging the leading edge of the wing. It needs the cooling airflow over the wing inflight to prevent an overheat condition. Retired Airline Capt..
