Are pilots always gone? My dream is to become a commercial airline pilot but I'm scared of never having a family or giving up lifting weights..
@josepheverson791711 ай бұрын
Hey man!! If you live in base you can have 15-18 days at home per month! It’s pretty great!! Also.. lifting on the road is a big commitment but it’s totally doable. There will be some days where you work into your extension and pull a really long workday and can’t get the lift in but it’s fairly doable consistently. I lift almost every overnight. Sometimes I have to take a Lyft to a larger gym for leg day but I manage to get it in.

@josepheverson7917 Hey, thanks for the insight! I know to become a pilot, there is a lot of studying (I study a lot for math classes in college to get an A) is that level of difficulty compared to flight school..? (I'm not a lazy person just curious).

Hey Garrett, I just wanted to say thank you for the quality and unique videos! Something that I appreciate about you is your honest take that airline pilots don't always live a life of luxury. There are tough days and sacrifices that pilots make. Videos that explain pilot workload in cruise, as well as the differences in type ratings and reserve schedules are often not explained in a way that people outside of aviation can understand. One of your videos a few years ago explained getting into aviation for the right reasons. This confirmed my decision to become a commercial pilot and commit to an airline career. Now preparing for my CFI checkride, I am still motivated by your videos and realizing how much work you put in to explaining aviation topics at an entry level. Thank you; happy flying!

I appreciate these quick vids. I’m trying to figure how to get my license while working a full time job then the concern of not getting hired to fly in a timely matter is probably my biggest fear. Thanks to all the pilot-tubers for sharing their experiences.

You had us with dispelling these myths. Except when you dispelled myth number 7 I think you like crushed a lot of people's dreams. Just kidding! But I always wondered, how do pilots wake up so early when they have a 4 am pick up time, do they train their bodies to go to sleep even when they don't want to? Do pilots get tired of eating at the airport with the same restaurants or snacks on sale and do they try to bring their own snacks in a lunch box to avoid paying those crazy airport prices? Do pilots try to learn a second language, like if you were a pilot in Europe and flew to many different countries each month or even in the US, if you are an American pilot who always flies to France or Italy or Japan, would it help to pick up a second language or do you end up picking up a second language anyway? Do pilots get backache from sitting all the time? Do different airplanes have more or less comfortable seats? Is it true pilots cannot both eat the same meal, like they have to eat different meals to avoid getting food poisoning at the same time? And is it true you cannot be on antidepressants because of the risk of serotonin syndrome while flying? And most importantly: HOW do you always keep your apartment clean, do you always clean on your off days and have a routine for grocery shopping and tidying and errands lol?

What would happen if the autopilot refuses to switch off? Didn't this happen to those new airbuses a few years back and they nosedived? Is there a way to manually disengage the system so that can be mechanically controlled over electronically/digitally controlled?

Is four stripes versus three stripes in the US based on FAA ratings or commercial company guidelines? How easy is it for a US FAA rated pilot to get approved to fly in Europe The UAE or Asia or Australia for that matter? And the reverse do we have any Aussies with licenses here on US carriers? Thanks for the Myth Busting!
@equilibrium78811 ай бұрын
4 stripes = captain 3 stripes = first officer Don’t know the answer to your other questions though
@robertrawley111511 ай бұрын
@@equilibrium788 That's the question...who designates captain vs first officer? Is a BBJ private pilot or Airline pilot a Captain because the FAA rating says they are? Or is the Company calling a pilot a captain because they choose to? because they can?
@robertrawley111511 ай бұрын
Is the rank of Captain a Private or Public Company decision, or is it an FAA designation that comes with a license and rating?
@robertrawley111511 ай бұрын
@@UnbeatenPath1 Thank you, I had come to believe pilot crew ranks were based on 'Tradition' with Aviation using naval and military terms, rather than a government-forced rating/rank system. In getting the public off of Trains and Ocean Liners and to feel safe in the skies, it makes sense the aviation industry would tell the public that a Captain is in charge to make them feel safer in the air. Again thank you for clarifying where the rank of Captain comes from... Private companies make the designation. And thank you for keeping us safe in the skies whichever seat you're occupying!

Hey Garrett! Regarding Myth #4. If you are type-rated to fly a 737 and then want to get a type rating to fly a 777, what happens to the type rating for the 737?
@garrettsimmonds790911 ай бұрын
You keep the type rating and it stays on your license. With that being said, you cannot just jump between flying different types of aircraft without recurrent training and assignment.
