My friend went through the exact same thing when traveling to Hyderabad from NYC. She didn't threaten to take action, so no one helped her. She took the flight on the next day after a layover of more than 18 hours. She wasn't even provided accommodation citing non availability of hotel rooms at the JFK airport. No airline does this even after knowing the rules. They will ask you to accept the meager coupon or just book your own flight again and fight for weeks for compensation (which they know most people won't do and won't get). They have so much legal technicalities involved that they will prove why they are not liable for any damages and compensation to you. It is a lost cause.

Not bad tho it should be higher Airlines should give you 400% the basic fare + aur fuel charge(max 20000) and you are also entitled to a full refund of the value of the ticket if you have not booked another flight. And if they have arranged an alternative flight which is after 24 hours of your should have been departure, the compensation is capped at 20,000

It doesn't work in real life. I was left helpless at a ₹35000 domestic ticket. My senior citizen Mom wasn't allowed to stay in airport. They didn't pay for hotel. They didn't even let me pay for hotel & just help to FIND the closest safe hotel in Bengaluru. I know nothing about the city. The manager was on phone with me. But said there are no flights available. Next flight is next morning. So where will she stay? At best he made her return back to origin station in same cost. So, ₹35000 to go nowhere. Back to where you started from But atleast she wasn't stranded in that God forsaken airport.

Mostly this airport staff are rude during such times, i missed my flight with Go First just because the did not send me boarding pass after web check in. When i reached kiosk at airport it said boarding closed, they were so rude that they did not entertain my questions, finally i had to fight them through mail for months and then finally they gave me credit shells, but now that is of no use because of they have cancelled all there flights...😢

Talking generally, in India we might have rules which stipulate compensation or even a company’s own terms might, but reality is no company would ever follow that and readily give you the benefit because the only option in case they deny is to fight it out in consumer court (which very few people do given the involvement of time and resources not to mention uncertainty of outcome). Companies are aware of this and exploit this to the full extent by making it difficult to reach customer care in the first place and then making consumers jump through the hoops in order to get a resolution.

Not all travelers are entitled for compensation in the form of cash. It depends upon the airline and their policies, from and to wherever you are traveling… but most airlines will provide food and accommodation according to what time your next flight is. Sometimes you will get a cashable or a non cashable voucher that you can use for the future trips with the same airline. Most airline staffs can’t help you with the refunding the ticket but have to go through the customer care where you will be having a record or reference of your complaint which will help you to follow up with the existing complaints 😊

My sister was denied boarding Cairo to Toronto at the last minute because she didn't have a transit visa for Amsterdam, (which wasn't actually necessary, she just had a 3 hour layover). Unfortunately she couldn't fight back from the bullying, and she couldn't call my family since we were all already on another flight. By the time we landed, we learnt from my travel agent that my sister had called and booked a fresh, same day direct flight from Cairo to Toronto for 90k INR purchased on my credit card. EgyptAir never responded back to my complaints.

I had similar experience with united airlines travelling from charlotte to Hyderabad. I was just on time to check in luggage but there was so much queue and they denied me to getting into airplane because check in was closed. They said they would allow me to fly without luggage.
