@@willo8794yeah this music brings back memories for me, I was very into the music scene when I was young! my dad was over there in nam too! He started out in Korea in the early fifties, then he came back stateside and then once again He found himself back over there stomping around in the jungles of Vietnam before the 60s rolled in! He completed four tours of Duty over there in all! He went on to complete his last two tours of Duty in Vietnam back-to-back 1965 and 1966 and then he came home for a hot minute for T.D.Y. at Fort Huachuca Arizona and then he jumped back over there for his last Tour of Duty through the till end of 1967 on into 1968, anyhow the music was cool back then, the birds the doors The Beatles, I was very much aware of the music scene and of course I have always love the Chamber brothers and the Rolling Stones, I used to play a lot of the anti-vietnam protest error of music far into the ladder 70's and sometimes my dad would come into the house and he would hear some of those old Tunes of Music that I had on 8 track from that era but anyhow he said some of those Tunes brought back memories and he recognized and remembered a few of them, he even said some of these Tunes were kind of Haunting! but it was these Tunes that I remember and cherish still today, it is great music! this was music of those times!

#AirplayBeats This psychedelic soul classic was written by two of the four Chambers brothers, Joe and Willie. Joe wrote most of the lyric after sitting in on a class at UCLA with Timothy Leary and taking LSD. Willie put the music together & contributed the line, "My soul has been psychedelicized."

(@lesblanyak 5947)Yes so was Timothy leary's inadvertent discovery of la surgic acid, the funny part about LSD is Timothy discovered it accidentally while taking a moment for lunch as he ate some rye bread while dipping it in some dressing, I believe it was blue cheese, I'm not sure, anyhow he was working on an extra credit project at Berkeley in the chemistry Department while he was taking a bunch of cultures and halfway through he broke for lunch and afterwards as a result of not washing his hands,he inadvertently contaminated some of the culture samples in the Petri dishes involving the extra credit project he was working on, anyhow some of the cultures were contaminated and there were various molds growing inside a few of the Petri dishes, there were all different colors of this mold and it was wild looking! six or eight of the Petri dishes out of a maybe a hundred 120 of the cultures within the Petri dishes were contaminated, he tried to backpedal back to that afternoon when he broke for lunch, to try and figure out how and where he contaminated the cultures to figure out how he botched the experiment and in doing so he got some of the contaminated contents of the mold on to his hands and inadvertently experienced his first hallucinogenic high from the raw and unsynthesized la surgic acid that the mold produced! The rest of the story is history! Obviously he did a pretty good job reverse engineering his mistake and it gave birth to Timothy's LSD! AKA "La surgic" Saga! (the mold that grows off of Rye germ while in a controlled environment in the presence of citrus acid and of course after being synthesized and cleaned up etc. etc. You wind up with a pure form of the said byproduct!)

The tick-tock sound was made by the alternate striking of two cowbells, warped by reverb and echo. Also, the fuzz guitar is mixed with a clean guitar to produce that psychedelicized tone. Columbia Records rejected their first recording of this in 1966 (a shorter, different version). When their debut album did well , they went whole hog with this recording in 1967 for the second album. And had a huge hit.

Born and raised in Venezuela, I. along with much of the world's adolescents, took a deep dive into the 60s/70s rock revolution. I used to hear "Time" on the radio, never paid real close attention to all the lyrics,. But I was captured by the drive and energy. A psychedicized call to attention. It was riveting. Still is....

Great band. Underrated. Some of the best R+B vocals. The Chambers Brothers were able crossover into the rock world with "Time..." This was a freaky psychedelic trip of a song. Dig deeper into their stuff. They were the real deal.

The lead singer is Lester Chambers. Back when I was a young chick rock singer in San F,rancisco, I recorded at CBS Records with Fred Catero, the CBS Chief Engineer. Fred was the producer/engineer of this track. Fred recorded pretty much everything CBS released between 1960-the late 1980s. Fred worked with all of the 1960s SF psychedelic bands incl. Santana, Janis Joplin, the Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, and every other hit record ever recorded on Columbia/CBS.There's a whole other story about the instrumental in the middle of the song, which I can tell you if you wanna know, but this track is, to my mind, the greatest feat of studio engineering ever recorded. I got Fred a coffee mug for his 80th birthday that said "More cowbell!, because he was completely unaware of the whole running Saturday Night Live "more Cowbell! gag.

I bought this album in 1968 as an 8th grader and loved the vocals, driving beat and psychedelic feel of this song. The music of this era is unsurpassed, so varied and free. Wow, how luck i feel to have experienced these great bands and happy that they are immortalized in these recordings. I always loved that little homage to "Little Drummer Boy". Thanks for this "trip" down memory lane.

I was eleven when this song was on the radio. Always tried to listen to the longer version on college radio stations or on album oriented rock (AOR) FM stations. You never heard this part of the song because even back then, radio stations wanted to confine music to the 3 minute play. AM stations never played full cuts. They got in the way of the non-stop advertisements. FM stations had been the playing field of classical and some jazz. But in the late 60's FM stations began to pop up, many of them broadcasting from college campuses, operated by genuinely hip people. You'd hear full length songs you'd never heard before. Or songs you'd only heard edited versions of before. The 60's changed things radically. For real.

Such a classic 60s hit song. This wasn't "Bubblegum" music for the teenyboppers, it was a full-on LSD fueled psychedelic experience. This was the Hippie/ Drug culture, and the music reflected the times. Race riots across America, the Vietnam war and it's protests, The Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, etc. They were dubbed "The Turbulent 60s." The one great thing about the times, was the music, and the artists. Not only was the music great, but there was also so much of it, you couldn't keep up with it. Rock, Motown, R&B, even country western music was in it's Heyday in the mid to late 60s. I don't know why, but that era is really unmatched for musical greatness. Maybe the 70s comes close, but that's it.

Motown and Rock opened up FM radio but I remember all 70's there was still a lot of music stations on AM Radio. I don't know but I wonder if this song was somehow tied to AM Radio stations legally because it wasn't very prevalent on FM Radio. But so many new bands busting out maybe it was lost in the shuffle. The summer this tune was a big hit there was a summer tv show that was like a battle of the bands and in the end it came down to Sly and the Family Stone versus The Chambers Brothers, Sly edged them out and the rest is history. 2:17 In those days if you were "homeless" it was a choice. If you had a job you could provide for yourself and fam no prob. These days @ 2/3 of workers live paycheck to paycheck and its a disgrace. Great work fellas!
