Surprised you didn’t talk about the environmental impact. AirPods have a small battery and delicate components that degrade quite fast, and everything is sealed in meaning repairs aren’t possible without breaking them. This essentially means AirPods are a consumable product which has huge implications on the environment. E-waste is already a massive problem and these aren’t helping.
@baahemian3 жыл бұрын
Thankfully you can get the batteries replaced in your pair by third parties thanks to hard work from folks like pod swap- it’d a damn shame Apple didn’t put in the extra work to set up that process themselves but 🤷♀️

@@baahemian Further more, Apple assholes are doing everything in their power to stop that (independent repairs) from happening. Please check Louis Rossmann's channel for more information. He's an independent repairman with a small NY shop, and the shit Apple and other companies have done/are doing is mind boggling (I'm from EU, so we're less impacted due to better consumer protection laws). He's taken up the mantle of a hero (in my book), and has been pushing back with promotion of right-to-repair laws and legislation. @sagichdirdochnicht46533 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they are actually right, but most of the times, they are just annoying users, trying to sell them other shit. They were AFAIK the first major company, that ditched Discette Drives. There was quite some outcry. In the end, they were right. It's gone for good. Then they ditched DVD Drives. And to be honest, it's barely used today. I got one in my Laptop and used it like two times in the past three years. Sure gets more use, if you buy all your Games physical, but other then that, DVDs are dead. Even Blurays are more or less pointless nowadays. But in a Laptop it actually makes sense, because those drives are fucking huge. If I bought a new Laptop, I wouldn't concider a Drive as well. And their famous Macbook Air, were they ditched basically all connectors for USB C. Thumbs up for USB C honestly, especially that early, but the implementation sucked. At least one full size USB A, please. There was basically no USB C Product out there at the time and even now shit like a mouse or whatever is rare, tough it gets better. But conveniently they sold a incredibly expansive Dongle... Yeah... For the Headphone Jack there is no excuse still. I personally prefer my wireless Overear Headphones. But many like their wired Headphones, that won't need charge. And it ain't gonna change. I even use mine almost daily, since I listen to Audiobooks in my car over that built in 3.5mm Headphone Jack. It was basically only done to sell their Airpods. Waterproofing, courage, space, my ass. Unless they built phones that are physically to thin for a Headphone Jack, it can go in. Wich would be dumb Idea btw. Some have even done it, and it sucks to hold. Others of their "invention" they keep quiet however, because they simply can't justify it, even to hardcore fans, not with courage, not with anything else. Like soldering RAM to the Motherboard. Wich makes replacing and upgrading impossible. RAM dead? Machine dead. Or their glorious idea to solder the SSD to Motherboard. SSD dead? Machine dead. Or later removing the one connector, that allowed to at least recover some data from the Machine. Machine Dead? Data last for good. Or their great Butterfly Keyboard, that is proned to fail and at the same time almost impossible to replace, unless you are really good at repairs.

i’ve had my airpods for 3 years and never lost them. being a little more careful is a trade off i’ll take for not having to have my phone on me at all times when my headphones are connected (women know the struggle of never having pockets to put it in) and having them ripped out of my ears every time i walk through the door. also, maybe i just have perfectly shaped ears or something but my airpods have never fallen out and are really secure so that really isn’t an issue at all. they charge so quickly too (max 5 mins) that i don’t really see that as a downside and it’s not like you have to plug them into an outlet to charge them as the case will charge them a good few times before needing to be plugged in. they connect immediately and music stops when you take one out to talk to someone which is better than wired ones that don’t. add to that they’re discreet so long hair covers them if you want to listen to music at school (got me through year 11) and overall i just think they’re so much more convenient despite looking a bit dumb

To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. kzbin.infoUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. I do not like that Airtight fit. So that's why I'd stay with this version as the best trade off of comfort, use, and overall feel.

What I like about apple is their computers, especially laptops. They work really well and last quiet long, at least for me. No Apple computer lastet shorter than five years for me, and my last till this one is actually still working after 8 years. Its just that It got too damn slow and has not enough power for a lot of modern programs I run. But then again, every other 8 years old computer would also be quiet hard pressed to work fast now. I also like their phones, those also last me pretty long and they just work nicely together with my computer. What I don't like is apples accessory's except for the trackpad, but I am still using mine after 8 years and its still going strong, so its not getting replaced. But AirPods, tastatures and so on? Yeah, nope, no way I will buy Apple. I use a vast mix of devices from different companies. For example a nice mechanical Logitech keyboard and such. From my resent travel down the wireless headphone hole, Apple airbuds don't have the best sound quality but have phenomenal no-lag performance and their pros have excellent ANC and transparency mode. But i do think the consensus is they are over-priced a bit for what they are.

@@Kebersox 50% of music listeners stream their music and 99% use streaming services. People don't buy portable headphones for the best sound quality, and no one is listening to flac files on their phone so the audio quality argument is dumb. And it's hard to call them overpriced since there is no product with equal features on the market, their integration with Apple devices is second to none. They exist in the more premium section of the market like all apple products. The correct critique of apple is their anti consumer business practices, most of their products are all exceptionally high quality.

Have you tried a semi-decent wireless pair yourself, though? Not to poop on your opinion - I just think wireless earbuds give a massive boost to convenience/comfiness, and I know quite a few people who were sceptical about TWS trend only to never look back after checking non-wires.

@@JennyTheNerdBat yeah I've got the audeze lcd 2c with an amp+dac, obviously the wired sound nicer. If I were to compare streaming Spotify on my audeze vs air pods Pro there is not a big difference in fidelity since Spotify does not stream at a very high fidelity compared to flac files i use for my wired headphones on a pc. Obviously I wouldn't use my airpods Pro sitting down at home and use them almost exclusively through my phone. The sound quality is about as good as I've heard in iems and certainly not noticeably "bad". My biggest critique of the airpods Pro is that a lot of the features aren't available to android users for no reason besides incentivising you to buy an iphone and the sometimes dodgy bluetooth connection.

One thing wireless earbuds are great for is wearing them under my helmet while driving my motorcycle. I use a no-name brand pair I bought for 30 dollars for that exact purpose. Other than that, nothing beats good wired headphones in terms of audio quality.

Also, having bluetooth on always, all the time, even when your pods pass out... Is a massive security risk... I suppose Apple didn't have enough courage to develop an accessibility feature, or setting which allows your phone's Bluetooth to only connect to your buds, then immediately turn off if disconnected.... Or some other protection that would really have been considered
@MrRussor2 жыл бұрын
That would require updating the Bluetooth spec. which means real innovation (as opposed to removing features from their products and calling that innovation instead)
