Tinder actually sounds like something out of Black Mirror. A massive corporation has put dating behind a pay wall, and is actively profiting off of people’s loneliness, destroying average looking people’s self esteem and unjustly inflating the egos of attractive people.
@dusanradojkovic8190 Жыл бұрын
It's not that simple. Even some conventionally nicer looking guys get bullshit on these apps. It's all dependent on the algorithm and your photos. A lot of times it doesn't even make sense. For instance, with me, I've gotten some photos that get decent to good scores on Photofeeler (with lots of Yes's for Attractiveness, even by higher standards women), but still my match rate has never really changed. I occasionally get some quite attractive women, but the match rate's never gotten better. It's just quite rigged against you, for the large part. If you're going to virtually never show someone's profile on the card deck because it apparently didn't immediately pop off, what hope do they ever have of getting further unless they maybe fully reset their account with professional photos from a photographer who charges $2000? Ridiculous.

Women's expectations have gone crazy as a result of this too. Every man needs to be over 6 ft and earn a small fortune. Even very average women expect this. The double standards are ridiculous. I am both open to guys and girls on tinder (as a guy). While I matched with 133 guys, I only got 1 Woman during that time. Yes, one. Its not like I look stereotypically gay either. Straight dating on tinder is a joke as a guy. And it makes sense. As a guy you swipe right most of them and girls can be extremely choosy and are very rare on the platform. The odds are just stacked against you.
@Winasaurus2 жыл бұрын
When you're a girl and know that basically every guy is swiping right on you, it's easy to be super picky. It's why a lot of women now have ridiculous dating standards and are struggling to find a guy to settle down with.

Tinder exploits the problem of loneliness, and particularly that loneliness that stems from lack of a romantic partner. It exacerbates the problem, in order to manipulate people into parting with their money. But it does not create the problem. There are a lot of people who are single (yes, mostly men) and have little prospect of finding a partner for one reason or another, and society judges them harshly for it - the 'adult virgin' is a stock character in comedy, always depicted as a man who failed at being a man. This horde of desperately lonely men are easily to exploit for profit, but also create fertile ground for anger and resentment. That's how we ended up with the incel subculture.
@Sluppie4 жыл бұрын

It's also a toxicity that drives that culture. Most incels are brain-cels whether they acknowledge that or not. A minority are unfortunate looking men with extenuating circumstances but most have dsyfunctional personalities and are not treated. They use alloplastic defenses to blame individuals rather than an isolating, alienating system that breeds discontent with the natural means of meeting natural drives in a healthy. All to propagate conspicuous consumption that imbues people with the illusion of being or having traits of the things they consume, including other people. If you do not or cannot become x, then appear to be x by associating with x or consuming x. People don't know true intimacy from a young age with families too busy trying to survive and being raised by advertising that say you can furnished love through...objects. So there has been a break down of community, as flawed as it can be and a void where natural emotional needs lay wasted. Also the thing of being shamed for having and expressing these needs, especially as a man. Where you are told the only safe emotions are anger and impassiveness. It's a cluster f-word. Women are highly emotionally dysfunctional too but compared to the repressed and shamed average men, they feel healthy. And the weirdest thing of all, most parents have done a kinder job of raising their children than their parents and so forth but that break down of community has left us with little support to brace ourselves against. Real love is somewhat a risk but it's the only investment worth the gamble because the pay off is so rich even if not idealistic. Much better than spending your resources on a human slot machine or a human buffet. Instead we should be growing are gardens and sharing our shade, if you are alone your still self-fulfilling and productive in the long-term not just at a wasted urge. Then when you find someone to share this personal garden with, you actually can, because you have internal resources you've been cultivating instead of junk you've collected from impulsivity, performative interaction and simulated intimacy.

It's no surprise that many men use tinder to blindly swap right on every single match, and then only consider profiles later. As a gal I never feel flattered getting a match knowing it's so mechanical.
@xXTheBl4ckC4tXx2 жыл бұрын
Those men it also hurts the most, just imagine swiping right non stop and not getting matched. I would never dare to install that app. I look like a 6/10 that is not good enough. So I stay away.
@arthas640 Жыл бұрын
@@xXTheBl4ckC4tXx the part that really sucks is these dating apps have actually impacted peoples ideas of what "average" even is, which skews opinions of attractiveness. A study on dating apps found that 80% of men are rated as appearing "below average" compared to 40% of women, and the women polled only rated less than 5% of men as attractive. It's the same with other areas of social media, the fitness community online has been dealing with spiraling toxic attitudes about physical fitness and attractiveness since sites like Tik Tok and instagram make it so that tons of people are all competing for attention meaning only the top 0.1% get much attention. Thats why there's been skyrocketing numbers of premature deaths among body builders in the last few years, even among people who live at the gym they're finding it impossible to keep up since social media keeps shifting peoples perception of what "fit" actually looks like. Even professional bodybuilders are finding it hard to keep up and are needing to get more bulk AND lower body fat percentages at the same time. Just look up the top bodybuilders of the silver age of body building (basically the 40s, 50s, 60s, and early 70s) like Steve Reeves vs many body builders on social media today: before Schwarzenegger Reeves was the gold standard of body building and today he'd be luckily to win state level body building contests rather then Mr Universe and Mr Olympia

They're not really creating the problem. The problem is that far fewer women need this kind of app to get into a relationship. So Tinder has to try and manage the situation.

It's difficult to discuss the ethics of tinder as a male on the internet without it divulging into a big incel-ridden circle jerk of toxic masculinity, but he does a great job in my opinion. I got suckered into paying for tinder gold for MONTHS because my self image plummeted so low that I thought it was the only way to feel good about myself. Being on tinder made me pick myself apart and hate every aspect of myself on a nightly basis. This was really damaging to my psyche for a while, but I couldn't stop; I was addicted to tinder. I spent countless nights swiping non-stop and going to bed hating every fiber of my being after not getting a single match. Dating apps can be dangerous to those who aren't in the mental space to see that it's all a big scam. They profit off the insecurities of the lonely. There needs to be more research into the negative mental health effects of these dating apps.

I feel you man. I played the online dating game for years with extremely minimal success. Not only did my bank account shrink, but it helped facilitate a spiraling depression as clearly no one thought I was "worth" paying attention to. I don't know the statistics, but I'm certain the points of this video applies to all dating apps. Hell I've tried them all. Just hoping to get lucky one day an meet someone in real life. As fat of a chance as that is.
@Azoonaloc132 жыл бұрын
its disgusting corporate greed whether you're a man or a woman. the algorithm artificially restricts your range (male or female) for no good reason and if you do get matches its almost always from the same pool of people. the app is designed to dehumanise and capitalise on human suffering and loneliness. hope you've gotten better.

I was excited to go to college because it would be a level social playing field and therefore be easier for me to make friends and get a girlfriend. Work on yourself and forget about the idea of dating for a while. Thats what I started doing since the transition to online learning. Dont bother with Tinder, itll suck all of your time and leave you unhappy. You are competing with 4 other men for every one woman on that app and chances are, they are better selfie takers than you because they have nothing but time.

Though I personally know people that have successful, long-term relationships that met on Tinder (no way in hell am I speculating on the specifics of said relationships though. Just take two facts at face value: they met as Tinder matches and they've been together for >5 years), they're also good looking people. So it is possible to find something serious there, I think there's a pretty high barrier to entry. I gave Tinder a shot after I found out how they met, and even got a couple of matches. But never met up with anyone from Tinder. They all ghosted after a few hours.
