Having recently trialed the Bose NC700, the XM4’s and the AirPods Max, I’m going with the NC700’s. They seem to just offer the best bang for your buck. Are they as good audio wise as the AirPods, no, but in every other area I think I prefer them. The Sony’s were discounted quickly due to their poor mic performance. At half the price of the AirPods, the NC700’s are 85% as good and that’s why I can’t justify keeping the AirPods.
@wwoodhouse3 жыл бұрын
StannyBWrath they’re leagues better than the Sony but my own tests would suggest it’s much closer with the AirPods.
@leonmason773 жыл бұрын
I’ve got the NC700’s too as well as a pair of AirPods Max which I picked up last week. I am still evaluating them as I am really happy with the 700’s otherwise. What made the difference was when Bose updated the firmware to allow you to add custom EQ. I find the audio is better (not huge amounts) but yes it’s better on the AirPods Max. The ANC is a lot better and as I watch a lot of films suing my iPad Pro 12.9 and iPhone Pro Max then the lower latency makes audio lag less noticeable and this is the standout for my personal use. I also really like the spatial audio which really pops in some films and programs. The case is horrible and as Rene said the buttons are not located in the best place as I too press them inadvertently when moving them on my head. I love Apple products, but there seems to be some really strange design choices at times with them. The AirPods Max are way more comfortable than the NC700, and I do not notice the extra weight. They are well made and will stand the test of time better than the Bose I imagine. I initially bought Space Grey as my phone and iPad are, but soon thought it was a bit bland and boring so went back to Apple and swapped them out for a pair of Sky Blue and so far I think I have made the right choice for me.

Obviously a lower price would be better for consumers... but in my experience after two weeks they outperform the competition on all levels: very comfortable to wear (once you find the sweet spot), excellent noise cancellation and transparency modes, very good sound quality for music and excellent for voices (movies, youtube, podcasts, phone calls,..), convenience in the apple eco-system, excellent build quality... All combined the price makes sense. If I go back over the past few years, on a yearly basis I easily spent the equivalent of the Air Pods Max’s on competing products (Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, Bowers & Wilkins), and while none of them are bad (the Sony build quality was rubbish and B&W very uncomfortable) - I obviously kept looking for the one that would do it all without fundamental compromise and these seem to be it (for my use case).

Very well presented👍. Even I, a 75-years old “gentleman” from Sweden, could understand your explanation. BUT - I was missing your explanation of Apple’s totally new handling of the music. I think you were onto something with a future Airpods Max that could stream directly from the Internet. i.e. with no phone, no watch. Just direct Internet connectivity. Apple has a long history of taking things from the Mac and pushing them into the iPad. From the iPad into the iPhone. From the iPhone into the Apple Watch. Devices become more and more independent, and at the same time interdependent on the other devices you own from the ecosystem. The HomePod is no exception. It's basically an iPhone in a speaker enclosure. It has its own WiFi, doesn't need to stream from a phone. I could see this happening with future Airpods headphones... pulling directly off of your home WiFi when available, so you don't have to carry your phone around the house.

Great video! Rene. I’m an audiophile and I can easily say that these headphones are great. They rival audiophile headphones in some aspects and are easier to listen to then some of them. They are not amazing in any one respect, except perhaps their (as expected) build quality. But, they do everything really, really well. Rene’s analogy with them being the HomePod strapped to your head is accurate, I feel. For those interested, they go to another level when you use the Apple cable, stream high-res music (which Apple Music frustratingly doesn’t do), and plug the APM into a quality DAC.

What I would love to see is Apple release a new version of the Beats Studio 3 over-ear, wireless, noise-cancelling headphones with H1 chips, computational audio, and a lightening port for about $350. Then wait for a sale. It would be a good way for Apple to give us something more affordable, but still somewhat premium, without diluting the AirPods brand. is there an "off" audio option? on the AirPods Pro there are technically three modes that produce sound: noise canceling, Transparency, & "off". the latter of which basically turns them into normal AirPods sound signature wise, I'm assuming because it turns computational audio off, but it still plays sound. Does AirPods Max have an "off" function?
@davidpele99673 жыл бұрын
off just turns off Noise Canceling and Transparency which also indirectly affects their sound signature since they are solely focused on producing music or sound. They are still doing their computation audio magic which you may or may not like
