Please listen to Jonathan, if you’re a Canadian Airsofter then please email, call, write, reach out to your local members of Parliament to tell them why you enjoy the game of airsoft. Tell them how Bill C-21 will destroy thousands of jobs. Teach them what Airsoft is about, inform them positively and nicely.

Germany is going to follow at some point. Airsoft guns are already falling under the same law as actual firearms. No license needed (wich I wouldnt necessarily mind actually. would maybe make people more responsible because of the walking around with it thing.), but if you put a light/laser on your gun, it is the same law that gets violated that prevents people from manufacturing machine guns from civilian guns.

Part of the problem in Canada is we have a public health minister who has a personal vendetta against Canadian firearms owner, and he is hiding behind a notion of public safety. People here forget that at the same time he was failing to deal with gangs as Toronto’s chief of police, he was ordering peaceful protestors to be pepper sprayed. We have not had mass shootings with legally owned firearms in Canada. What we do have is a serious issue with opioid related deaths and traffic collision related deaths. Which minister Blair completely ignores

Here is the EXACT wording of the C-21 amendment: "1(1)The definition replica firearm in subsection 84(1) of the Criminal Code is replaced by the following: replica firearm means any device that is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, a firearm that is designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second and at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules, and that itself is not a firearm, but does not include any such device that is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, an antique firearm; (réplique) (2) Section 84 of the Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (3.1): Certain firearms deemed to be prohibited devices (3.2) For the purposes of sections 99 to 101, 103 to 107 and 117.03, a firearm is deemed to be a prohibited device if (a) it is proved that the firearm is not designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules; and (b) the firearm is designed or intended to exactly resemble, or to resemble with near precision, a firearm, other than an antique firearm, that is designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second and at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules."
@vadeblade3 жыл бұрын
In non-lawyer language the amendment is designed to accomplish the following: "Ensure mid-velocity 'replica' firearms are prohibited Update the Criminal Code to ensure that any device, including an unregulated airgun that looks exactly like a conventional regulated firearm (i.e., shoots over 500 feet per second), is prohibited for the purposes of import, export, sale and transfer. Current owners may keep their 'replicas' but cannot transfer them to anyone else. No further 'replica' firearms could be imported into, or sold/transferred in Canada. This amendment does not affect other types of airguns that do not exactly replicate a conventional regulated firearm." All above is quoted from Canada federal public records.

In the first version rifle magazines with more than 10 rounds are prohibited items. Even objects that looks just like a 30 round AR-15 magazine, like a power bank, were prohibited. For airsoft would it mean we had to register our magazines with a high chance not to get it. So we got active and wrote our politicians and thank god it was changed. TL:DR C21 sounds similar to the VCRA act in the UK which the airsoft community fought and changed in its favour. Its not impossible to change legislations, have hope Canada! Right here it goes, third time trying to type this out! C21 sounds alot like the original 2006 VCRA bill and to an extent the 2017 Policing and Crimes acts that were implemented here in the UK. The VCRA sought to make Replica Imitation Firearms, RIFs for short, a prohibited item in the UK. Just fotr clarity UK law defines a RIF as as "an imitation firearm which has an appearance that is so realistic as to make it indistinguishable, for all practical purposes, from a real firearm", which airsoft guns most definetly are. If the original form of this bill had passed, airsoft would have been limited to non realistic looking firearms, such as discussed in this video. Then in 2017 the policing and crimes act looked at properly defining airsoft guns in UK law and at the same time blanket limiting the output power to around 1J. Admittedly this is less of an issue as airsoft could still largely continue under these new rules, but all types of airsoft weapons would have been limited to 1J. In both these instances the community were able to lobby the government and help shape the legislation to allow the sport to continue. We were able to do this through the means of two representative bodies, UKAPU (UK Airsoft Players Union) and UKARA (UK Airsoft Retailers Association). In the case of the VCRA they lobbied that RIFs are required for airsoft as a major part of the hobby is the suspension of disbelief when you’re playing (ie you can almost believe your not actually playing dress up in the woods) and that not having RIFs would break the suspension of disbelief. From this an exemption was added to the bill to allow the import, sales and manufacturing of RIFs for airsoft skirmishing. Although not expressly part of the law, a system was created by UKARA to ensure only active skirmishers could buy RIFS from retailers, which requires players to play a number of gamedays over a certain time period to be eligible to buy RIFs, this is more of a defence for the retailer though as if that player goes and uses that RIF for nefarious purposes the retailer is able to show they were an active skirmisher and at the point of sale they were selling it to them for that exemption. Again when the 2017 policing and crimes act came along UKARA and UKAPU were able to have input into the legislation and commissioned scientific research showing that airsoft firearms are not leathal at higher power limits than 1J and managed to get the bill to adopt similar power limits to those that sites around the country already used as gameday limits ( 1.3J for fully automatic capable RIFs and 2.5J for single shot RIFs). I know this is a big block of text but hopefully it can help, either by giving someone a idea of what to do, or as a sign of hope, legislation can be changed you just need to work together and rally behind a single message of this bill is not ok!

CCFR have a lawsuit and are welcoming airsoft lovers to join them. They have a You tube channel. They are also fighting for the latest gun ban in Canada that is killing target shooting 3 guns competitions and more.

As a Canadian we are looking for your help, I usually don't ask but our hobby/sport is in trouble, not to mention our several retailers and there lively hoods face the risk of closure.

Hey jonathan, I've been following your show for a couple of years and I really like it. I live in Germany and here we had a similar situation at the end of 2019. Due to a change in the law, airsoft guns with an energy below 0.5 joule (these are the only ones we are allowed to play with full-auto) have been banned. And airsoft magazines that look like a real magazine have been banned. Fortunately, the draft law was changed in the last instance so that it does not affect Airsoft. Here in Germany, the acceptance of Airsoft is rather low. Which is why it can be over with every new change in the weapon code (airsoft weapons are treated like real weapons in Germany in many points). I very much hope that our friends in Canada will find a way to continue their sport. I keep my fingers crossed for everyone concerned.

Most of the spacey looking guns are based on existing receivers, plus the issue you said. Also all of our existing 1000s of dollars of guns go in the trash. Airsoft has always been alot more expensive in Canada (a VFC Sabre can go for 500$ or more) so any half decent build it's easy to spend 1000$.

To lighten my weapon I removed my tactorch, green laser, torch holder, side rails and wow, the weight reduction was really significant and would never go back...But I still added a spitfire tracer lol

technicly it's not all airsoft that are prohibited but only those that look like a real gun and that are not classified as historical (1897 and older) also prohibited mean you can keep it by the grand father act but cant sell, donate, loan, import or export, technicaly you can still use it but the added a little thing that say that a police officer can ask you to show a prohibited item licence (that does not and never will exist for civilian) and if you cant show it then they can take it away and you can never have it back unless you can show them that imaginary licence that does not exist in the next 40 day. only way to keep airsoft alive if that bill were to pass would be to play with historical replica (1897 and older) or play with movie and video game replica that does not exist on the market as a real firearm

My problem at this moment is as we are in lockdown I haven't been able to play. So my UK membership has ended. So now I can't buy any new guns until I start over again and play 3 games in 3 months. So even if the shops reopened I can't buy anything

This happened already in Europe in a lot of countries, and players and stores in those countries fought and kinda reversed the bills. In Portugal, where I'm from, we had this dance quite a few times already and with a concerted effort of stores and player associations, similar to UKs UKARA and UKAPU, we were able to come to a consensus with government. Not everyone likes it, me included, since we need to have some parts of the gun painted in flourescent colours, but we can cover them during gameplay. In reality, in our case, the introduction of regulation meant that more stores could open, imports were simplified, as there was regulamentation for airsoft stuff. The player count grew nicely from the earlier days of no regulation. Canada's case is different, as the lack of regulation doesn't stop the business side of things to grow and exist. My advice, and this is what I felt was one of the points that made the government actually keep stuff as it was since 2009, was the business side of things. Business numbers make a difference.

Man, this is sad. Politics aside, people need to see the beauty to having a sport/hobby like this around. This has brought so many memories for me and many friends alike and it would certainly be a shame to see Canada start the ban bandwagon for this.

Maybe one avenue that could be explored is contacting a manufacturer such as Tokyo Marui, G and G armaments or even Novritsch and asking for help from a company business perspective. This will affect the industry as a whole it could spell the end of manufacturing and I’m sure the manufactures in China would be upset with the thought of loosing everything if this goes world wide.
@intrepidmind52643 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would matter if you used an airsoft rifle, a laser tag rifle, or a super soaker squirt gun, the politicians just don't want the general public practicing any sort of tactics that would be used in a fire fight.
