The time has finally come and XSonic has officially released the Airstep YT edition so you can directly control the Yamaha THR II amp without having to use the THR Remote App. I found this new product to be very useful when playing my THR amp because it was a breeze to set up and I was able to focus on playing guitar and didn’t have to do any programming. I updated my Yamaha THR10ii firmware a few months ago so had no problems when I first turned on my AIRSTEP YT. The AIRSTEP connected to the amp right away and worked as advertised. I was confused about how to go to the second and third modes. Thanks for showing this in your video. I understand what they are trying to say in the manual now. On a side note: I had to make sure that my presets were named the default name USER MEMORY 1 , etc in order for it to work. They mention this in the manual.

Function Key does not work on the YT. How do you change the mode setting on the YT? Mine has been stuck on Mode 2 from the factory and I can't get it to go in Mode 1 for the life of me.

Thanks for the video Drew this is great. Question for you,...in your video on the airstep lite you show that you can have the airstep and the the remote connected to the amp at the same time. With the airstep YT you cannot do that and can only have the pedal connected. Wouldn't the lite be a much better option as you can then use the THR app and the airstep at the same time. What advantage goes the YT have over that? THanks!

Hi Drew thank you for doing this video, is shows very well the THR presets loaded on the app, but I’m having a hard time assigning other functions in a more personalized way for my set ups. I have watched your other video and I wonder if in order to do what I’m asking I have to use another of the presets in the app and rename it.

The physical dials on the amp don't change, the effect preset is turned on or off using specific Bluetooth protocols from the Airstep.

Can you still have your phone connected on Bluetooth to run backing tracks while using the airstep? Or would you have to run your phone through auxiliary?

Yes, you can still play songs or backing tracks through the amp via bluetooth from your device.

Hi Drew. Thanks for all your videos regarding the THRII and the Airstep. I just recently got the THR30II and the Airstep (not the Lite or the YT). The Airstep seems to connect to the THR just as you describe (solid green that flashes blue about once a second) but it only controls the THR when the THR Remote App is open on my iPad. So, I guess this is a 2-part question. First, do you know if the Airstep has this same function as the Airstep YT (the Airstep is less than 1 month old)? And second, any ideas why I can't run the pedal without the app open?

Problem solved. I was using the Bias FX preset instead of the THRII presets. I went back and assigned the THRII-1, THRII-2 and THRII-3 presets to Banks 1, 2 & 3 and saved each one as I went along. Then I was able to close the Airstep app, turn on the THR30II, then turn on the Airstep, wait until the "I" turned solid green (with flashes of blue) and I was all set. Each of those banks controls the THR in different ways, just as you described in this video. Actually, there is one improvement. Once everything is set up, I don't have to turn off the THR when changing banks. I am able to change banks with the THR still on. I don't know if this is a difference between the Airstep and the YT or if they've just upgraded the firmware, but it's all good now.

My question is why did you not assign the THR11 presets to banks 4 & 5 or am I confusing banks with the 5 foot switches on the actual pedal. So your Airstep now functions exactly the same as the YT after those 3 simple changes? Thanks!!

Make sure you have the newest firmware on the THR. Then, turn the THR on and then the Airstep. They should automatically connect.

My video for putting the Airstep LITE into YT mode is coming soon, hopefully by Friday. You will not have to have the Yamaha app open for it to work, it will work exactly as shown in this video...after all, I'm using an Airstep LITE in this video.

Just to clarify, what I meant to ask before is, if you are using the air step lite as an air step lite (and not flashed to operate as an airstep yt), in that scenario, does the Yamaha app have to be open and running on your mobile device for the airstep lite to work, or can you just set it up, pair it through the app, then put your phone away and have it control the amp from there without having your mobile device out and running the app while you use the amp with the airstep lite. That is, if with an airstep lite, do you need to have three devices running at once, or only during initial pairing and setup? Thanks!

Yes, you can still control the THR with an AirStep Lite. You can go way more into details in terms of what you would like to control. You would still need to keep the THR APP open and running on whatever device you are using. XSonic may be working on an update so you don't have to keep the app open though I don't think it's ready or out yet.

Hi Drew, I just got a new Airstep YT last nite. It really is a great value. It connects fine to my THRii30 for the 5 presets (mode 1)but no luck with mode 2. or 3. Have you had a chance to get get your hands on the straight YT version and have mode 2 and 3 work. Thanks for putting out your videos, really helpful!!

Hi Drew, I've noticed that you use two HX stomp boxes in your intro. Have you tried to run them in front of the Yamaha THR since it doesn't have an fx-loop? If so, does it sound good? I love my THR30II and have just ordered the new Airstep YT Edition to finally change presets via footswitch, but I still miss certain effects like a fuzz, looper and different types of delay and reverb. I've also seen that it is possible to use the line outs of the THR30 as an fx-loop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6KvgIZ3e7dqjsk Do you have any experience with this? Thank you so much for watching! I have a video that shows me using pedals in front of the THR...but I think I'm going to re-do that video and mic the amp so you can really hear it. I've never used the outputs on the THR30 as an FX Loop, sounds pretty interesting. I'll check that video out. Honestly, if you've got the HX Stomp, I would get an Airstep or Airstep Lite. You'll be able to do way more with either of those devices. With the Airstep YT you can only control the THR. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching!

Hey Drew….I am a 60 year old disabled vet with brain injury so I get easily confused at times when it comes to signal routing and trying to figure out a solution for adding a second THR30 for a volume boost as I like busking and playing blues over backing tracks. So hoping you or one of your subscribers can give me some advice. I have the THR30 with the Airstep YT bluetooth foot pedal so I can switch channels or add effects which makes using the THR30 a joy. I also have the Line 6 G10 transmitter so I am fully wireless. So trying to figure out a working solution to ideally still be wireless, play along with backing tracks and use the Airstep foot controller. So here are my questions and would be so grateful if you or one of your smart subscribers could explain if this would work or if you have another suggestion. 1.). Can I use the Line 6 G10 relay to simultaneously control both amps? I read conflicting views online if that can work. 2.). Can I simultaneously bluetooth backing tracks from my iPhone to both amps? 3.) Same goes for Airstep footpedal. Any idea if my Airstep pedal can simultaneously control channel switching on both THR30s? My other idea is if the above option does not work, is take line out from amp 1 into Aux on amp 2 to get the backing tracks and guitar sound from amp 1 and feed the sound into amp 2. I would keep amp 2 on a clean channel so backing tracks do not get distorted and just use the Airstep to switch guitar channels on amp 1 so amp 2 just be used for the extra volume. Not sure if I can use left or right line out or would I need a stereo out that converts to the 3.5 mm Aux in. This would be ideal if it works because both amps would have the same sounds when switching channels on Amp 1. The other option is going line out on amp 1 to the line in on Amp 2 instead of Aux. Again not sure if I need a stereo cable that converts into a single 1/4 inch or just use the left or right line out. With this setup I would use a splitter cable from my iPhone so I can send backing tracks to the Aux inputs on both amps simultaneously. But if I take line out of Amp 1 one into line in on Amp 2, wouldn’t that mean the backing tracks from amp one would be also be distorted when I switch channels on amp 2 so not sure if that solution makes sense. Ideally I would like both amps to have clean backing tracks and the same guitar tones when switching channels. I also know there are pedals that give you a stereo output with one line output going to each amps input and I could also add a overdrive pedal to front end the THR30s but the sounds of the Yamaha amp are so amazing this would just make more gear to carry around so hoping there is a better way. The last option is using an external powered speaker like a JBL Boombox 2. Has anyone tried this option and if so how did it sound? The JBL Boombox 2 costs the same as a THR30 so wondering if this makes more sense? I just like the thought of using two THR30s so I could jam with another musician if they have a keyboard, bass or guitar. Plus it’s nice having a backup amp. Sorry for long post and I thank you or anyone of your subscribers who took the time to read this and recommend a solution. I am very grateful🙏

The PC assumes control over the THR when plugged in via USB. What use case would require you to change channels with the Airstep YT while simultaneously having it plugged into your PC?

So i buy Airstep YT, but can't use it, because i need to reconnect my PC and Airstep YT after every song (i always want to tweak advanced settings OR upload my saved presets for next song) Yes, i can turn off THR Remote, turn on Airstep, play, then turn off Airstep and turn on THR Remote, repeat. But it's obviously very tiresome
