If you go with the Carlock, you need to get the OBD power cable they sell too so you can relocate/hide the device. Simply tap into a constant power source and it will work fine. I recommend two of them for redundancy. Please don't hide it close to the actual OBDII it'll be found easily.

Carlock seems to make no sense because thieves are familiar with it and regardless of wired or directly plugged, they will remove it from the car immediately. Did I miss something?

I was thinking the same! If I were a thief, I would know where the Carlock is located and unplug it. It takes a second to do it. With an airtag a thief would not know where to find it

I bought the CarLock, the sensors and the Bluetooth tag. Waste of money it does not work in Australia - stuck with a worthless CarLock.

I’m on a watchlist therefore law enforcement,can hack anything WiFi or Bluetooth or any connectivity with my device therefore AirTags are useless. Car lock is somewhat useless unless they can stop the notifications from coming into my phone in real time which I don’t doubt.

Don't use the extender, get a OBD splitter, and the device will be hidden somewhere and the OBD port remain the same for future diagnostics

True, but it shouldn't be all that you have for security. It can also be hidden in the car, engine bay, under seat, carpet etc.. I have a plug kill switch and two hidden GPS trackers.
