Airvents (anti siphon valves) and yachts: how do they work and how do they protect your boat?

The siphoning effect can be very useful. But in the wrong circumstances it can damage your engine or even sink your boat. A VETUS AIRVENT protects your boat against damage. We briefly demonstrate the siphoning effect and how an airvent prevents that from happening.
The VETUS ASDV airvent uses a very reliable duckbill valve.
You can use an airvent without a valve by fitting a drainhose.

Is it okay to remove the internal part of the valve on the legacy product similar to the demonstration here with the newer valve? The vent tube runs to a small through hull above the water line, so no worries about filing the bilge.
