I know, I made one with 4 computer fans that were lying around from old pcs and a mini yeti cooler that has seen better days but works. running on 8 aa batteries at 12 volts. I run mine with dry ice and use it when camping and it gets a tent ice cold in 80 degree nights in FL. Mine is by no means pretty but it is functional and will run for about 12 hours, plenty of time for sleeping. And if you need a personal heater, and old hair dryer will be hotter than anything!

No you can't lol. I do HVAC and plumbing and you can easily get a small window unit for that price, but not a real portable one, which I advice against anyway. The whole point of an a/c unit is to take humidity out of the air, and portable units put more humidity in the air.

Great review. I'm in the southeast US. It was stifling yesterday during the day and then it rained last night and the storm knocked out power for 6 hours. I was able to fall asleep thanks to a 5 inch $10 battery powered fan that kept me cool. I have a second one that runs on batteries or USB, so I can plug it into a power bank instead of using disposable batteries. Also a 5 inch fan, also $10.

I have bought a few personal cooling devices over the years. None have enough airflow to produce any real cooling effect. Having worked a lot of outdoor events in the heat of the summer, the best and cheapest solution is a spray bottle of water I keep in my cooler. I periodically spray my face and arms and put a cooling towel around my neck. Works great! I also keep extra towels in the cooler so I can change them out. The only con is you might get a little bit wet, but who cares if you’re outside a while.

If they weren't massive cheapskates and just bought a generic cup and put a fancy lid on top, it might work well. The issue is that the fan can't force air through the ice, it relies on the air just naturally passing through the ice. That's already ineffecient itself, but it means that once some of the ice starts to melt and the water forms a barrier that stops air flow, it rappidly loses effectiveness. They should have gotten a hollow helical coper tube or something to run the air through so that it was in constant contract with as much of the ice as possible.

Great review but $160 for a 30oz stainless steel tumbler with a battery powered fan is absolutely absurd, especially considering as others have mentioned, you can get an actual portable A/C for that price.

Forget using it for heating and cooling. Put some kind of fragrance inside it and make some kind of air freshener. Seems like it would be better suited for the thing. Start off with dryer sheets. They are consumables.

It needs a heat sink such as a coil of copper tubing running water through coils for the air to pass over. Copper would transfer heat better than the surface of the ice and greatly increase the surface area in contact with the air. Blowing air over ice just doesn't cause enough heat transfer. Salt in the ice water would help a lot too.

Have you considered trying hot (not boiling, since that might result in steam related issues, I dunno) water for the heating? I mean, it's fine to have ice and ice water in the reservoir, so why not warm/hot water? It's capable of holding water, and it's capable of withstanding some heat (in the form of air activated warmers), so it's something to consider trying, even if it's not officially supported. Similarly, gel packs that you can heat in the microwave are an option.

This thing sounds as impressive as one of those little mist bottles with the fan on top, but it costs 15 times as much.

If you're not concerned about heat, just stick a fan at the end of the bed and use a blanket that allows some of the air to pass through.

Just a suggestion, try dry ice and see if that would help lower the temperature better and sooner

I wondering if the lid fix other metal tumbler cup? That would be a plus if you can just buy the lid and put it any metal tumbler cup like ozark or Yeti.

Do you even need ice? i have a big fan i used when it was 33C/91.4F and it was fine, although if i stopped using it my face would stay even hotter than without a fan, so i would need to use it untill it's not hot anymore.

My wife and kids bought me one before summer and I feel like you do. It does blow cold air but the stream is very small. The flexible hose is nice but it would be even better if you could put the nozzle on the hose. Also the fact that you can't use rechargeable batteries and have the unit charge it is a downer. Overall it does what they say but it would be nice if it was a little stronger airflow. Obviously they didn't see this review first...lol.

For the price point it really should have had a heating element, this is literally a cup with a fan. I am also interested to know if you put salt on the ice does it get cooler?

Makes me think of the old college-kid AC, a 5 gallon bucket, a couple big bags of gas station ice, and a fan resting on the opening of the bucket with a cardboard box over the fan taped to the bucket and opened or cut open on one side to direct airflow.

What about using dry ice? I would be curious to know how much cooler as well as how much shorter/longer the runtime could be if you used dry ice in one. Not that I'd suggest actually using it normally that way, just an idle curiosity.

if you where to add a CPAP nose mask, something small at the end of the hose, and breath in cool or cold air while walking/driving , you would cool off fast, instead of cooling the out side of you, cool the inside of you and use dry ice, ya the Airwril and a small CPAP nose adapter, i know it sounds way out there, buy it would work way better then trying to cool off on a car or camping, medicare would sell a million of them

Thats one of those Cold 1 cups that are out now. As a matter of fact I'm having a cold beverage out of mine now. I would say put a little water in there and see how it works. As far as the batteries outlasting the ice, I don't know. I've had ice last overnight in my cup.

This video needs an update. The regular price is now $49.99 and they're on their 3.0 model. It says it has more power, but since I never had the old one, I don't know how different it is. I received mine today and like it in this heatwave.
