Yeah enforcers or topsiders aren't used to the air quality of the undercity. It's implied that the air has improved since Vander's time (later on in the series) but if the enforcers need to run and do physical shit in the undercity they need masks.

You know, it just occurred to me: only Piltovan enforcers wear masks. Regular Piltovans visiting the Undercity don’t wear masks. For sure it can’t be a budget thing, because Jayce didn’t wear a mask when raiding the shimmer factory with Vi, and he was a councilor with plenty of money. I’m gonna guess he didn’t wear a mask all the times he went to the Undercity as a student to buy illegal equipment, either. Caitlyn doesn’t wear a mask when working with Vi, although she was trying to stay lowkey, so that makes sense. Heimerdinger doesn’t either, but I think he was trying to stay lowkey too.

@@KeitieKalopsia You probably don't need a mask if you're just going down to visit like Jayce. The effects seem slower and longer lasting than that. But if you're working there frequently and are physically exerting yourself (e.g. committing police brutality on the civilians) then you probably need a filter or mask.

The people from Undercity did not evolve to the pollution that much, actually. It is just that many of them fall sick and die early because of the air and water, but nobody really cares. Gas masks are just too expensive for them. Yeah, the subtle worldbuilding here is top tier. As is everything in this show. And yes, "Protect Powder at all costs" is actualy the main theme here.

The animation is 3D assets that are then hand painted over for textures, lighting, and 2D animation effects. Top to bottom every single aspect is painted by hand on every single frame. Another thing to note is Riot wrote and produces Arcane in house which includes the music with Netflix only acting as a distributor. And they dont like to copyright their stuff. So if there is a song you want to play or commentary you want to keep in you can turn the video portion off and Riot will never strike you for the music. They like their stuff being shared. Just dont play Imagine Dragons as the band owns that song and it will get struck by their copyright systems.

One of the best things about this show is that it fully embraces the "show don't tell" aspect of story telling. We don't get (much) exposition and when we do it is done diegetically. But most of it explored with the trust that the audience will understand the implied meanings. The extra benefit of this is that people can get different meanings from what they see and then dialog and discussion about the issues can happen.

​@@artxroyalty He's also the bullied one. I mean don't get me wrong, Vi and Claggor aren't awful to him, they're not mean people, but they're hard. There are a lot of small interactions and ways they completely dismiss him that show that what he's doing to Powder, he learned it in part from how Vi and Claggor treated him before Powder became old enough to join them and still kind of treats him to this day. He was the rugrat before her and his treatment of Powder is partly his desperate attempt at moving away from being the weak/unreliable/bullied one. The fact that Vi treats Powder differently from what she clearly has been treating Mylo when he was the runt of the group probably makes Mylo lash out even more at Powder. He's like that old guy who had to pay his student loans and complains when younger people get a better deal xD While being angry at Mylo is totally fair, this situation seems to be in part Vi's (and to a lesser extent Claggor's) fault. Of course the kids are hard because of their circumstances so like most things in this undercity, it's also Piltover's fault! That's right, even Mylo bullying Powder is Piltover's fault xD

Powder is a great character. I love the multiple ways her name can be interpreted. But also look at that adorable expression of anticipation in her eyes as she's waiting for her nail bomb to blow up at some kid's feet. Imagine if that bomb had worked. Also, after episode 4, re-watch the cold open, just saying. And any time from the end of E4 to the end of E6 there's a music video called Enemy that has extra footage enriching our perspective of the kids' lives but there's spoilers for E4. Arcane doesn't really do heroes and villains. The noblest and most despicable characters are more of support cast while everyone elso is not just morally gray but gray in their rightness in any given moment. But all their decisions feel almost inevitable in retrospect based on their personalities, motivations, and the situations they find themselves in. The woman who voices the older enforcer plays one of the main characters in Thw Expanse - a cyberpunk-influenced hard scifi space opera, because reality-inspire space physics is thrilling, awe-inspiring, and absolutely terrifying. Also, another show with a lot of gray characters that are among everyone's favorites. There's another VA later on in Arcane who plays Lucy in Fallout - another great show, btw. And another nice range of moral shadings.

To all your questions... yes and maybe but not gonna spoil Oh and abt Vander it is not really said in the show so think is ok to say it: You notice how he is the leader of this ppl in the undercity right? ok so the havoc on the begining was like a civil war or so and as a leader he ofc was in the center of it. What we saw was the end of the fight when the kids were looking for their parents (some of them d3ad) and there was Vander still fighting. Well he took the orphans as his so they dont go wandering the streets wich mean this bunch of kids are like siblings and yeah they all follow Vi cause she is the older one and also she has this charisma and strenght. It is tacit understanding to this ppl that she is gonna lead the undercity after Vander retires so they follow her wich is a huge burden to a teenage.

Dunno if the animation is *better* than spiderverse, but those are 100% the most beautiful 3D animations ever made and I don't think it's even particularly close. Like, I really loved Blue Eye Samurai, and I think it's beautiful, but it's not even remotely on the same level as the other two in that regard. I think it's a question of budget too, there must be tons of super talented animators that can do something that gorgeous, but they don't have the money to do it. What Spiderverse and Arcane have in common is an unreasonable amount of cash being poured into them. Arcane season 1 was basically RIOT writing a blank check and telling them to take as much time as necessary. They took 6 freaking years to make 9 episodes! They even scrapped and restarted because they didn't think the animation was on the level they wanted. And a reason we won't see much more, at least maybe until the tech has gotten better, is that I seriously doubt this is profitable. I don't think RIOT made any direct money on this. They got talked about, there was renewed conversation about LoL and Arcane took basically every animated show prize that year (and video game adaptation), but if we're talking balancing booksheets cold hard "expense vs income" calculations, there are indications that it cost much more than it earned despite being massively popular. "she's freaking gorgeous" Mel is the most beautiful animated character ever made in my opinion and that was not an easy achievement, especially with almost everyone being hot in this show alone. "I want to protect Powder at all cost" I agree but also... Famous last words! "Maybe you should talk to whoever had bombs in that apartment" (SPOILER FOR EPISODE 2) You now know how funny and appropriate that was. She actually did do exactly that earlier in the day. Most people think Grayson getting Jayce's case is unfair, but yeah, keeping bombs in a downtown apartment is *not* normal, you don't do that shit! It is pretty funny how well you predict the flow of the story overall xD I'll definitely be watching the rest of your reactions to this!

First off: great start to the reaction, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next episodes. The show was actually praised for well it handles micro-expressions. And that's all hand animated, no motion capturing involved. It may be a bit early for this but if it turns out you like the show (and I'm sure it will), there is a little five part documentary/making of about it called "Bridging the Rift", that explains a bit about how it was animated. As for your questions - I'll agree with what the others said - most of them will be answered in due time, so there's no point in spoiling you. 😉

As someone who used to play LoL, and loved Riot/Fortiche's cinematics and the lore of the world of Runeterra, I knew going in that Arcane was going to at least be decent. But within the first two minutes, with the music and visual storytelling and no dialogue at all, I knew this show was going to be good. Then episode 3 came around, and I knew Arcane wasn't just good, but great.

Hey there, welcome to the playground newcomer. First off, great reaction! Honestly you got it down, good cuts, good length and right amount of dialogue on your part without losing focus on the show itself and that's what we are here for, to see others enjoy the shows we love. I took a glance, and it is your first show here, best pick by far, not just because it is the best show in my opinion, but the community of League of Legends... scratch that, the lore community of League of legends is just awesome, so nice and welcoming to new fans about the stories of this world called Runeterra. I'm sure it will do wonders to your channel at the end of your journey with all the content out there for LOL, not just Arcane and all the future content close on the horizon, we the community would love for you to enjoy it. I like to share some info that will help you navigate, like you already might have been told you don't need to know anything about the game to keep up with this show, in fact the more blind you go into this series the better, season 2 is going out in November this year so you might even want to hold out on researching about the characters until then, the payoff will probably be worth it. Once your finish with season 1, cinematics and music videos are probably safe (I'm sure you're going to love it base on the videos on your channel), even though the whole story is going to change because Arcane was such a success we are getting a bit of a re-work on the lore, it is still super spoilery to check out character bio´s so I advise against it. No spoilers Addressing some of your questions, is Powder Jinx? I can say whit all honestly that she is not, things like are they related? Do they interact or affect each other? can't really say, without spoilers, actually there are a lot of blue hair characters in this world you will soon get to meet, but yeah like you said Powder must be protected at all costs ❤. Is this and origin story for Jinx? Actually, this is an origin story for a whole lot of characters! It is astonishing what the writers managed to pull off. Why the masks? You were also impressed by the worldbuilding because of this fact, so yeah this is not Earth, it has its own history so very different from ours but just not enough to alienate us from the characters. For this show they took the soft worldbuilding approach, there is thousands of years of history in this world, and the Mask and pollution is never fully addressed in the show, long story short, mining + chemical bombs = accident, most of the city on the poor side of the river Pilt began to sink, making them even more poor, less sunlight, no clean air, they have not evolve just gotten used to it. Sorry for the ramble, hope this info is helpful and if there is anything else you would like to know, feel free to ask, Il be extra careful not to spoil or reveal things that you're not ready for yet, by the time I post this you might even be finishing Act 1, which reminds me this show consist of 3 Acts each one was aired one week apart from each other, its good way to think about them, since they are like a movie length for each act. So I will be waiting for the next video, have a good one!

You are not going to be disappointed in the storytelling department, imagine this, they took 6 years just to create the first season, so they really took their time to get it right. Oh and the animation, there is nothing like it, its unique, Into the Spiderverse and Across the spiderverse are some of my fav of all time but Arcane is different, textures, shadows, and backgrounds are all hand painted not even drawn hand painted! And no mocap, all animation is done by keyframes as if it where a full 2D animation so the movements have more freedom and it doesn't have to be to real wich makes it "Look more real" if that makes sense. Don't worry about Jinx, you will meet her soon and she is going to leave you speechless, once you get her instruccion it's definitely going to be a roller coaster, an out of control, no breaks ride that's for sure. Definitely sticking around, already sub and 🔔so I will be seeing you peace!

Full disclosure I watched the first two and a half episodes on a side-monitor while doing work and hobby stuff on my pc, not fully paying attention to the show expecting an ok-ish animated series. It was at that half-point on the third episode I started to realize there was something a little more nuanced going on, stopped what I was doing, and started over full-screen and full attention. The first episode is typically a very introductory, light-weight, seemingly low-stakes episode; and I was rolling my eyes at the tropey villain. Part of me think's they did all of this on purpose to direct our expectations and break them. I regard this as one of the greatest animation series of all time, especially for such a short-length series.

Both Powder and Milo are insecure because they haven't yet fully defined a role in their social group (which seems to be related to an ability to contribute to the good of the whole). Powder, being the youngest of the group, gets Milo's insecurity projected onto her.
