Someone in the chat asked why the girl doesn't want to apologize and NL said 'because they're a teen' but the post states that the daughter does not want to bring it up to her friend because its embarrassing and awkward, so the girl has spent three months not even realizing she did anything wrong because mom decided to hold a grudge against a literal child instead of just saying, "Man that's a little rude" at the dinner table.
@Acc_Expired
@Acc_Expired Жыл бұрын
Id bet the friend knows it was a mistake, but feels way too awkward to bring it up themselves and would rather sweep it under the rug. The daughter also knows it was bad, but telling your friend to apologize to your mom is awkward and not cool. There are way more reasons for a child to not apologize than "I refuse to admit I did anything wrong". "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" is the title of a once popular song.

I get being a picky eater. My feel sorry for my relatives every time we go to someone's house to eat and I wish I liked eating some foods that I cant stand to even look at. I'd also understand if they had something like IBS and were cautious about stuff that upsets their stomach. However most of what I'm hearing from this post is "it's not what I prefer". Idk why she also says that she'll feel left out not eating right after she says that her husband suggested eating the dessert while there and getting some takeout later. I've learned how to pick out bacon and eat around certain things. I dont understand the struggle for just this one dinner?

Like 3 months ago, I proposed an idea for a skit to one of my friends. Really, they're just little hypotheticals for like "if we had a TV show, would this be funny?" The bit for this one was a character which wasn't aware that meals were made through the _process_ of "cooking." So, they don't understand conceptually that a salad is like a constructed thing, they think it just _comes_ like that, the same way that you just buy Spaghetti-O's and it's just known they're ready to eat right out the can. The joke was that they would hate a lot of foods because they never *prepared* anything before eating it. For instance they'd just take a box of Kraft macaroni and just eat the raw pasta and pour the cheese mix right into their mouth and wonder "why do they sell this? It sucks" and then gets their mind BLOWN when a friend reveals to them that's not how it's intended to live your life. Imagine my surprise when today I learn this character architype ACTUALLY EXISTS with the lady in the second post. Everything in the restaurant presumably *has to be **_made_* bespoke or at the very least CAN be, the salad only being one example of it being trivial to remove an ingredient from. She said she didn't want to burden the chefs but it's insane to me she has no issues instead putting that burden on someone she _actually_ *cares* about. It's so nonsensical and backwards. I _NEVER_ say this but he's actually too good for her because he's doing a service she isn't returning, which is trying to make each others lives *better.* Obfuscating information to the kids to prevent her from "looking bad" when it is the facts that she literally just _is_ "bad" in this situation? OH MY HEART *BLEEDS* FOR THIS MAN! I am becoming the _Jokaire._

Man, the post about the picky eater gives me flashbacks to my sister. She basically only eats chicken tenders and fries or chicken alfredo so my childhood was always trying to find a restaurant to please her. Even as an adult, she doesn't eat vegetables. I meant, shit, I don't eat pork for weird personal reasons and I'm allergic to shellfish but I can still eat at least like five dishes at almost any restaurant I go to. She's got anxiety issues and goes into a literal panic attack if her food is bad or burned. I'm convinced there's some kind of mental illness thing that has the side effect of being weird with food.

An interesting anecdote about a friend of mine, falling in the same category; since he was about 3 years old, his eating habits started to rapidly narrow. I think there was something about a traumatic experience then, but I don't remember that exact detail. Anyway, he only ate fries and Pizza Margherita for main courses for _over two decades._ Only sweets and snacks were exempt, which underlined what he himself knew to be true; that it was a kind of mental blockade preventing him from eating other food. Once he made up his mind to try to change, he ate something different maybe once in half a year - but that also only with apprehension. Then, he planned a vacation with other friends, to a foreign country, where he didn't want to limit everybody else's choice of restaurant, so he went to a hypnotiseur specializing in hypnotizing away eating disorders. After even a single session, he now cannot even really described as a picky eater - he's simply a run-of-the-mill vegetarian now. Still likes his Pizza Margherita though!

As someone who has autism and is thus picky as a necessity, the restaurant lady is crazy lmao. I mean, literally just don't order? "I don't want to inconvenience the staff" - not using a sauce doesn't really inconvenience them + you're inconveniencing your husband right now.
@punkrockllama
@punkrockllama Жыл бұрын
As someone who cooks: marinated in a sauce and sauced later are two different levels. If it was chicken with a bourbon glaze then it's not that much to just cook it without. If it's marinated then it's already been in the sauce for hours. So unless they happen to have some that haven't been marinated yet it's not really possible. I was more surprised that she couldn't even find a side/salad. Garden salads are definitely easier to modify.

Am I the asshole for pushing my mother in law into a well because of how NL pronounces "vase"? I'm a Vay-se guy, which I know makes me correct, but I'm wondering if maybe I was a little harsh, and should have simply pushed her down the stairs instead.

She lives out of state and we only see her every couple of years, but is it really too much to ask her to release the 20 injured rescue kittens she keeps in a pole barn (seperate from the house, but still) back into the wild for four days in December when I'm coming to visit so I don't risk the sniffles? She rescued them once, is rescuing them again too much to ask for a family member's comfort? I never asked for a lot.

If the custom stocking tradition is "on a baby's first christmas, we make them a stocking and hang it up as a decoration every year" then its totally fine to not include the 9 year old because the stockings are basically for babies. If the tradition is "Every year we make new stockings for every kid and everyone gets gifts in the stockings" then its insane to not include the step son.

Honestly though like, I don't get NL blowing up at the dad for that one when it's the grandma who's being a dick about it. He asked, she refused, what's he supposed to do disown his mother over a stocking? Man's trying to be a peacemaker and make sure the kid gets any Christmas time with the step family at all and the mother's decided to die on the stocking hill and sacrifice the whole holiday over it.

Question for someone who works at a restaurant: How much of a bother is it to exclude an ingredient from an order? Like peppered steak in salad for example. If making the dish like normal is a 0 on the bother scale and your wife refusing to celebrate your promotion with you is a 10, where would you rank making the dish minus the thing the lady doesn't like?

Second AITA is what happens when picky eaters aren't stamped out early. No dietary requirements (beyond vague 'it gives me gas'), no allergies, no textural issues as far as I can tell, clearly not vegetarian or vegan, and if any of those things _were_ a factor, she should have brought it up a long time ago. Go enjoy your chicken nuggets and ketchup three meals a day, I gue-oh wait you don't eat fried foods.

No, this is kind of a good lesson. When she gets a credit card or a credit line she really needs to understand what how awful it is to start being hit with payments, well she doesn't need to but you can end up living really miserably for a good year or 2 if you fuck up. That said, I have no idea why you wouldn't just modify it and say, something like 50$ off of every paycheck until you pay back 500$ or something.

26:00 The dad is so annoying. He’s treating his gf like a free nanny. That guy thinks providing an income means you’re entitled to so much, and has no clue what day to day parenting involves. Or he DOES know, so he tries to avoid it. It’s emotionally taxing too. He also attempted to sabotage her job opportunity, perhaps subconsciously, to keep her dependent on his income.

My opinion about apologies is, that you can ask for forgiveness by apologizing. And then the other can decide whether they forgive you or not. If you demand an apology that will magically resolve things, then you either will not forgive them anyways, or you've already forgiven them and just want to guilt trip them more and play some power games.
