AITA I Not Ordering Any Food So I Wouldn't Have To Split The Bill
-
In college, my close-knit group of friends often dealt with Susan and Greg's freeloading, as they ordered expensive items and claimed financial issues, leaving us to cover their costs. Fed up, I finally took a stand during a dinner by only ordering a beer and insisting we split the bill based on what we ordered. This caused a confrontation and led Dan, our mediator, to see the truth.
During a weekend getaway, Susan and Greg added premium items to our grocery cart without consulting us. When it came time to split the bill, I insisted they cover their extras, and the group backed me up. Over time, Susan and Greg became more mindful, and our group focused more on quality time, strengthening our friendships.

That situation happens a lot in families also . A couple was ALWAYS expected to split the bill 4 ways , although one couple had 4 kids eating. One brother put a stop to it . 😅

I'll literally NEVER agree to split the bill evenly, even if I'd benefit from it. Too much resentment.

@@matts1166 I went out with a group of people once. When we got to the restaurant and the waitress came over, they said, "One bill" and started ordering big stuff. When the waitress got to me I said, "Separate bill for me." and ordered modestly. The others were displeased. As I said at the beginning, I went out with them once.

Susan & Greg need to stay at home. Nothing petty about avoiding being dragged into contributing to paying for other folks' meals.

Why do people ALLOW others to BLATANTLY take advantage; why do people GIVE THEIR ADVANTAGE AWAY...???!?

My daughter had to stop giving random money to her friend . B/c the friend never paid her back . Folks who borrow money ALWAYS get upset when asked to return someone else 's money . Rule of thump : Don't LEND folks money . Either GIVE it to them & don't expect it back or tell them " no ." 😢 Especially if you have money & they know it . Them , " You have a lot of money , YOU don't need it ." Then they put on Facebook that YOU are stingy & heartless . Because they have 4 kids & you don't have any .😓 # skip the hassle & drama & lost friendships 😑

ESH, until OP put a stop to the stupidity. Susan & Greg for obvious reasons, the rest of you for allowing this to happen more than once. But OP is NTA for standing up to the users finally.

I never thought I would watch all of this video. It was a good audio with a nice video to watch while listening. I usually go and pay my bit at the till while going to wash my hands.

The audacity to go dutch on separate lunch so absurd and embarrassing.

Interesting. I was looking at your comment and thought, "Wait. Going dutch means to pay your own way." So I googled it. Turns out BOTH meanings were listed. 1) Splitting the bill, 2) paying your own way. I was surprised.

They were willing to use their " friends" as much as they let them . But , they didn't want to lose their friend group .They realized that their GIG WAS UP . That's why they didn't make a big stink about paying separately. # they had a good run as # moochers 😢

Ok. So I enjoyed the story (I have had a very similar experience) but I am also interested in the background video. Would have liked to have a few of the recipes to try at home.
