School: To be honest the first thing that went thru my mind was what if the child is being ignored and that's why he's screaming? I volunteered in a special needs classroom when I was in Jr High in the late 90's and it was quite interesting to help the kids. My favorite child out of all of them was Katrina she didn't talk and was stuck in a wheel chair but she loved chasing me around in her chair it made her so happy and it was good exercise for her arms. The ladies even told me she would sit by the window and wait for me until I showed up. The point I'm trying to make is whenever the kids had a problem they were taken care of right away to calm them down and the fact that she said this kid would scream for hours makes we wonder if he or she is not being cared for. If I was you I would stop by and just make sure everything is alright Say your the neighbor and you were just checking in. I agree about volunteering maybe the kid just needs someone to play with like Katrina needed me.

That guy is a former servicemember but he is not a veteran. My dad is in the same boat. Whenever I told him happy veteran's day, he was always very clear that though he served, he never went to war and wasn't a veteran. I'm glad the dude is trying to stick up for real veterans, trying to portray himself to be part of that group is a form of stolen valor. NTA. Also the wedding thing is bs. Get over it. I was a bridesmaid (not maid of honor which is totally fine) in my sister's wedding and I walked with another bridesmaid's boyfriend, and the gf walked with another bridesmaid's bf. There was a reason my sister wanted it that way. The bridesmaids absolutely have jobs during the entire wedding. They don't just stand there. Get over yourself. The bride didn't orchestrate her entire wedding to spite your wife. You're not that important. YTA.
@tonyblake75694 жыл бұрын
I get why your dad would feel that way but if you look up what is a veteran and check put VA.org it lists the actual definition is "Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.” This definition explains that any individual that completed a service for any branch of armed forces classifies as a veteran as long as they were not dishonorably discharged." So according to the VA then yes both your dad and this guy are veterans. Don't get me wrong this guy is kind of a douche, making it seem like he had it way worse then he actually did, but yes he is still a veteran. Also not that it matters but I'm also a veteran. 4 years usmc, infantry. Went to Afghanistan, again not that it matters.

@@tonyblake7569 thank you for your service!! And thank you for teaching us the official VA definition of a veteran. Forgive me for my ignorance, if someone gets a medical discharge before their term of service is up, does that mean they completed or didn't complete a service?
@tonyblake75694 жыл бұрын
@@UzumakiDonnoHinata not exactly sure, personally I think it does. Not the same but hypothetically if someone went to combat and lost a leg they would probably be given a medical discharge. In that case I 100% believe they completed their service. Yes this is a very different situation so I can only go off the definition I saw, and since it wasn't dishonorable then yes. Although, and I could be wrong, there's another possibility. I knew a guy that was kicked out because "the voices in his head told him to kill people", don't believe that but he was 17 and his parents signed him up it wasn't his choice so I don't blame him for finding a way out. Anyways since he was in a very little time I believe he was basically separated, like they just let him out of his contract so he didn't have to serve it but he couldn't actually say he was in. It's entirely possible here they voided his contract so he officially wasn't in, not positive since I got out in 2005 so been a long time but from what I remember that was an option if you were in less then a year. Also thank you for your dad's service. I know you say he doesn't view himself as a veteran and I wouldn't argue with him about his beliefs because I know some people feel that way, I know some people believe unless they saw combat it didn't count but it's still something that they served.

That wedding story........I'm gonna be the odd one out and I know people are gonna hate me for it but I'm a very close NAH/ESH as opposed to NTA or YTA The bride and sister don't get along, so it makes sense not to include her in the wedding, but then to have OP walking in with another woman because one of the bestmen gets to walk in with his wife sets a bit of an odd tone. OP and Sister have some assholery here because it's not their day. if he doesn't like it he should just get out while he can but consider the friendship never the same again. but then I don't see why Bride can't, for one day, give her a chance to not cause issue and give her jobs to do so that she can walk with her partner instead of this. on the other hand, I don't see why OP and Sister aren't giving them the understanding that it's the happy couple's day, not theirs. they don't get to dictate what happens and if they have issue, TOO BAD. To me it's less about the wedding itself and the dynamic between them. and it does feel like Bride is trying to spite Sister by pairing OP up with someone else and moving around one of the best men to be with his partner.

During the majority of my lifetime, my father never claimed he was a Vietnam Veteran as he wasn't in the line of duty . However, seeing men come back from the front-lines all mangled up physically or psychologically or both, really effected him and made him realize how lucky he was to serve where he did. Anyway when my father retired, he got a special stipend for his Vietnam Conflict Era Serivce. A family friend's partner stated that it was stolen valor. My father said it wasn't stolen valor because he did serve during the War and there was always the potential that he'd be needed in the field of battle. I was quite angry at the family friend because she didn't ask her partner to drop the subject. My father got upset because this time period of his medical career he almost never talked about, so he walked off. I yelled at the partner to check it out on the internet and not to badger my father anymore. He said that his brother was a real veteran. I agree that his brother had seen things far worse than my father and this is partly why my father never claims his war service despite the fact he technically was a Vietnam Vet. But my father did have to see the real effects of war that the average non-combat veteran did not face.

On the Vet story, I agree with OP mostly. I am a veteran myself and they wouldn't give someone a medical discharge when person got hurt at home. It takes a long time to receive a medical discharge. It's started at the lowest level of care and then goes up. That easily takes a year for most injuries to raise an eyebrow. What probably truly happened is that he was discharged due to being unable to adapt to army life or not passing his physical training. But the vet is correct that he doesn't have any access to the VA or benefits from injuring his ankle at home. Military will only compensate if you're injured on the job. Think of it in a way like Workman's Comp. BUT regardless, he is still considered a *veteran. Ask for his DD-214. That'll explain a lot. *Edit-I say he's considered a veteran since my drill sgts said that. And it's hard for me to see others that I was in basic who didn't pass as anything else. BUT for those who are chaptered for not being able to adapt to the service, I consider them to NOT be a Veteran.

I think she's still mad I got her removed from a soccer game in HS because the coach chose me over her when she decided to publicly bully another girl on the team and I said I wouldn't play if she was. Have to say something about story 2. Living in a country where every eligible male from ages 18 to 30 are forced to serve in the army for maximum a year or do the one year civilian service. I spent three months serving in the army but left voluntarily for medical reasons. By the cousin's standards that would make the entire male population of Finland veterans just for doing their mandatory service. So yeah, good for the OP for calling the cousin's bullshit. It takes battle experience in defending your own country to be a veteran.

second story .... A veteran is a former member of the Armed Forces of the United States (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard) who served on active duty and was discharged under conditions, which were other than dishonorable. or A veteran is a person who had long service or experience in a particular occupation or field. A military veteran is a person who has served and is no longer serving in a military. Military veterans that have served directly in combat in a war are further defined as war veterans. he has neither long service nor active duty service.

She deserves to be publicly embarrassed; she felt the need to try and publicly shame you and then when she was wrong and it was flipped on her now she's butthurt. Colon cancer leading killing cancer in men right now in the United States. It's like third or fourth killer as far as cancer goes for women. The Second Story is called Stolen Valor and is a federal crime. As an actual combat veteran this pisses me off. He got discharged basically under failure to adapt because he was injured and he never even made it to his first Duty station. The government does not consider him a veteran in any way shape or form hence why he does not have access to any Healthcare or services. He is a failure to adapt he never became a soldier. It sounds cold but it's part of what being a soldier's about; is being able to take harsh truths of the world and fixing what we can and not letting but we can't get in the way. To be 100% clear he is committing stolen Valor which is yet again a federal crime which you could be held complicit for if you don't report him in somebody else finds out that you're covering for him.

Story #1 OP is NTA... My father had NonHodgekins Lymphoma and although his hair thinned, he did not lose all his hair. He died with a full head of hair 7 years later from the cancer. Gauging whether a person has cancer on whether they have hair loss is stupid. That chick should get bent. #2. OP is NTA... I spent 1 full training day in the Navy before getting injured and sent home. Since I was in during the time of war I can claim veteran status. I don't bc in my opinion, if one hasn't spent time in combat... You have NOT experienced what our men and women have over seas being shot at on a daily basis. Not to downplay anyone who has served and never seen action. But to me Veteran status is something that is reserved for those who have seen action. #3 OP is NTA as his wife has been left out and would be forced to walk down the aisle with another woman who is not his wife. Its a matter respect towards his wife. The fiancee is the A$$hole. My ex husband did that to me 2 times, once at his cousins wedding and then at his best friend's wedding that I didn't attend and consequently he cheated on me with another woman at that time. The whole time at his cousin's wedding his time was taken up and he didn't even bother to dance with me even once. I knew no one at the wedding except for his parents who also ignored me. Now, his attitude towards the bride justifiable or not, is arseholish. He should just pass on being in the wedding. #4 OP is the A$$hole. Close the window and get a fan. Some kids will be loud, especially kids with autism when over stimulated.

NTA the former soldier who claimed to be a veteran IS NOT A VETERAN! He was discharged for an injury NOT related to his service before his enlistment period was finished. He DID NOT serve in a combat zone. He was in for less than a year and DOES NOT QUALIFY for veterans services with the VA or other government agencies. If he had served an entire enlistment period or had been in combat I would agree with veterans status for him, but as he never served in a combat zone and did not complete his enlistment he DOES NOT qualify as a veteran and IS NOT A VETERAN. I am not a veteran even though I come from a military family. My brother, father, both grandfathers, and 7 uncles have served in various branches of the military. My brother is an Iraq war vet, my father and uncles served in either Korea or Vietnam and one grandfather served in World War 1 and both grandfathers served in World War 2. Between my relatives there are 2 Silvers Stars, 5 Bronze Stars, and 6 Purple Hearts. I also have a hand written condolence letter from General Douglas McArthur that accompanied my Uncle Bobby's body back form Korea after he was killed in combat. I could not serve myself as i have severe asthma and a heart condition that prevents service. I have 1 uncle who retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years od service and 2 others have retired from the Army and Marine Corps respectively.

That last story, I get it completely...but there's nothing he can do. I'm sensitive to sudden loud noises so I don't think I could cope with that. The type of noise and the consistency is not something you'd expect from living near a school (I grew up with one on each side of my house) but this kid has severe difficulties and they can't just force him to stop or keep him inside without harming the work they're doing with him. I don't think OP is an arsehole, as he's coming for advice because he recognises all of this. He clearly sees his frustration is offset by that kid's educational needs. He will definitely not be the only neighbour feeling the same way but they've all probably come to the conclusion that there's no way to solve the problem without negatively impacting the kid.

Put their U.S Army and nametapes on their dogs harness (not a service dog) 3. Use their dress blue photo as their profile pic (taken before training starts) 4. Take pictures that a photographer took throughout training and post them weeks/months apart as if they're still serving and they were taken recently It baffles me how much I've seen it. I wonder what he could have done for them to kick him out. I only know he was kicked out because his sister told me. He usually likes to talk about being proud being in the military that he served, but due to a car accident he had to get jaw surgery and is now considered disabled so he can't go back even though he wants to. Which sounded like such a huge lie, but when hearing him talk he always sounds so convincing. He never was deployed anywhere he never went to war. He was in training and I think that's when he got kicked out. Or maybe he got kicked out when he passed his training idk. I just know he likes to mention he was in the army. If we are out somewhere and we are afraid of getting lost he just says hey don't worry I was in the army so I know everything about survival. Or he just says he knows how to survive. He likes to say he knows when to actually worry so if we see him get worried then yeah it is real. 😐 he can be annoying, but oh well he is family.

No. Story 2: NTA. I had a former friend try to claim more than what he is. He broke his pelvis at basic and went home uploading pics of his USMC tattoos and motorcycles talking about vet issues. Dude spent less than a year as a marine, but tries to push this narrative that he did what others won't while "forgetting" to state he got broke on duty and the only thing he served was a mop and bucket. If it's about legality of Veteran status, you must serve for three years total to be legally identified as a Veteran. Exception being killed on the line of duty or being medically discharged. That's why so many retirees argue whose actually retired (20 year minimum of service) versus those who are medically retired (severely injured to the point you can't serve but all/most injuries are on the line of duty). Lil' bro isn't a vet, period. Again, NTA.
