By calling a tie, you actually declared Aiwa the winner since it is half the cost.

In fact, making your comment ...you "actually declared" yourself an poor idiot...since to some people cost is not an issue...not to mention the look or that the long term durability was not evaluated in this test and the Marshall may out last the cheap Aiwa... but I do agree that buying the cheapest possible unit is the top priority to some people....In closing...what made you think that anyone would care what you may or may not think?

At the begining of the test i think A is for Aiwa (because A iwa) ,but at the end there is the response A=Marshall and B=Aiwa.I feel good ,when listening the sound i prefer the B (and i panic because i have just buy the Aiwa a few hours before and i think i made a mistake) ,BUT my buying is the B sound (Aiwa).So feel good.Sorry for my English.Thanks

I bought both and ended up returning the Marshall and keeping the AIWA. The Marshall had brighter highs AIWA punchier base both overall both excellent sounding. I chose the AIWA because it runs off a rechargeable battery that lasts for hours on one charge. Not having to plug into an outlet is HUGE. The AIWA also allows me to plug in an iPhone or iPad to charge off its battery - I got the carry case with it and it's easy to zip up, throw in the car and talk with - not the case at all with the Marshall. Also, during a party, the Marshall kept stopping playing for some reason 0 we'd have to go over and restart the song - this never happened with the AIWA

After 3 more days of comparing, I have changed my mind. It is no longer a tie. The Aiwa Exos 9 wins! I finally decided, although the Woburn sounds quite nice in the higs and mids, the lows are just too BOOMY/THUDDY and not 'punchy' enough. I did a test where I had the Aiwa in one room and the Marshall in another. Both were playing the same song at the same level. I would stay in one room for 30 seconds, close the door behind me and enter the other one with the different speaker. I did that back and forth many times with many songs. Although the Aiwa Exos 9 sounds a bit thin, plasticy, & slightly compressed, it does put a nice sheen on the music. It's also more spacious and bigger sounding and the kick drums/lows never get overbearing. The mix is always under control and, OVERALL, I feel it has the better sound for all genres of music. So, the Aiwa Exos 9 will remain my default speaker and I will keep looking for other bluetooth speakers to beat it.

I do not agree. the speaker A sounds more like the sound was originally made. The B have a lot of gain in some treble frequencies and the mid bass is attenuated. That's why seems to sound better, but is just an illusion. the important is the speaker be faithful to the original song, how it was made, so then you can eq as you prefer. OBS - I listened to this video in a Exos 9! so the sound was been eq twice (by you and by me), so probably that's why was very clear to me the eq of Aiwa is not so much "fidelity" to the original .

too much "synthetic" mids as well on the AIWA. Marshall just handles all the frequencies better. Marshall has the analog sound down pat - it's what our ears are designed hear - sin wave - not digital wave

+Randy that's exactly what I heard.. Marshal 100% more natural sound.. Especially when Piano is playing on Aiwa it sound like electric Piano :) On the other hand It's $435 vs $300.. 10 seconds and I new that A was a Marshall. And I don't see any pro musicians playing on any Aiwa equipment either compare to Marshall.. Just my 2c..

I recently bought a woburn. same as my five years old marshall major headphone, the sound of woburn is so TIGHT. i kinda hate it. and i want it to be wide open but no way... it's marshall and this is how it's designed. but i still prefer woburn over others because it's perfect in the mids. pay attention to the second piece of your demo 4:40 the marshall sounds like a real tube overdriven guitar while the aiwa sounds like a synthesizer.

if i can help someone a little this with this comment , i tryed both too , if you are the kind of person who stick to hard rock, and metal mainly i recomend the marshall , you can clearly hear their guitar amplifier heritage when it comes to tracks heavily based on guitar , if you like to hear many different types of music , your choice should be the aiwa , it has an overall better sound quality , not much better , but better , and the EQ works pretty well , if you want to throw a party , the the aiwa is your choice hands down , this is the place where the aiwa steps up , it gets louder, you can feel how it is moving more air than the marshall. more bang for the buck , aiwa asthetics: this is a personal thing but i´ll say the marshall is a more beautiful speaker, with all the vintage styiling it has into it , and the fact that it says marshall on it, i dont know there is something special about it, the aiwa is more kind of plastic . - my personal veredict for those looking for an advice : if you are like me , and like to hear all types of music , specially electronic music , trap, and hip hop, genres that have a boomy bass on them, and if you want something that can get really loud, dont really care about the materials quality or the asthetics, as long as you get loud sound with good quallity , the aiwa is your choice. if you want a speaker where you can hear your rock, and your metal, and all the subgenres from both , in your home , that can deliver very rich guitar sounds , and respect the low ends from even the hardest metal distortions , while also having a speaker that serves as well as a nice piece of decoration for your house or your flat, then the marshall is your choice , the price difference is not that big, so if you are really heavily focused on rock and metal, you are really making a better choice with the marshall, if you like to hear many different types of music, and throw some parties , the the aiwa is your better choice

Thanks for the detailed comment Richi. I listen to all kinds of music but rock the majority of the time. Particularly classic rock. I've had a few bluetooth speakers but yet to find one that sounds good cranking up some Led Zeppelin. Maybe the Marshall would be the choice. Or are there other speakers (in this general price range) you'd recommend over either of these?

The Marshall’s bass lacked the kick and punch. It was too boomy and had a bad resonate frequency. It lacked clarity but managed to score a bit better in the treble range. The Aiwa on the other hand had quick and punchy bass which is a requirement for rock music. It also pumped out much better clarity. You can hear details in the Aiwa that the Marshall just didn’t have. The treble between the two were too similar to tell the difference especially with KZbin’s compressed audio. Otherwise, both are decent speakers. I’m just a picky audiophile who can’t stand the flaws in sound reproduction.

I second that. I just bought the Woburn and almost immediately regretted it. Its sound gets distorted if I pump it above mid range.

you never leave the EQ flat on a setup, you use the EQ to adjust to the room's acoustics to get a flat response thats why the EQ is there in the first place. Having a flat EQ setting doesnt mean its a flat frequency response, you use the EQ to achieve a flat response. Its not a proper review unless you actually use the EQ on both speakers to adjust properly to your room acoustics to get the flattest frequency response out of both.
@DarkStoneCastle
@DarkStoneCastle 6 жыл бұрын
Never say never. When dealing with a small to medium sized carpeted bedroom and listening at a medium volume you should get a fairly flat response. EQ is more for people that like to mess with stuff.

Aiwa is better, crispier but you have to hear it live to know which one have a better bass strength. I have never heard Aiwa live but I tried the Woburn. Woburn bass is alright but nowhere near comparison to Bose Soundtouch 20 (also cheaper). In term of design and look Woburn definitely looks better than Aiwa Exo9

I'm not sure how you would decide what EQ status to choose for each to compare. I think that 12 o'clock on the Marshall vs. flat on the Exos-9 might provide an advantage for the Marshall. I guessed that B was the Exos-9 very early in the comparison. I'll have to say that while I prefer the Exos-9, I think that being able to tweak 5 bands of EQ is the single most important feature. I think people are hesitant to make extreme changes to the EQ, and AFAIC that's the way to get the speaker to do what you want it to do. I bought my second Exos-9 about 18 months after the first, because I was craving the wide stereo field that I knew I'd be able to get by linking the two using the provided functionality. And boy was I right. I really don't know what capability of that sort might exist for the Marshall, but I can't imagine a better listening experience from two portable speakers in this price range than two linked Exos-9's. Also, I must praise the quality of AIWA support. When I first received the second speaker, I noticed that the balance wasn't quite right. I called AIWA, and they immediately replaced the older one completely free of charge! After 18 months! So if you get one (or two), don't throw away the boxes for a couple of years.

Laine Lee wow now that’s good customer service!!! This has tipped me over the waiting edge to go ahead and buy the aiwa, that is super impressive to hear. The other thing regarding eq is we ALL hear a little differently. Having easy eq options I think is essential even though I understand the preference for “flat”. With all the details of speaker design factored in can you REALLY expect perfectly flat on the “flat” setting when there are so many variables including your own ear quirks?! Anyway, seems Aiwa u can’t go wrong thanks for sharing your story.

From the blind test in this video I preferred the Aiwa. I bought it and returned it because the bass was muddy and hollow like you said. I thought the highs sounded cheap and cut off. In person, I listened to the Marshall stanmore and preferred it from what I remember of the Aiwa. I didn't care for the Aiwa but I did enjoy the stanmore. I'd have to keep them both but I didn't think the aiwa was worth the money. I got the Samsung r3 and I like it for $70 but it's muffled but not bad and 360 sound is a nice extra.

I went through and for each song at the various mic locations checked which one sounded better to me. Like he says in the video, but later takes back in the comments section, it was pretty much a tie. A lot of "Draws" written on my page in front of me actually, haha. Even the ones that I decisively put a check mark for the difference was minimal at best. IMO you can't go wrong with either. I mean it's not like you're going to have both in your house to constantly compare them to each other. Whichever one you pick you'll likely be happy as hell with. THAT said. With all the glowing reviews the Exos-9 has received on youtube (I seriously don't think there is a bad one, or even nasty knocks on it) I was kind of shocked how similar these two products sounded. On my checklist the one that narrowly had more checks in its column was....... MARSHALL?!?! I was FLOORED when he put up which speaker was A and B. Again though, it was insanely tight. And like he said in the video I thought it rather noticeable how much better the Aiwa was than Marshall on the more classical tunes. That was the only track really that had a clear cut decisive "winner" in my book..... easily the easiest checkmark I gave out, haha. While Marshall got the most checks from me I think it is worth noting that when he put the mic off Axis Aiwa actually beat out the Marshall, Whereas Marshall won every other microphone placement round usually by only 1-2 checkmarks. I think that is worth noting because unless you listen to music in a motionless spot right in front of the speaker you might want that better sound from pretty much any location in respect to the speaker. Again..... You can't go wrong with either IMO. THAT said..... both are rated at 200W I believe. Not sure what the other specs are on each, but they are pretty identical I would imagine. So I think it is worth noting that the deciding factor may come down to the all important price tag. Looking on Amazon AND Best Buy the Woburn from Marshall looks like it's going to set you back $430. The Aiwa..... $300? With it being such a tight race sound quality-wise I think I'd say if you're unsure what to get - I'd go with Aiwa. I mean you heard it yourself, it sounds top notch. EVERY youtuber who reviews electronics has pretty much said that the Exos is quite possibly the best speaker on the market ESPECIALLY when you compare the contenders and their price tags. If there is a speaker that sounds as good if not a hair better than the Aiwa, it seems it usually costs about $100-200, if not more, more than the Exos 9. I mean I personally am going to probably go get an Aiwa myself, but I'll have to wait. They are "sold out" at Best Buy. The other day I checked their website and said you needed to pre-order one. And just today I checked again on Amazon (sold out/out of stock there as well previously)..... it looks like they have them again...... but it will take about 2-3 weeks for delivery. I will be traveling for work then so I'm going to have to wait until November to get mine....... assuming they don't run out by then again. Remember Aiwa really is "Aiwa" nowadays, with sarcastic quotation fingers when you say it. This isn't the old cheap chinese company of yesteryear. A Chicago based company just bought the rights to the name (in 2015) and rebranded their company with the Aiwa tag. I believe they used to be called Hale Devices Inc........ I can see why they wanted a name change, haha. The Exos 6 was their first product released. If this is what to expect from the new Chicago-based Aiwa...... game changer IMO.

The marshall is just louder from the bass to mids. I think the treble is there and you can adjust it which is probably a good idea because the mids and bass seem to overpower the high notes so it sounds better for low and mid range, unless you play with the bass and treble.

in all whatever - Device, there is one thing happening: to me it seems to happen, americans are brainwise into more Bass. europeans tend to higher frequencies. I lived a few years in the US and canada. being european, I brought this sound back to europe / had klipsch, altec, jbl / always to 'unsharp'. macintosh-tubes and amcron ic/dc 300. transrotor/sme/decca london handselected. and about a few thousend lp's. it took a long time to find out, that my soul was searching for different sound. so there are a few european brands, nobody knows, who give more hi's and a more precise sounding. and it's like you take away a curtain, listeningto this. relieve for the brains. and all asian stuff, to me has less or no 'soul'. brillant neutrality, but no 'feelin'. nice video. you are a real searcher. thanks marshall tipical US, aiwa asian question of taste, not of quality. maybe off topic. but I had a few record-hifi-stores. for quite awhile

Maybe you should test both of them equally in the open field. Btw, Woburn tend to have a bit higher mid high freq. So it is unbalance in my ear. Unbalance = trash sound = trash experience = ruined life Hollow sounded Marshall is a coloration, a boxy sounded aiwa also a coloration. Hollow, both of them. But, in the end... balance matters most. Good work, thanks for making this comparison. I paused the video at 15:00 before the reveal to post this comment so that I can give a totally unbiased opinion. I've listened to this on my portable Bose colour link and I could definitely hear some differences across the range of samples. Speaker A: richer and smoother, deeper bass Speaker B: more range but a bit more harsh Now to watch the rest and see if it proves me a liar :) Not much in it though, so for me I'll buy the Marshall since it's much sexier. Aslo, I believe the Marshall has built in Chromecast Audio support so I can set up multiroom and also use more than 1 in a room.

Both are great but if you get the marshall set up with the proper treble/bass for your taste its incredible slight slight edge to the marshall especially since I found my woburn on sale for only $300

I chose A very tile better sounding snares bass drums B was to plastic sounding to me B JD a preset EQ and compressor on it where most of the songs sounded the same taking away from the original mixes ie steely dan pink Floyd or led zep would sound like speaker B rather than steely dan pink floyd or les zep

Marshall for sure. Having said that, with the $450 asking price go buy the Elac 6 speakers and a 100 watt per channel stereo amp and have enough left over for a 4.0 BT receiver and a six pack of craft beer!!!! You will be at audiophile levels ;)

Unfortunately I have had no experience with wi-fi speakers yet. I'm guessing the wi-fi ones just give you more range but the sound quality is gonna come down to the speaker itself, not whether it's bluetooth or wifi.

Marshall sounded better on almost all the tracks. Too bad, my heart was set on the Awia. Im assuming the EQ was flat with the Awia so maybe some tweaking can match the Marshall. Only on the guitar did i think the Awia sounded better.

@DarkStoneCastle 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the EQ was flat on the Aiwa. No amount of tweaking will make it sound like the Marshall. They just sound different. Just a matter of what you like.

I've been looking at the Sonos Play 5 because I heard it at bestbuy, I am also considering these 2 however I have no way to hear them in person. What I loved about the play 5 is how full and rich it sounded, the bass sounded like real bass and it bestbuy while playing with things like the bose soundtouch 30 and then switching directly to the play 5 it was no comparison, it was as of that play 5 could fill up the bestbuy with sound. What I'm wondering is how these compare? I am struggling because I cant bring myself to pay so much for something I haven't heard in person, amd I like my audio a certain way, definitely more bass heavy but also rich, full, and at the same time crisp, clean and just quality sounding. The type of audio that makes you feel some type of way..... if that makes sense. Ever sense I heard the play 5 I was in love with it, but want to see what better options may be out there

Speakers I've heard from Sonus before all had that DEEP bass thing going on. If you like that DEEP bass, I'd get the Sonus. The two in this review will not give you that same type of bass.

God I love your reviews! About me - bass head with a love for treble. I threw my Bose in favour of V MODA bluetooth headphones (just setting the tone) :) I love Marshall Woburn sound so much but am still conflicted on whether to pick it for a relatively smaller apartment with a big hall or shall I pick an AVR from denon or marantz. purpose mainly would be - home indoor use and with TV for films and tv series but mostly audio songs What do you think I should do? Thanks a lot for the channel. Love from India R

Never heard a Denon or Marantz in person so I can't comment on that. I personally like the Aiwa Exos 9 better than the Marshall Woburn. (See my other review)

Denon and Marantz sound very similar in surround sound units , i have owned both and they are both owned by the same parent company D&M holdings. Denon seems to focus more on surround systems, and Marantz still has Stereo units and multi channel power amps, including surround sound units around for them old school folks . but both really great units/brands. Btw. The marshall sounded best , the Aiwa sounded Tinny on a lot of songs and lacked the mids in the full spectrum. Most young folks don't understand audiophile quality sound yet hence their ears are not fully developed. I listened with speakers with way greater frequency response than both of those 2 devices. so the only thing that could distort the sound quality would be the mic recording the video/sound and room size (different resonance and reverberation in room size). Aiwa is still great too though mind you, but i did notice the difference.

Both speakers sound identical to my speaker on my LG zone 4 phone I'm listening to your video with. I wouldn't want either one. How can they charge so much money when I have the same sound quality on my $60 smartphone? Craziness! Disclaimer : The comment above was posted by a smart ass, but it was fact based because any sound test is impossible to do unless your physically there.

I literally just tested my Woburn after 16 + months of use side by side risk the exos 9. Hands down not 200 watts and Marshall at least doesn't lie about their nominal power. They both sound decent but there's no comparison when side by side listening to them together and then shutting one off and playing the other

Just tried both side by side and spread apart and I didn't even have to turn the Marshall up to five and it filled the room with such clarity and I believe it hits more genres than just rock! This whole new Aiwa Kick is overrated and I'm sending my back tomorrow and I'm going to get the Marshall Woburn 2 baby... I have an Android so I could still run them together turn or I will find a way haha. My Harman kardon onyx 3 unpluged. Sounded as loud and almost as detailed as the exos 9 and definitely punchier but slightly lacking on the low end. The exos 9 basically just gets a little bit low. They sleep near thirty Hertz even though rated at 40. The first Marshall Woburn has basically half the power and it blows away the exos 9 at 4 was a few tweaks song post to try to compete. Not even close in my opinion scared I'm not an audiophile but I'm definitely a music lover and have at least 15 to 20 high-end Bluetooth devices. Well best bang for your buck in my opinion Bluetooth devices. SQL and SPL.. (WOBURN WINS!) THAT'S HEARING IT LIVE SIDE BY SIDE WITH FIVE FRIENDS THAT PLAY LOVE AND AND APPRECIATE GOOD MUSIC AND VOCALS. BLIND TEST AS WELL.

maybe on phone speaker, but even with KZbin compression and loss of quality through the microphone you CAN make a difference between speakers with quality headphones. it also helps if the man doing the recording uses binaural microphones ... maybe your phone speaker cant differentiate, but id say my Sennheiser HD660s powered by the Aune X1s amp can :)

No EQ settings at all, even on your music pleer? Then what gadget and music player do you use? I'm asking, because Aiwa sounds incredible in your video. But when I use it, it sounds flat. I used IPhone 7 plus and KaiserTone music pleer.

No EQ at all on anything. Perhaps its the mic/recorder I used that's making it sounds so good. (Tascam DR-07mk2) But to me, in person, it sounds pretty much just like the mic picks it up.

I have the Aiwa and a Beolit 15. The Beolit is for quiet listening. But it can play lower bass because it reaches down to 37 Hz. The Aiwa is for loud listening. For loud low bass, I'm going to have to make my own speaker as no one seems to make anything like that (8 to 10" subwoofer in a very large ported enclosure). I might even power it with the Aiwa's built-in amp.
