Escaping the Texas heat in LA | Aja Dang

After two months of struggling with our new home, we decided we needed a break. Brian flew in from Korea, I left the dogs in Houston and we had a couple days to do some of our favorite LA things. We landed in LA during our busiest Peerspace week since we launched, but that gave us time to relax and regroup before going back to Houston.
I know that homeownership is "the American dream" but renting ain't that bad y'all. For just a few days, I didn't worry about anything breaking or needing money to fix the ac unit/roof/patio/plumbing. I am very grateful for our home but being worry-free in LA felt really nice.

As someone who left beautiful sunny San Diego to Dallas TX (I bought a house and moved when I was 22, i’m almost 24 now) I definitely relate to your entire journey. Moving into your first home, all of the renovations that needed to be done, the stress of a completely new environment, the crappy weather etc. In my case, I definitely have gotten more comfortable in TX over time. I fixed up things that needed to be fixed, decorated it the way I wanted to, and it really has become a space I can actually call home. I’m planning on saving up to renovate the bathrooms and make them look exactly the way I want to. Home ownership can be super overwhelming at first (especially in a completely new state) but it is liberating. Plus, I can always go back to Cali whenever I want with the money I’m able to save/invest. It also makes me appreciate it that much more when I visit CA because I def took it for granted living there my entire life! I hope that in time Houston (and your house) will become that space for you that you can call home. xoxo

Almost one year into my renovations, so I understand how stressful it is. Houston summers are grueling so it doesn’t make tasks any easier. You’ll learn things as you go. Have fun painting cabinets! They totally transform a kitchen.

Moving is always difficult. It takes out of your body, it's a lot of stress, and it's always a struggle as you find yourself in a new environment. Of course you look happier in LA... youre surrounded by your people and the city you have lived in for a while. Houston will become that. In time, you will have your people, know yhe streets and crazy roads. I'm a Houston native but have moved several times in my life... last time was back to Houston from San Diego to by our first home. Missing the weather in SD will be a constant, but I love the freedom we have with our disposable income in Texas. You got this!

We're having a heatwave in Greece right now. Generally Greece is sunny but not too hot. I can't stand this anymore, 3 weeks now, the A/C is on all day long.

I love following you guys through your home buying and I feel so invested in what your new kitchen cabinets are going to look like! we're currently month to month. We are spending a lot of money on rent + mortgage but our Peerspace is starting to pick up so as of right now, I want to give it a couple more months for it to reach its potential.
