It’s crazy to me because I always felt like at the top factory level guys would be super up tight and snobby but that way those guys offered help and was just cool to see guys hanging out not battling to the death for point was pretty chill

The big problem you all were having with the other carbs is it’s not the jets I do a lot of two stroke conversion if you don’t get the angle of the carb to match the bike it came from the floats don’t work as they should and this causes a bog because your basically starving the bike of fuel with these two stroke conversion into a four stroke frame always take a it to get the float height right

I had this problem with my 07 CRF with a 94rm250 engine in it. Put a Chinese pwk copy in and its mint, basically out of the box went up one size main jet

at least KTM did the R&D on their own pipe so it would have run right. I expect this custom pipe was most of the problem. way more science in 2-stroke pipes than most realize (sonic wave backpressure at precise RPM range under full load for proper exhaust scavenging).

@@yukonjon5964 without knowing the specs, I’d guess the biggest issue was the Airbox. They either had to modify the stock CRF or adapt the KTM and either of those options could have a big affect on tuning. Bike needs a Keihin in my opinion.

@@straighttimestirrups could be. mod rigs take a lot of work to sort out. dyno and real world. a well tuned Keilin carb should be able to account for the mod work better than a Lectron, because you can split up the circuits better. make the mid leaner but keep it rich on top.

Had exactly the same issue with our 150, apparently it is a thing called a block seal and a seal near the needle valve, we put a lectron on, no issues since, 👍

You still have to tune the lectrons but they are easier to do so. I had to pick from billetron or keihin with stic mod, glad I went with the keihin.

Hey Aj, i've got a also a KTM 150 22'. In the beginning i got a Lectron carb but still Problems with bogging. I've got very good results with the v-force4, a hgs exhaust and a jd-jetting Kit with the original carb. No bogging anymore and very crispy. With this settings in my opinion the Bike runs insane good. Greetings from Germany

SMART CARB!!! I installed a smartcarb on my 22 yz125, tightened up the squish, cleaned up the porting added 7oz flywheel weight and a quick turn throttle. MY BIKE RIPS! too bad your bike didn't turn out

such a bummer i had a mikuni carb on a te 300 could never get the dang thing running right. For what ever reason the ktm family mikuni carbs the float bowl seal is absolutely mangled from the factory. mine looked like it had 200hrs on it and was over tightened and squashed to the boonies. swapped it with a keihin and it was night and day.

Sucks that the bike wasn't running well. Two different carburetors are doing the same thing, I wonder if your intake is causing turbulence not allowing the carburetor to do its job.

I never did figure out the jetting on a stock '07 CR. Went with V-Force reeds and it screamed! I'd try that before writing the bike off.

My parents were divorced growing up, so my dad would pick me up to go riding then drop me back off at my moms. So I never saw the bike getting worked on! Then I turned pro, and always had mechanics. Now I just don’t have the time nor desire to learn 😂 I like it this way!

Keep it but take it somewhere that knows what they're at. Get a keihin, suzuki needle (or jd jetting kit), new boyesen reeds and cage and make sure the carb angle isn't off, otherwise your float isn't where it should be or functioning correctly. Check the custom airbox for leaks too.

Just my opinion but.. on my 20 ktm 250sx I purchased new, I had issues from day 1 with jetting.. and if your reeds are stock, I would bet that’s your issue. KTM reeds have been known to be defective from the factory.. mine were.. I replaced stock with a boyeson rad valve and JD jetting kit. Huge improvement!! night and day…I understand the event is over, but if you’re going to keep the bike I’d give that a try as it’s a KTM motor. 🤙

Mikuni can jet just fine - you need the richer slide, that's why it's sputtering at mid throttle.

Having bottom end issues I’m real surprised you didn’t have stank beat that dude up for a keihin. I ran a lectron on my moto bike for a bit. It Robbed way too much response off bottom. Stuff I was clearing with ease on the stock carb I couldn’t even seat bounce with the lectron 😂😂. Went to a keihin so jetting wasn’t so finicky. Glad it ran for you. You had one of the sickest bikes in the pits dude. 👊🏻🤙🏻

I’ve got that same stank dog mentality. Anytime I could help my competition with something I did. because I was racing dirt bikes against myself trying to be the best I could be. But downside of KTM trying to save a dollar I guess that’s why they went to Mikuni. I’ve had 28 KTM‘s and you could not beat that Keihin carburetor that came on the bikes. once he gets a Keihin on there will probably be ok. and actually for a walk that bike is 14 K it’s probably not a bad price.

01 CR250 here with a lectron carb and I have had outstanding results. No bogs, better low end with excellent power delivery. I love my lectron!

Curt, smaller engines equal less vacuum signal so they generally require larger jets than larger engines.

@@AjCatanzaro from my experience (excluding Lectron)... with custom or aftermarket pipes, the top end jetting will need to be pretty rich, but to get it to run ok everywhere else, you cant just tune what comes stock in the carb. need someone who can experiment with completely different needles and needle jet tubes to get it lean enough to run right everywhere other then full throttle. it's an art. what others wrote about carb angle, venting and reeds are great points too.
