Please tell me if I’m wrong, I thought the trooping of the colours was part of the Queens official birthday. This was to celebrate the Queens Coronation. If I’m right Charlie’s coronation date becomes the trooping of the colours 6th May not June.

The Birthday Parade is exactly that, it has no link to the Coronation date. It is held in June regardless of the Monarch's actual birthday. I believe this decision was taken by Edward VIII or George V whose birthday was in November because it was felt that the Parade should be at a time of better weather in UK.

Does anyone know why there are so many musicians from non guards bands. It looks as if some are from RMA Sandhurst band. I hope they will have them in Bearskins for the Birthday Parade, otherwise it will look very odd.

To my knowledge, some of them are quite ‘new’ as in straight out of training so they don’t have ‘no. 1‘ dress made for them as yet and in so they wear the corps (musician) uniform for this order. As for the others, they are ‘borrows’ from different bands - I assume they will be given uniform for the day maybe?

Alot of the time the household div bands can have "spares" from the other 4 bands as they're uniforms are all very similar, with some slight differences between them (plumes in the bearskins/number of buttons on the torso etc)

The army bands already have their new uniforms...ed tunics..black pants and forage caps..very smart.

Many years ago the blue uniforms for the Brigade of Guards were Walking out dress..worn with forage caps...my brother was in 1st Btt Grenadiers..the kit. was vast...i enormous... In 1964 the Kiwi Army took over the Guard Duties...their greatcoats taken out of NZ Army stores..all different lengths...the Guards tailors spent two days getting them all the same length off the ground...thee took over from Queens company of tall guardsmen & officers....a bit mean that as the height difference was quite marked...

In the front band some wore red bands on their hats, some wore red bands on their hats and tunics and some wore none. As they were in the same band grouping, which I would presume to be members of the same band, why would this be please. Curious ex-RN.
