I agree fully but they are not really a Marching Band. They march superbly and are a band of great musicians but do so with great style, panache and pride without any gimmicks. I couldn't help but use my table as a drum and my arthritic old fingers as drumsticks beating out the time!

Marching bands are generally a bunch of civilians sauntering around playing a variety of tunes, often at the same time, whilst wearing 'uniforms' more suited to the Ruritanian balloon corps. Mr Collins has the right answer here.

@@DE-xt7jvThis video shows the march to HorseGuards Parade from Wellington Barracks. They form up on the road outside the barracks as is traditional. That farting about as you put it was them coming down from the barracks to muster ready for the March! How else do you think they'd manage it ? By teleportation,? until you can do the same excellent job please keep your observations to yourself, and just enjoy this marvellous achievement, I'm an army brat, daughter of a Regimental Sergeant Major , this thrills me to the core, these young people are keeping up an old tradition that has served us well for centuries, long may this great country survive, GOD BLESS ALL WHO SERVE.

Superb musicians and excellent drill especially during the Beating Retreat pieces. Well done the Guards. But anyone else notice a lady on the opposite pavement in line with the Drum Majors from about 06.50 when the first change of tune took place. She had a burgundy cloak thing on and was stepping out in perfect time. I wonder if she was ex military as she did a check step to get in step and just got caught up in the moment. I hope so and hope she has great memories if she did serve.

This sounds a lot more musical than I'm used to hearing from British military bands: not better, but freer in terms of how they're approaching the music. It's refreshing certainly. I wonder if this has something to do with Charles III and his interest in music which QEII didn't have so much.

Why did the Drum Major salute at the beginning of the march?
@e.chambers2973
@e.chambers2973 8 ай бұрын
Most likely, Gareth Chambers, senior drum major and member of the Irish Guards, was acknowledging one of Britain's and his regiment's towering military figures, Harold Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Tunis, for whom there is a memorial, visible from Birdcage Walk and located next to the entry to the Guards' Chapel, Wellington Barracks. Alexander was an outstanding British field commander and a top allied general of WWII who also served with distinction in WWI. He was Colonel of the Irish Guards (1946-49) and was commissioned into the regiment in 1911 from Sandhurst. Next to Alexander's statue, there is also a Belgian architect-designed Flanders Fields Memorial Garden, a gift from Flanders that incorporates soil from many military cemeteries and battlefields. Dedicated to the participants in the Great War, the memorial was opened in 2014 by Queen Elizabeth II and King Philippe of the Belgians. Possibly the salute also acknowledged this memorial.
