Entente Cordial, April 8 1904. Ended antagonisms between GB and France. 120 years ago.

Wonder what my late father would make of it, he was an RSM I in the Scots guards, we need all the allies we can with the state of the world today

Thanks for the coverage Buska, wonder what they thought of having to rehearse at Wellington barracks. They were quite smart though.

Not military police they are gendarmerie, who are not Police but part of the military, the french police are police and not military. You will not find gendarmes in most French towns or cities, and the uniform differs, the gendarmerie also have policing powers, make no mistake they are the real military.

In France, the National Gendarmerie is with the National Police, one of two national law enforcement forces, and is also a unit of the French Armed Forces. The Gendarmerie is also the military police in the French army, called Provost for forces deployed overseas. I wonder if the Garde Républicaine (calvary) will take also part in the celebration on Monday.

@@francinesicard464 They are in fact Gardes Républicaines, but this is an infantry regiment. The Sarkozy administration transferred the Gendarmerie to the Ministry of the Interior from the Ministry of Defence, but much against the will of the military. That said, they are still apart from la Police Nationale and the idea that they could seamlessly merge into the Police hasn't worked at all out. Of course they are still military. La Garde Républicaine carry out ceremonial duties such as guarding the Elysée Palace, providing a ceremonial guard to the President of the Assemblée Nationale (the French Parliament) when he makes his way from his official residence to the Chamber and so on. In Paris they are quite often seen on horseback, but of course that is not the regiment that you see here.

Whose idea was it to have the French involved in British royal guard duty? Plus ... What could possibly go wrong?
@DavidCurtis-g1u9 ай бұрын
The “ guards “ at Royal Palaces provided by the Foot Guards regiments are purely ceremonial; the Metropolitan Police are responsible for routine operational security, so we are not handing over security to the French.

I find it really fascinating the marching rhythms of different countries. The USA look lazy, but maybe that’s because I’m used to the Guards crispness.

Celebrating the signing of the Entente Cordiale in 1904. I thought they were very smart, but judging by the ones left in Paris the French sent over their smartest soldiers.

They look half dressed in only shirts & their marching didn't look that precise expecially their leader jmo
@franc91119 ай бұрын
They are not in their full dress uniform. Their way of marching isn't quite the same, so they are having to adapt, which can't be easy for them.

The time of the Uk being a great nation is long gone my friend. It ended more than a century ago. Glad you are just waking up.

A stupid remark. As stated above, this is to commemorate the signing of the Entente Cordiale. King Edward VII was personally involved in the discussions that led up to it.

What does Buska mean - French Military Police take over chaning of the Guard?
@solamano72399 ай бұрын
There were British troops doing the same in Paris. It was a rehearsal for the 120th anniversary on the 8th.
@peterbrown10129 ай бұрын
But they are not taking over guarding Buckingham Palace, its just a parade in the grounds of the Palace.
