Half-Life 2 uses a ton of stock sound effects. The one I always notice is the "dropping a bag full of chains" sound the Combine make. Honestly I'm surprised there isn't a Wilhelm Scream in HL2.

At the end when the guy is showing his feeling of self doubt and insecurity, where he says that he is afraid of trying because of the fear of falling and making something that is not good enough... at the end when he lets go and just gives you what the game is, a button. I'd like to give credence to, in particular, the segment made to replicate performing on a stage and how jolly reacts. His initial hesitation and fear of being disappointing or messing up no matter how much he's practiced, the brief pause just before the action, and the final moment of realization and clarity that comes from understanding that it doesn't matter what it is he's actually doing. Good or bad, entertaining or a stunning failure, it doesn't matter. "I'm just going to push a button"
