Interesting to listen to this review Greg, thanks. If you recall, I PM'd you some while ago after a trip to Wales on my 950 Adv as I was considering the AJP to replace the 950 if only for weight savings. I didn't make the swap and love my 950, I'm learning its capabilities the more I ride it but the limiting factor is me more than the bike!! And like you, I have a 450exc in the garage for more technical and knarly stuff. Keep up the vids, love listening. Would be good to hook up one day so if you're ever in Devon look me up 👍

First off, great production quality as always! Love the photos you shoot. My question is what do you see as the bikes biggest weak point, and is it something you feel you can work around or live with??
@GregVillalobos
@GregVillalobos 2 жыл бұрын
So, it's heavier than my 450 EXC and most of the time that's no drama, but occasionally on tricky trails I have felt the weight, especially as it's not so easy for shorties to get their feet down. I guess the biggest weak point for me is confidence in reliability. Others have had problems but so far mine has been largely trouble free. I purposefully have not changed anything significant from stock as my suspicion is that the problems arise when you start tweaking stuff that has an impact on the fuelling and ECU. This is one of the reasons for not putting the power up kit on. I think it's easier to work on than say a 690, however you have to work a bit harder to find parts etc whereas the KTM parts setup is super easy. Hope that helps!

Hey Greg,great vid👍 I've got the 21 pr7, loving it,seems to manage everything I throw at it so very pleased. The issue with the crappy headers and lower pipe does piss me off a bit so I'm going to make up my own stainless pipes and marry them up to a scorpion can😁😁 Let you know how it turns out👍👍

Great video! With your insight and knowledge of adventure bikes I'd love to see a video on which bike you'd take on a RTW trip. The AJP surely is an awesome bike but would you trust it outside of Europe? Keep it up!
@GregVillalobos
@GregVillalobos 2 жыл бұрын
That's such a good question. For me the PR7 has a big grin factor, and as my trips are fairly short it's about packing those grins in. Maybe for a longer trip where you just need total reliability then something like the CRF250L / Rally might be a contender. It would get you where you need to go but probably slower and with a bit less testosterone. And for a RTW trip maybe that's OK.

I also had clutch issues so sold the bike back to dealer after the 2nd clutch problem within a very short period of ownership and covering just 2500 miles. The after sales support was fantastic, I was well looked after by the dealer who did everything they could to resolve the problem but unreliability and lack of readily available parts made the decision an easy one for me. Im now on a KTM690.

@@peterlivsey2138 Hi Peter, I am wondering how your experience is compared to the AJP bike one year later. I am currently in the market for these bikes. My descision will be between the 690/701 or the PR7. Would realy like to know what the cons or pros would be for any of these bikes. Thanks in advance!
@peterlivsey2138
@peterlivsey2138 Жыл бұрын
@@DieHardINL Just my opinion but the 690 is far better built and supported. I'm at 9k of off-road riding and racing on the bike with no mechanical issues. The PR7 has the screen/tower as standard so it's cheaper compared to the 690 + rally tower but I had a few issues in my short time with mine. Test ride a 690/701 and see if it's what you're looking for.

@@peterlivsey2138 Thanks you so much! That's pretty much what I wanted to hear. Reliability and part availability are pretty important for longer adventure rides. Still have to ride both and will make a descision after that. I am 2m (6,5ft) so have to make sure the bike suits me. PR7 has a great package though, but 690 is probably a longer lasting choice. Thank you for the quick response! Ride on 🤟

I wonder how this compares to a Honda XR650L… Has anyone done a video on this? I owned a brand new 1984 XR500R when I was young. It was a monster. I love the AJP. It seems to be built from very high quality components. The small issues I’ve heard about guys having seem to be easily fixed and the company has a great reputation for excellent customer service and support.

The Motoz ADV yes 👍 I agree do last longer but also agree the Rallz is better traction off road and actually on road as well as they have more silicon than the ADV . The Motoz Desert 🏜 HT,s are traction MAX , but are SO noisy on road .Here is an idea try fitting a SWM RS 650 pipe it’s a high pipe and runs straight off the same engine.

I'm considering the PR7 to replace my T7, which is a great bike in so many ways but as soon as it gets slow and slippery, you really feel the weight and how high it sits. I want to test ride the PR7 but doubt I'll get a chance to ride it on the chalky lanes near where I live. How do you find it in these conditions?

Can you speak a bit on your experiences with parts availability for these bikes? Its probably the biggest drawback compared to a KTM/Yamaha/Honda thing. (writing as a former TE610 owner).
@GregVillalobos
@GregVillalobos 2 жыл бұрын
You can get the parts. BUT it's not as easy as with my KTM EXC. If you have a local dealer you can call them up and they will help you, but it's not as simple as just punching in a part number to a KTM website. I've not been let down so far though. Just takes a little bit of effort.

To chip in my thoughts on the difference between the 690: I think you sit ON the KTM, and IN the AJP a bit. The AJP is softer all around, engine, seating etc. The biggest issue for me was the size of it. It's somehow bigger, but WAY smaller: my knees were around my ears when I sat down, so even with the cushy seat, the KTM is more comfortable to me. I'm 185cm tall for ref. Deffo getting a Seat Concepts seat when they're available though.

Hi Greg, I have a Kawasaki KLR 650 and most of the time I do full day rides and almost all the time in dirt roads or tracks. I have a job that wont allow me to travel for to many days. What I like the most is riding in the dirt. I live in Peru and there are very nice full day rides in the mountains Sierra or the desert. My KLR is limited to do some rides and I was hoping to buy a second hand enduro bike to do more tecnical rides. When I saw the PR7 I really liked how it looks and started to read about it. I was thinking that maybe instead of having two bikes I could have only one the PR7. I will not do very hardcore enduro rides like climbing steep mountains but maybe I can use the PR7 to do some tecnical enduro? Do you think is that posible? I dont have a big budget so PR7 could give me the oportunity to have one bike for both type of rides? Thanks

planning a trip through north and South America and im leaving in a couple of months. going to buy the bike in the US because shipping a bike back and forth from Europe seems too expensive atm will be riding mainly Offroad trails like the BDR and the TAT in the US, head into BAJA and see what happens after..... I'm seriously considering this bike vs modding a Ktm 500 vs a Honda CRF 450L. ( the Honda and Ktm need more money after buy to get them suitable.... the pro's and the con's....) what's your opinion?

BUT the quotes I'm getting for a one way shipping from EU to USA are from the 1500 euro upwards.... so 3000 euro seems just not worth it to send a bike back and forth.. end of monologue. cheers man

It's hard to say as everyone has different preferences. I would choose the T7 for a road ride, but not for anything that was off road. That's just where I prefer my compromise, the EXC is less comfort on the road but more options for the dirt and I'll take that.

Mmm to me that is considered tall, at least where I’m living in the Netherlands and we have the tallest people on the planet. So pleas could you re measure ar tell me how much in centimeters (the Napolian way of measuring or French way. Please

I like your talking head videos. Did it come to your mind that some vloggers do not understand that camera lense is viewers eyes. I speak about those guys who use they hands a lot and they love to push it to camera direction. I often feel like they want to punch me. And those lense cover with hand transitions also in my mind are a bit awful for the same reason.

I hear what you're saying about the fans kicking in. Cringe. Especially since the crossers (and maybe smaller enduros. Don't quote me) don't even have fans. It makes you wonder just how hot it's actually getting for those to keep kicking in?...as you say, it's probably best to just let go over your head. That's what they're there for. It makes you curious if the radiators are particularly small for that kind of engine or something though, just food for thought?...
