I remember when my parents got divorced, I obviously had a lot of feelings, but the main one was fear. I guess as a child you idolise your parents in a lot of ways, they’re your role models, and I saw their love as the goal, the pinnacle. To learn at an early age that love can...I don’t want to say die, because I don’t think it really does, but change...falter, I suppose, is scary. And something I have and still do struggle with is the fear of being with someone, that I can love someone so fully and wholly, and they could love me, but that love could fall is terrifying to me. Though, I suppose, “it’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all”.

When my parents got divorced, my main thing was that I didn't know if my dad was coming back. (I was 9 when it happened) See, one day I had gotten home from a sleepover, and my parents weren't talking to each other. The next day, my dad had went to go stay at a friend's house for a bit. I was so worried, because he just told me that he was leaving for a couple of days. I remember him giving me a teddy bear dressed in one of his t-shirts with his cologne on it. Im 14 now, and I have a lovely stepmom and stepdad, and I have a very good relationship with both of my parents. I have to remind myself sometimes that parents are sometimes better for the child when they're apart.

@miabilinski-sosnowski11143 жыл бұрын
and that's completely fine. I was 8 when my parents divorced. Most of the time, the reason for which our parents' divorce hurts us so much is that we're so used to them being "the perfect couple" and we always used to see them as happy and lovey-dovey and then out of nowhere, it's just gone. Just like that. and u end up probably feeling helpless or like it's your fault, which it isnt. The marriage just didn't work out between them in the way anyone hoped. ik its been 2 months since u posted this but I just wanted to say:) if u respond to this, I may not see it because yt never sends me notifications but yeah i j wanted to tell u that i promise, ur parent's divorce is not your fault. u didnt do anything wrong and ur not alone. have a good day :) im 12 btw lol but i promise it all gets better

like many of the others in this comment bit....my parents are seperated, they were never married, this is the ONLY song that i have found that tells how i feel about it or has the same sorta...energy i guess, yknow? this is also the only song that i've cried too...the "I don't wanna do it for dad at dad's new place" fucking hits me hard, i fucking started to bawl from it...honestly i don't know if i wanna have kids, because i don't wanna risk this happening and my kids having to deal with the same shit i went through, i don't wanna know that i gave someone depression for something that they had no control over, and im 14 btw
@bear26123 жыл бұрын
I have gone through the same thing like almost exactly the same thing and it is understandable that you don't want to have children but if you choose to don't make the same mistake as your parents and find someone who treats you right and you truly love. ( I am also 14 btw)
@Siege-xs6br3 жыл бұрын
Our parents split when I was six. All I’ve ever wanted to do was be a father and a good husband. We have three wonderful kids who know they are loved. It’s a choice. Sometimes it’s a hard choice, but knowing what I went through as a kid keeps me focused on staying a good dad and a good husband. If you find the right person someday, don’t let your parents’ mistakes fool you into thinking you will too. There’s too much to miss out on because of fear. Don’t forget you past. Don’t forget your pain. But let it guide it to be something better.
@lunaballuna3 жыл бұрын
I honestly can't go in my moms house. It feels weird. My dad is in the process of selling our childhood home and it's weird to see these walls so empty. Where there use to be family photos, there's just empty space. I'm moving to a new state with my husband to break away from it, but honestly I wish my parents had divorced when I was a kid rather than when I was 25. It's alot worse when kids are exposed to fighting parents non stop and while it's always hard to see your parents separate, to me it's alot harder to live in a house where 2 of the members hate each other.
@creepingdebt9883 жыл бұрын
@@lunaballuna yea i understand the moving thing, we moved from the house i grew up in, in 2018, then moved 2 more times. i still dream and think about that house, its like an anchor that my mind goes to, like a savehaven, when i think about it, it makes me feel good then bad, and just....sad but more than sad, cause of all the stuff i remember from the seperation, ive tried therapy but it didnt last long due to covid, plus i dont like therapists anyway (to me they only do it for the money, and when they say they relate to you, they’re lying)
@ajmalaika12873 жыл бұрын
You are much stronger than you know. Life is only a cycle if you let it, being undecided about kids is valid, But I believe it's all about communication and acknowledgement of the kid's feelings and I believe your experience will mean no one else will be as empathetic and caring and understanding to your own kids as you so reducing any trauma and teaching them that it's just another one of life's changes in a healthy way. I'm not saying it won't hurt cause sure it will but it's like getting a cut or wound. Even though it leaves a scar knowing someone loved and cared enough to help you heal makes the scar a reminder of their love for you and their strength to overcome the difficult time they must be going through to a parent and partner. IDK Thanks for listen to my TED talk

This is so well done. Just overall. There's so many different levels of meaning. Not only does it hit the obvious level for those of us with divorced parents, but the video itself dives into the escapism that a lot of us had to delve into just to cope because reality was too much. It also depicts him experiencing all 5 stages of grief. The escapism is a form of denial, the anger when he imagines himself trampling a city, the depression when he's dragged to the depths of the ocean, the lyrics, especially the chorus, is him trying to bargain to keep them together a little longer, and eventually, the acceptance when he feels himself torn in half. I don't think this song could be any more perfect.
