Two songs about depression on their new album, this one and my personal favorite on the album Humpty Dumpty. I love how all of AJRs music has a deeper meaning to it.

Technically you could count My Play and Word's Smallest Violin also as songs about depression. WSV is literally another Therapy session and it reflects one of the most thought thoughts depressed people have, aka comparing yourself to others and realizing how much better they are. Meanwhile My Play is depression a kid has to go through due to the divorce of their parents. The part that made me realize that the kid isn't doing well at all was "But when I show you my play Will you pretend you didn't know If I make a mistake? It's gonna get really, really, really, really bad Before it's okay But maybe you'll forget it all While you're watchin' my play". Usually kids try to convince their parents to stay together, but this kid has long accepted that fate and rather focusses on trying to keep their parents happy when they themselves need help too. Hell, they can't even trust their parents anymore, cause if all the "I love you"s has been fake the whole time, what else is there left to believe in? People with depression put others before themselves, which can be seen in this last verse too. Joe could also be a song that hints at depression. Or it could be the aftermath of My Play. Cause who else is there that can be proud of you if not that one friend you don't want to ever let go? And where do these abondenment issues come from? From a past that was all about major people in your life leaving

I will say, as much as I love AJR, Jack is definitely not the best live performer. He just doesn’t sound very good
