”DYK” is swedish for ”dive”. ”PLAN” is swedish for ”level”. Bombing in level flight requires more accurate preplanning of the target and spreads the bombs over a longer area. Divebombing allowes the pilot to visually observe the target and do ajustments. It allso has a smaller spread of the bombs. The popup, however exposes the attacking aircraft to ground fire and radar.

Dive bombing is the most fun. If you want to do a "real" pop up you pop-up then go inverted right away to locate the target before rolling in onto it :D

For Swedish pilots the minimum altitude for training was 10m ASL and 20m AGL. Yes, even in peace time.

To those wondering , the rolls after the climb are there because pulling -ve G's in the Viggen is a big No-No

Moving target ranging is for moving targets. Like a ship or a truck the Viggen will automatically calculate its heading and compensate. It pases this on where you put the sight dot in some modes. When you release the safety that's when it starts calculating normally

If you pull negative G when bombs are dropping you can fly into them, so if you explode in the air you know why !

Btw - when divebombing you can use the radar altimeter, and you don’t have to worry about QNH and QFE and stuff. Just aim and drop.

I thought you were supposed to put the pipper on target and then flip up the safety. That's how you designate the target for the bombing computer. You seem to have flipped up the safety when the pipper was still well short of the target. That might explain why you missed.

Thanks, w/o you i´d still sit there and curse the Viggen to not wanting to drop my bombs. I always switched the safety just anywhere and nothing worked 🙃

your head position seems low, check your setup as it will help with HUD symbology disappearing off the bottom of the HUD glass.

Hi im looking to get in Dcs and i dont know what things to buy like do i buy rutter pedals thruster and joystick im literally gonna buy tommorow Sorry for bad english under 18 and im swedish :)

Kraaakan I would get the Thrustmaster T.16000M hotas. It’s probably the best one. Very good reviews everywhere. Logitecs joysticks are shit. I personally have the top of the line Warthog replica but I wish I didn’t because it’s really heavy and meant to be used with gloves and stuff in a real plane. If I were to buy a new one I’d chose the T.16000M. I dont use rudder pedals. Modern jet fighters do just fine fithout them. If you allso want to play WW2 games and fly propeller aircraft, rudder pedals is absolutely necessary.

Rudder pedals are not necessary for prop flying. In 2 years of a dedicated campaign for il-2 cliffs of Dover with the flying group Air Combat Group (ACG) I flew 60 realistic WW2 combat missions (1 life, scripted after real battles from battle of Britain with over 150 live digital pilots) in the bf109 e models, on a saitek x52 pro with no rudder pedals. Officially the longest lived pilot currently in ACG, rudder pedals are not a necessity.

I think you are mixing up retarded bombs with high-drag. You keep calling the high-drag bombs retarded bombs. All bombs without guidance are retarded. After that they can be either high-drag (parachuted) or low-drag. Also, when doing dyk bombing with the Viggen, from what I have tested, it doesn't seem to care about the QFE, it just uses laser ranging all all times. The ranging que at the bottom of the hud will just correspond with whatever the distance and angle is to whatever the dot in the center of the hud is over. Just try flying around with endless ammo and low-drag bombs with the QFE set to something completely stupid and just drop when the hud tells you to. The bombs will hit every time.

You're wrong. Retarded is not synonymous with "dumb". Retarded is synonymous with "slowed down". Any high drag bomb is a retarded bomb. Wiki for source: "The retarded bomb uses a mechanical method of creating increased aerodynamic drag, such as a parachute, ballute, or drag-inducing petals. These deploy after the ordnance is released, slowing its fall and abbreviating its forward trajectory, giving the aircraft time to get clear of the blast zone when bombing from low altitudes or with nuclear ordnance."

I was always under the impression that retarded mean unguided munitions, and when I looked up "retarded bombs" on Google to confirm what I thought was right, first hit was "Unguided munitions". It turn out, upon reading further into it, that retarded bombs indeed means high-drag bombs, despite it sounding like they are another word for "dumb" bombs, or "gravity bombs" as low drag bombs apparently are called these days So please disregard what I said about retarded bombs.
