It has been in the Reserve Training Center for 40 years.And on average, almost every rifle is used to practice shooting real 30,000-50,000+ bullets per year for 30 years Of course there were some changes to the Barrel parts, but the gun was still the same. The gun is still considered to be working normally.Therefore, yes, it is a very good gun.

@@BloodIsTheInkOfFreedom okay where do I begin. So the original type 1 ak was a stamped steel receiver which supposed to be cheap to produce. The soviets couldn't get the technology up and running for from 1947-1949 there were several thousand original type 1s produced. All of which are rare and museum pieces today. In 1949 there was a redesign of the receiver in order to become on milled component. This receiver was a solid chunk of steel milled into a receiver. This two different types where born the milled and the original stamped steel. In 1959 the soviets had finally perfected the art of stamping and began to produce the AKM. The AKM is still an AK-47 variant, adherent to the original design with slight modifications in the rivet pattern as well as additional supporting ribs. To answer the question of how, one can look at the dozens of examples made by non state actors in Africa, the middle east and Asia, all of which have been making AK clones since the time of the original rifles. In fact the Chinese type 56 is a direct clone of the Russian AKM with slight modifications.

The 7.62x39 cartridge is an intermediate round, soviet doctrine at the time was to overwhelm the enemy with a hoard of soldiers carrying AK47's basically creating a wall of lead. Simple reliable design which is easy to take apart, clean and repair in the field using the on board tool kit capsule in the buttock and cleaning rod. It was never meant to be a precision rifle, it was meant to get the job done and it was/is very effective for the job it was created for doing, there are cemetery's full of DEAD people that prove this very fact! Trench warfare was done at the end of WWII, the 7.62x39 round is ideal for urban warfare because of its ability to punch through structure materials, its also very good for jungle warfare for its ability to punch through vegetation, also good for using in harsh environments such as the dessert... Someone can be taught how to dissemble and operate one in a couple of hours making it ideal to train anyone how to operate one. Its also way less expensive to manufacture and provide a support system for countries that either do not have a multi-gazillion dollar military budget and do not want to be beholden to the US for parts and support. When our military goes to war it has to have a MULTI-BILLION dollar support system for the M-4 to deploy with it to keep them up and running, the enemy has no such support system because they do not need one... An over 70yr old design that is still being fielded today by numerous countries throughout the world and will be here long into the future...

When i was in vietnam i remember comming across this huge underground storage there was more then 2 thousand of these rifles and hundreds of ammo cases we burn them s.o.b. and blowup the ammo probably saved a lot of lives , in the early 2000 i went back to Vietnam to the same area it took me many many years to come to Peace whit all that nightmares (i never resive any counselling and i had to deal whit it myself) two of my neighborhood friends got killed i remember walking by their homes after i comeback and ill never forget the wey their families looked at me like i done Somthing wrong by camming back and not their sons.

MUTALISKUS 1986 Ak was adopted in 1949. However it was kept discrete by making soldiers carry the rifles in special cases that concealed the appearance. Soldiers also had to pickup their spent cases. The first public appearance of Ak was in the 1955 movie "Maxim Perepelitsa" (Максим Перепелица). In 1956 during the Hungarian Uprising Ak had its first battle debut. After the uprising a few captured rifles made it U.S. Anyway Soviets were able to keep the rifle secret to the West for six-seven years.

There is literally no reason to use 7.62x51. The idea was not to make a lighter cartridge for the soldier but to carry more for the same weight you absolute mongrel. The hard facts are that if your squad armed with M14s came to fight a 3 man armed with lighter fully automatic rifles shooting a cartridge that embedded themselves into your organs you would not live to see the end.

Try going back and actually reading the post before you start shooting your mouth off. I spent a great deal of time in service to the United States government, and I'm fully aware of why the change of cartridges was made. It was one part entitled draftees whining about the weight in Vietnam, and one part political economic dealing on behalf of Congress. I've also seen the reports indicating that on average nearly three times as many lighter rounds were required to amass the same number of kills as the full rifle calibers during the transition period. That, however is not the point of this video or my post. And if you really think the 7.62X51 is useless, I suggest you check in on how effective the EBR platform has been in the Middle East over the last 19 years. Some of your cousins likely have first-hand experience in the matter...

@@SMGJohn i highly doubt that. 1000m is quite tricky, even for precision rifles. Especially when you said "just fine" for an AK with scope. The AK has good enough accuracy. It does its job well at 300m range as an assault rifle, same like the M16 or M4. However at longer range, which is unlikely, M16/M4 rifles may have better advantage since the dropoff of 5.56 is lesser than 7.62x39mm. But +400m range is just unlikely. Too far to shoot accurately even for the M16/M4

Im guessing this was early 60s or so, because the presenter is talking like the folding stock is srandard to the original russian design, when this seems to be an AKMS. And that he says it was made to replace the SKS when it was actually originally made to replace the multiple SMGs that the soviets used, before it's potential was later realised and replaced both the SKS' and SMGs' roles. Not that I imagine most people who had to watch this really cared at all, but interesting how uniformed the US likely was about the individual steps the AK took to becoming the main arm of the USSR's forces. Although then again, it probably only matters for the weapons designers who would want to see how the other side is doing things. I wouldn't imagine a soldier thinking that the difference between the accuracy and whatnot of an AKM and an AKMS is all that substantial enough to warrant any different tactics.

+stonedimaculate1983 We first deployed combat units to Vietnam in 1965, but there were USAF support personnel in country as early as the French withdrawal in 1955, Army advisors not too long after that, and Military Advisory Command Vietnam (MACV) was established in 1960 if I remember correctly. Based on what the instructor said, the non-subdued stripes on his uniform, and the fact that he was demonstrating a true early milled receiver AK-47 (not the later stamped receiver AKM), I would place the date of the film between 1959-1963. I also get a kick out of how he said that the 7.62 M43 cartridge was "not an effective cartridge at this time." Clearly old school Army there (although I can see how a soldier who probably shot the M1 Garand in basic training and was probably issued an M14 as his service weapon could look at the 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge and consider it ineffective for the ranges he was trained to shoot at), and certainly from a period before anyone in the U.S. encountered that rifle in great numbers.
