By far my favorite paints on the market. The thinner breaking point is incredible (I normally hin 1:2 paint:thinner, but I have gone as far as 1:3), the pigment density is off the charts compared to most paints I use (I can fully cover up grey primer in just 2 passes of white paint), and most importantly they finish with the smoothest matte finish I have ever seen. The finish is so smooth despite being matte that you can applied water slide decals directly without silvering (though it takes skill because there is not a ton of wiggle room for adjustment). One of these days I'm going to test panel lining directly a piece without gloss coating. Oh yeah, nearly forgot to mention, every time I think I flooded a piece, I go back to that piece and find no evidence of pooling or dripping.

Agree the paint is amazing, I thinned my down 70:30 with Tamiyas Laqcuer thinner retarder type and it sprayed amazing throuh my Harder and steenbeck silverline. I also got their high compatibility thinner so I need to give it a try!

This paint is amazing! Its so compatible with other paint and thinners. It worked well with Tamiyas laqcuer thinner retarder type and I thinned it down 70:30.

Looking good Linc! Are you going to do a brush-paint style finish vid?

Thanks Pete! I also received a small package of the AK-Interactive Figure Paints and OH MY, they are NOICE! So yes, I will do a short video on them too - you'd like to see it?

Just curious as to why you use enamels over acrylics.
@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright5 жыл бұрын
good question Brett - "oil and water" don't mix right? So long as the acrylics have had enough time to cure - roughly a day - then using chemically different layers reduces the chance of mishaps and enamels have a wonderful, longer drying time and very low surface tension. Having said that, I am primarily finishing my figure with water based acrylics this time although I may use some oils too. Hope that help!

@@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright hi Lincoln I just sew the video. Nice review. I have question...can u do some testing with their varnishes and how they compare with similar products like Tamiya, Mr. Hobby and etc.? Thank you very much.

I was really thinking of picking up a couple of colours from this line, but not sure if the flat finish will affect my usual building process...

Hi Ethan. Next I will try their AIR line that has a Satin Finish. Keep in touch ^^

was finally happy to have readily available lacquers as I can get my hands on these very easily since AK is local, but if you say they are not as hard as other lacquers it's a real bummer.

@@BigBadBvids 3:04 3:12 maybe I misunderstood the meaning? asking for real. Iguess I'll end up trying a couple pots anyway once I get my airbrush setup going again.

Yeah I've been hearing some confusion from a worker at a local hobby shop and from AK's own website. From their own website it seems these are lacquer based paints with maybe acrylic pigments in them; the guy at my local hobby shop was saying that they're not acrylic but can be sprayed on top or underneath any other type of paint without issue but couldnt tell me straight up if they were acrylic, enamel, or lacquer.

Hi guys, thanks for the great questions and help. I believe the Real Colors are "solvent based acrylic paints". What that means is, they are an acrylic polymer in a solvent base. It's safest to think of them as softer lacquers but still lacquers. Hope that helps. :)

So whats the advantage of Acrylic Lacquer over straight Acrylic or straight Lacquer.
@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright4 жыл бұрын
You've confused the terms there, there is no such thing as "straight Acrylic or straight Lacquer". There are water based acrylics and solvent based acrylics. Acrylic lacquers belong to the latter. Hope that helps!

Great report. I am totally agreeing to your point five. Acutally as a comitted brush painter I am rather dissapoinet with this paints. Acutally I do not like them at all. Just got used to laquer paints these somehow do not offer the same fun. As for the hues I find them rather dull and boring. Using a brush to paint them I found the covering properties rather poor indeed. I could not achive one single even coat of paint on any surface I tried my luck on. As I said brush painted only. All in all - to me - a wrong buy...

Hi Wolli Bär and welcome to my channel. Yes, I don't think this range is right for hand brushing. Let's test more of their products and see what we can do, I will keep you updated with very honest and concise product reports.
