Hi Matt. A very happy birthday to you. Lovely R2R. I have exactly this model in my collection. GX heads really soeak for themselves. This deck turns 47 years old in 2025. I have done a short video on it as well. Akai made great tape machines and amplifiers/receivers in the 70s 🎉

Where are you located at, I have an AKAI reel to reel recorder that has issues on the left channel and in record mode needs repair

Hey matt ! Always love seeing you come back with the Akai⭐️ hope all is well ! I have a question regarding a Tascam 22-4. If i decide the replace both reel tables will i have to calibrate/ align the recorder ? Its already been aligned and calibrated here in LA. Is it as simple as a plug n play ?

The spindles are slightly bent and i just got 2 NOS reel tables for it !

@alanfindingzen Hey Alan, always great to hear from you. Those tables/spindles are simple ti replace, no calibration necessary. First though, you can try to re-center the spindles using vise-grips or pliers to carefully pry them. All the best in 2025

Thank you for the response Matt! Happy New Year! I got the reel tables installed and beyond happy how solid this machine is. One more question regarding the Akai Gx-4000D i want to slightly lubricate the idler wheels(plastic part), do you recommend any certian brand/type of lubricant ?
