I found a reason for a bad Dolby C sound for the Dragon recorded tape on Akai - I misaligned azimuth (used the wrong screw to adjust recording azimuth) during final adjustments after recapping. Fixed and now both play equal good with Dolby C.

Hello! I can barely tell any difference. I think you should seriously consider plugging the output of your tape selector / pre-amplifier directly to the input of your video recording device. Only that way we can fully appreciate the comparison. It is already difficult to judge from a re-capture through a microphone but also the listening position isn't fixed and well, if you'd ask me it's critical like aligning a tape head. Still I trust you on the Nakamichi having a just a little more dynamic range.
