Very clear and useful tutorial. Other ways to proceed could be to use time stretch or patch phrase (depending on the nature of the sample, this will sound good or not). What’s cool, especially with those MPCs, is that there are often multiple options to achieve your goal.
@malobeats
@malobeats 3 жыл бұрын
That is correct and I have used that method but have not been a big fan of it in my workflow so I notice I tend to pitch up or down my samples and play it by ear but that is a method that I want to continue to explore and get better throughout time. Thank you so much for this valuable input I appreciate you taking the time.

You're the best mate. I'm learning a lot if you all the time. Akai please look at this guy. Bro for how long can you use this headphone? The quality is amazing but after one hour I can not use it anymore. It's not comfortable at all. Or perhaps you have a trick for audio technica costumers in how to make it comfortable. I'm normally putting the headphones on my KRK speakers to make it less tight. It's works for while. Keep going with this great work man. All the best for you. Cheers mate

sorry for the offtopic question that you probably get alot but which version of the mpc one do you have? it looks a bit different to the retro edition and its the best looking version i've seen so far
@malobeats
@malobeats 3 жыл бұрын
Oh man I really appreciate that brother, and yes it is a question I get often. I actually have the original black version but I purchased a really nice retro skin from mpcstuff.com. Which covers up most of the MPC and it makes it look like it was built that way.

Great video, Malo. Quick question: When you mentioned that the sample is in its original key and if you decide add another sample, isn't easy to match a sample using the key detection feature? Please explain because I'm sure I am off somewhere. Thank you again for the content. Blessings to you and your family.
@malobeats
@malobeats 3 жыл бұрын
Hey David, you are correct as you pitch it up or down a few semitones you are able to detect the new key that is in but I’ve noticed that it can be a hit or miss since “musically” speaking it is not on a specific key it might be a few semitones off at times but I noticed that when I don’t shift the samples up or down with the pitch it’s almost like 100% of the time that I’m able to detect the key perfectly and add other samples or instrumentation on top of that with no issue. Again it is correct with what you said but it could be a hit or miss at times.

Great video! This is a great way to match drum loops with existing samples. However, this method doesn’t always work (there are samples with tempos where you can’t apply the match function, when doing that, it still remains the same; that happens mostly with melodic samples). Other than that, this is a powerful tool!
@malobeats
@malobeats 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Pablo, thank you for sharing this and you’re right that’s why there’s so many different ways I’m doing it which will not always work. So far I’ve had good luck most of the time with this method but there’s times where it could be a little funky and not detected exactly where it should be

This works indeed. However, you should be able to bmp match without changing the pitch using the 'warp' feature. Especially since you can add tails to sample chops, it should be the go-to way to timestretch. Then again, your old school MPC way definitely works fine too. It can be tricky to mask the audio artefacts (read: glitches) from using warp for anything too extreme. But especially in a beat with a lot of audio textures and layers, it won't be a problem. Drums would already be kind of choppy anyway and sometimes it is better for the individual drum sounds to have more room / duration, instead of pitching it up, making the sounds shorter. But not trying to say you did something wrong here. There are simply a dozen ways of accomplishing more or less the same thing.
@malobeats
@malobeats 3 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, thank you so much for taking the time and sharing this valuable input. I’ve used the warp method and haven’t been a big fan of it with my workflow I usually tend to pitch up or down and play it by ear, Since I don’t use the warp method as much I don’t really talk about it but I would like to explore it a little bit more in the near future. Thank you so much for this information by the way. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 3 жыл бұрын
@@malobeats You're welcome. Honestly, your solution works too and in plenty of cases has the better result. Unfortunately the warp (timestretch) on the MPC One can be a bit hit or miss. No hating, just saying. I also think the workflow is a bit rough, but I get more into it the more I use my MPC One. It's a powerful machine.

Hey this is totally off topic of the video, but I’m curious about any advanced cv stuff. I’m quite curious how automations can work, like pitch automation then pitch goes out the cv, or can an lfo be made otherwise for cv output. It’s pretty cool midi input can be sent to cv output. Also curious if Mpc can import midi files (not just record them in but load them from memory card or something).

@@malobeats I may have some more knowledge soon but, midi in can go to cv out (as gate or pitch) and of course the 4 cv out are stereo windows you split them into 2 mono each. Anyway I’m still experimenting and 50% understand modular so if I find something interesting I’ll share it
