The Roland 303's and 404's have awesome effects, especially when it comes to LoFi. In a perfect world, the MPC's would have the same effects, but they just don't. So, I don't see a problem with owning both. I think for certain situations, they truly compliment each other.

@def creator I'm not totally disagreeing with what you are saying. A sequencer is an essential part of beat making, and the MPC has been a staple in beat making as a sequencer for decades. With that being said, the 303's and 404's have found their place in beat making because of the sound that they can produce due to their effects. Since they have been made, there are several plugin makers who have attempted to mimic their effects because of that.
@ryanhursh63222 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. None of the effects in the MPC Live are remotely useful IMO, the filters, delays and reverbs sound like plastic and the Lo-fi is one of the worst. Makes my Octatracks effects sound brilliant in comparison. Almost makes the 404 a necessity.

You can't really appreciate the MK2 unless you've been banging the 404SX for years. It's mind blowing seeing all the stuff they added to the Mk2. It's like little MPC Akai now. The sample chopping, the effects, the sequencing.... CRAZY! This thing makes my old 404 look like an 82 Volvo now.

the 404 works so good even as just an effects box, i often make beats on the mpc and then re-record them onto the mk2 , its got such a warm sound, and the compression is unmatched, its honestly worth its asking price even if you literally just use it as an effects pedal . i never had the 404 mk1 , but always admired that sound style and never knew where it came from until i saw the mk2 pop up everywhere, and that lofi effect on the mk2? mmm-mmmm , thats not just warm, thats buttery . i think i probably played with the lo-fi effect alone for an entire day just messing with sounds and songs i had already made, Honestly i dont think i recorded any kind of song for like the first 2 weeks of owning the mk2 , just messed with sounds and pads and effects also i love your mpc ring , that shts dope lol

Great vid, Ave! Just got the MK2 a few days ago and this is exactly what I was looking for. I love the 404's messier way of making music, just get in and get your hands dirty! Sure, Flavor Pro, Lofi and XY on the One/Live II are amazing, but there is nothing like the grit of the 404 - or the live effects - even if just to use it as a live controller. 404/One together is the secret sauce! Looking forward to trying some of this! Thank you for sharing, fam. Awesome as always.

If you already own an MPC that can do it all, the SP404 MK2 seems more of a nice-to-have, not must-have, to me: Fun for performance and FX processing at best, another device added to your GAS collection at worst.

That comparison is great. Does seem like sp404 is a good beginner device. Its really intuitive, less screen diving. For someone looking to establish a solid workflow as a beginner without spending a grip of cash, the sp404 mk2 is not bad at all. Then when the workflow is there, going to like an mpc or ableton push is easier. You have a better odea on how to navigate the music creation process without getting lost in the screen.

hi, can i ask you a question. are undecided whether to buy SP or the MPC. I'm not very interested in using it live and in common I would still interface with Ableton to finalize my works. I really like Lo Fi music but I'm afraid that SP is too much into Lo Fi music and can't get out of this genre. while for the MPC I'm afraid it's less immediate, more awkward to move (but it's not very serious) and that it's like having a computer and that it has many functions but superfluous if you intend to interface with Ableton. what do you recommend me?

You could also bounce the MPCs stems to wave, then load them into the SP for further processing and, manipulation.
