Thanks for posting this super-informative video! Have you had the opportunity to try other popular pads that respond well to light touches such as the Launchpad Pro Mk3 or Maschine Mk3? If so, could you comment on how your upgraded pad comes to their sensitivity and responsiveness?

I've tried Maschine, it feels very good and responsive. From my experience, the corx upgrade kit with the thick pads requires a heavier hand.

Why doesn’t Akai fix this in the first place?

I consider this an enhancement, like customizing your ride. The pads on the Akai's work fine, but they were never designed for modern finger drummers that demand a more responsive surface.

@@ErikHawk They do advertise on their website: 'feel the difference: super-sensitive thick fat MPC pads', so the fact that one of the most common complaints is lack of sensitivity shows that something's going wrong with quality control. edit: never mind, that's the newer mpd218, but still, what I said applies, it seems like even though they advertise it as super-sensitive, one of the biggest problems is inconsistent sensitivity.

I had just seen this video and I was thinking about getting the same thick red pads for my MPD26 my question do I really need to buy a extra set of the PAD CORX SENSITIVITY CORKS? And on their web sight the red thick pads don’t look the same as the ones you have & I want the exact ones so if I’m wrong can you please send me a link so that I will have the exact fat thick shade red pads that you have?

The sensitivity corx aren't necessary, they just create a contact that's closer to the circuit board's sensor. Hello Erik! I just bought an Akai 218 and am not happy with the sensitivity. The pads also suffer from the occasional double triggering, if not struck hard enough. Do you have any idea if this will enhance the sensitivity, as well as fix the double triggering issue?

Specifically, the corx product is what increases the sensitivity. It's how much space sit between the rubber and the contact that determine the sensitivity. I put the corx in and they're super sensitive, sometimes too much... so I had to train myself to have a lighter touch. But the lighter touch is actually better long-term on your hands and wrists. There are MPC 5000 upgrades available on MPCstuff.com. But I don't see pads for the 5000, you'd need to contact MPCstuff.com about this.
