Akai MPD226 - The Best Drumpad For Garageband

In this video, I explain why I think that the AKAI MPD226 is the best drum pad for Garageband.
One of the great things about it, among many, is that you don't need to install additional drivers or anything like that to get it to work.
I recently had a product from a company whose name I won't reveal, and it was a nightmare. None of the drivers were up to date, and I wound up having to send it back.
Thankfully, this isn't an issue with the MPD226.
In addition to explaining why I like MPD226, I also show you how to use some of its features.

notice there's a DC in, does it come with a wall mounted power supply as i have quite a few usb products taking up the power draw from my computer

It does have a DC in, but from what I can tell, it draws power from the USB cable.

Do you have to setup speakers or is the speakers built in? No sure how to set-up. I thought the computer would supply the audio, but I no sound ( even in big bang preset #2)

You have to use it with a digital audio workstation like GarageBand/Logic Pro X

You should be able to. I have my M Audio keyboard plugged in and an MPD and they both work. Keyboard plays your vst plugins (and with some midi mapping the keys will also trigger the pads in Beats) and you have your pads also available. Let the fun times roll.

0-127 is a holdover from MIDI which uses 128 discrete values for things :)

@@KoolGaitsChrisGalaxy you don't load the sounds into it. You control the sounds. Depends on your software, but most have a MIDI Learn function that you attach to the sounds. So in ableton, you load a drum rack and put sounds in the pad banks. When you connect the mpk, it usually just connects immediately and you can control the sounds with the pads.

If I had to do it again, I'd get the M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61. It has drum pads on it and it's an awesome keyboard. If you really have money to burn, the M-Audio Hammer 88 will probably last you for life.

I own one, but I use Ableton Live 10. Midi mapping is easier because Ableton has a button you click and map. Try finding how to map Midi in GarageBand not from the mpd226.
