To map the MPK249 to MPC beats or any other DAW first check if you have the midi map in your DAW and Know for a fact that MPC Main, MPC Beats and Reason 12 has the MPK249 so will listed as a selectable midi Map. If your DAW does not have the MPK249 midi map, contact Akai via email, they will send you the midi map files with instructions on what location they are to be placed on your computer.

Check out a free app called command post to map it all including the buttons alot easier than in MPC beats. After installing command post add mpc beats as a app in the controls- midi bank- then u will see a drop down w all apps or select the app. I use it for FCPX, logic, and other programs. It's a free, open source app that is made for video editors. Sometimes I don't know what I wld do without it cause they make midi controls rocket science in other apps lol. But yeah command post has like 16 banks of midi controls u can switch thru and a good interface to see what controls are in each bank, then beside the control is a learn button and midi cc box. What I do is set up sets of controls and save them before learning then when I wanna assign a set I just switch to the bank and learn the 8 messages real quick then boom its done.

So I am like many people I see in the comments. I have a mpk249 ,and I am not having much luck at all. First with studio one 5 pro and I seem to have much less ability in mpc beats which was sold with the controller. Do you have any videos from start to finish ? I mean I can't seem to connect to mpc beats at all?

My biggest issue is that the factory preset for MPK 249 is not accurate. Pad 2 and Pad 1 for starters are reversed.

Facts. There are quite a few discrepancies on this software. However with research you’ll find that they are mostly fixable.

@@jalittleton5791 so I'm assuming u have no mpc preset at all if preset 23 is your midi? I would be correct suggesting you look for a firmware update

That's how the old school mpc pads were, never knew why but I saw u can change it to chromatic c-1 or c1

MPK249 doesn't get much love in MPC Beats does it? It's like they forgot to add in controls and presets for it or they did all the boards up to the one after it...smh! I got the mpk249 about a month ago and it's OK but tbh I like my nektar lx25 better it just doesn't have as many keys or faders tho so it's not really better just has a better UI, they both lack hella support and software tho! Kinda wish I wld have got the komplete 49 instead or novation launchkey49. Might even sell my mpk249 but still not sure yet, I do like the edit page, 30 presets, and the encoders are dope, but the keys r ehh, faders r usable but not great by any means lol. Pads are pretty but I came up on the mpc 1000 so they seem stiff and almost bugged at times which can also work in a good way.

I have a question bud. I have an mpk 249 as well but I also have an Akai MPC live 2 not sure if you have one of the newer MPC's was kind of assuming maybe you did since you're using MPC beats software just wondered if you knew if there was a way to assigne the controls on the mok249 to control the MPC in stand alone mode? It's easily usable as a midi keyboard but it would be nice to be able to use it to play and record and assign the knobs and faders to things on the MPC live 2.

@@googlerep366 I was only on mpc beats for min, I have a mpc 1000. I was having trouble getting one of the controls to map to beats I think the knobs but I just ended up using the free app for mac called command post that will let you program any midi cc to any control on the apps menu. Has a cool little interface, it's pretty much what all daws and apps are lacking besides komplete komtrol, aurtia, and maudio they have app with a pic of the keys and controls to assign. But yeah just Google Command post and it takes like 5min to set up.

You just Email Akai and they will send a link to any Midi map for any of there products in any DAW.

@@HOLLASOUNDS I emailed aka a while back and ask for midi maps and any of the software or anything that comes with the mpk249 I bought used and they emailed me back and said sorry we cant help u lol I saved the email cause I was like how they gonna take the time to email me to say no lol

for the person asking the question this was in response to ​ @HOLLA SOUNDS is right tho. they do normally send you the midi maps and I was able to get my mpk249 linked to all controls on Mac 2,0. Mac 1000 a little but not really for that lol

I believe if you choose MPD252 instead of your MPK249 it should map correctly. Not sure why this works.

The only time I ever use the play or record button is if I’m linked to a compatible DAW, such as Ableton Live, MPC or MPC Beats. Make sure you have in in the correct setting.

lights on the pads don’t match the ones on the program you select … like the top row won’t switch to blue red blue green automatically? Or will the pad colors switch auto?

It’s very similar. I believe the 261 has more keys, if I’m not mistaken.

As of 9/2024 If you have the MPK249 & you're trying to get it to comply with MPC software then got to> EDIT: MIDI CC> MIDI to DIN: On set the global mapping in software accordingly to MPK249. Preset: 24 MidiOut. I'm connected via a MIDI hub to USB so this worked for me.
