Highly recommend using this more. Love how the machine makes the samples sound. Pitching samples with an s950 sounds absolutely amazing. Good stuff!
@eddieleonard69252 ай бұрын
Yes Yes. I run samples through this whenever I can. I love pitching samples on all akai rackmounts. Also, people sleep on the s3000xl, but I find that to be a very very functional and useful machine for manipulating samples and can still be bought for a few hundred bucks.
@JoostDNonsens4 ай бұрын
It's indeed interesting that the S900/950 are such legendary machines and still very much in use, but the S700 is never even talked about. Every other Akai S-series sampler has some kind of cult-following of different genres and eras (S1000 for early 90's/trip-hop/jungle, S3000 for techno/house/late 90's), but the S700 never pops up.
@eddieleonard69254 ай бұрын
Completely agree. I used to see the s700s for dirt cheap back in the early 2000s. I actually love that certain genres are so dedicated to these machines, because they each have their own sonic character and are very functional samplers. Between the s700, s950 and the s3000xl, I have more than enough flavors to work with at the moment. Always wanted EMUs too, but way too expensive now.

When you said "the answer is the sound" I thought "ok duh, that's the point of any piece of gear" ...then I heard it. 🤯🤯🤯 Call me crazy but I think it sounds even more distinct than the s950.
@eddieleonard69254 ай бұрын
I think it's the technically the same filter, but it might be a combination of the way you choose sample rates that makes the 700 sound so distinct. I'm having a lot of fun with this machine.

@@eddieleonard6925 i love the sound. also it has a supernice preamp without the need to for record it to have any effect(like with the s900/s950) i modded the device so that i can control the start end points of the via midi which just takes it to another level. i could send a track so you could hear it but i am not sure on how to do that

Why use the Akai for sampling and not directly into the MPC? (I'm not an MPC user). Also, which MPC would you recommend? thanks
@eddieleonard69253 ай бұрын
Good question. I sample into both machines to get different flavors of sound. The MPC 2000 is a 16 bit, 44.1khz sampler and you can't change the frequency. The s700 is a 12 bit sampler, 16khz, and you can change the frequency to whatever you want to get more sample time. Because of these specs, sampling the same sound into each machine will yield very different results. There are lots of videos and info on advice for which mpc to start out with. It really depends on your needs. In my opinion, an mpc 1000 with jjOS is a great mix between new and old & portability, but several people probably have strong opinions on this.
@poweredbyWatts3 ай бұрын
The 700 is a continuation of the 612. Critical minds ask why the 612 is still costly to acquire.
@eddieleonard69253 ай бұрын
You're right. I've wanted a 612 for years but couldn't justify the price, but the prices keep going up. The 700 has its limitations, but I love it as a 12-bit option in the studio.
