I love these Akai videos. They remind me of when I had an S2800i in the late '90s and transferred samples to it using SMIDI, because I didn't have a SCSI card in my computer. I used this program called Wav Akai 98, which made the process less painless, but no less slow.

Great playing. You showed each patch in it's best light.

Some lovely strings in this collection :) The orchestra-strings sounds quite fitting for Barber's Adagio For Strings.

Deeny Jaeger was one of the first major Synclavier users. He made a lot of his own sample banks for it.

True. It was Denny who programmed the electric gong sound used on Beat It. He also played the exact same notes on the Sync II demo album, which was essentially lifted as an intro for Beat It. Denny never got any credit at all on the album Thriller. Not as a co-writer, not as a synth programmer, not even a "thanks to".

Can you make a Roland S series tutorial? Like how to save one shot and chromatic samples?and how to Make drum hit racks or sequence songs with it in a daw

I always had a thing for Akai CDs. I wish there was software that was able to play and read Akai discs or ISOs without having to convert and lose mapping and key settings. Kontakt version 5 read them pretty good but Kontakt has been updated more than a few times since then and Akai import is not supported in Kontakt versions newer than 5.

Very interesting sounds. Could you do a video were you recreate some synth sounds from Kate Bush's Hounds of Love?

Can you make a video with the best orchestral libraries from the different offerings of those times like lets say, ilio interactive strings, Emu orchestral cds, Peter siedlakchek, PROSONUS orchestral collection, Miroslav Vitous,Ensoniq Roland orchestral library, etc, etc. just to compare them to these new orchestral plugins?...

So is that CD ROM external device transferring data with scsi straight to s1000?
@elipuebla25373 ай бұрын
I think the vintage sample libraries still sound incredible compared to the plugins.

I wish there was a way to get these CD iso's online. You can't really find them anywhere now accept ebay, and they're always inflated prices with varying quality. My 3000 would love to have some of these CD's!

Just a *small* wish Paolo. A more authentic way would be to play them from S1000 since these CDs were actually all made on S1000. When loaded, one ensures all the modulation parameters and processing are as originally designed. Also S1000 has 18dB non reso low pass while S3000 has 12dB reso filter, so the programs might sound different when played from XL. Since i know you always go for authenticity in your vids, i kinda wanted to point it out. There are just a handful of true S3000XL CD ROMs in existence.

Hi Don, yes, the S1000 was(is) the standard and I was going to use that (that's why it's on the bottom of the pile) but for some reason the drive didn't want to work with it the other day and I figured to use the 3000 to save time and do the videos. The Zip drive works perfectly with the S1000, so I know it's not the SCSI interface (which I installed myself), I'll fix the problem and will post with the S1000, or just dump 'em on the Zip.
@SynthManiaDotCom6 жыл бұрын
Could be, but I'm pretty sure it was working with the S1000 before... that said I haven't used in a fairly long while... and I have a few more SCSI drives around the studio to try but I was pretty sure the Apple one worked- then again, I vaguely remember selling a CD300 with an Emulator that I sold a few years ago and I realized this one is a CD300e, so I wonder if I sold the one that was working :^| At any rate, I'm sure I'll be able to find it or fix the issue.. with SCSI is always like that, you have to bang your head against the wall a couple of times, and then it works :-D
@SynthManiaDotCom6 жыл бұрын
I think I found out the problem. It's the silly centronics scsi cable that's bad. I vaguely remember having a centronics cable with the scsi logo on it, whereas this one that I have around doesn't have it or went bad. The reason the zip disk works is because I have other cables that are 25-50 pins, and I know those work because I use them in other samplers too. So I either look in my storage for the good 50-50 pin cable, or I'll order one on ebay if i can't find it - lol -
