Why are ppl so ignorant and keep underestimating Garp. The fact that he went head to head with roger back in the day just shows how strong he was and still is despite his age. If Roger was the king of pirates, Garp was his equivalent for the navy: instead of being named "king of the navy" (which sounds awful) he was dubbed "the hero of the marines" or "the legendary marine".

Something that makes Logia so powerful is not just the simple fact that their body is an element; while that's certainly a fact, only the weakest Logia users rely on that. The true strength of the Logia user is their ability to use that body composition to change their shape at will just by moving that element around. While a Haki-infused strike will cause damage if it hits...you still have to actually HIT them. But a skilled Logia user is capable of carefully and precisely shifting their body to completely avoid the hit in the first place.

Garp is torn between the two. On one end he’s the hero of the Navy who went toe to toe with Gol Roger in his prime. On the other end one of his grandson’s is about to be executed and the other grandson showed up unexpectedly and is literally having a life or death battle against the Navy.

Garp was actually the strongest marine in his prime. I mean he could bodied 3 admirals at once in his prime. Old garp also can take down one admiral at his own. The reason of his not being an admiral is admirals are the direct servants of celestial dragon and grap hates celestial dragon. He could have been a fleet admiral if he didnt hate celestial dragon.

Garp is stuck in between the life he chose as a marine and the love of his grandkids. You can see it from the time he sat down with Ace the frustration in his face. At the end of the day Garp chose his path and Ace and Luffy chose theirs and unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be a alternative for him in his situation. That’s probably the saddest part about it, possibly losing both your grandkids and you in some way had a hand it in due to the type of justice you believe in.
