Akaso Brave 6 Plus Review | Does it work for Motorcycles?

Akaso seems to be on a roll, making affordable action cameras that attracting a fairly consumer crowd. My goal is to see if the Brave 6 Plus can work well with my motorcycle helmet.
We motorcyclists know how much noise there is when you ride. Worse yet, there is vibration, shaky footage, and constant movement. In this video, I go over the stabilization, sound quality, and overall capabilities of the Akaso Brave 6 Plus action camera.

very good camera review. Thank you for not having music or flashy, childish graphics, just the facts.. on my motorcycle theme, KZbin channel. I have been using my old GoPro hero, three, and a Sena prism tube camera mounted to the helmet. The tube. mounts to the side with a bracket that came with the camera. I like that camera the best. It has two possibilities for use, it is either on or off. it is a tough camera. I didn’t have the bracket tight one day.. my prism tube camera fell off at about 50 miles an hour onto the asphalt. My buddy trailing behind saw something fall off my bike and bounce as high as 5 feet in the air. He stopped to find out which fell off my bike, it was my camera. It still works fine. It’s in a metal tube about the size of a roll of nickels. my hero is mounted to the chin bar with a minute I bought on eBay for around $10 that has two straps that wrap around my chin bar to hold the J mount.. I have two external microphones that I boil the wires in behind my removable helmet liner, and I put the microphones inside the ear pockets of the lining of my helmet. All of my bikes have fairings, so they help in cutting down the buffing noise. But you do not hear the exhaust with the microphones mounted inside the helmet that much.. I just bought one of these akaso brave 6+ cameras here in 2024 because of the Image stabilization feature. I see by this video that it works. I’ve watched many videos over the past month of different cameras. this camera, the 6+ has better reviews than the newer models that akaso has introduced since.. when I started shopping for this model, the 6+, I learned that they no longer make this camera model. But I was lucky enough to find New ones for sale on Amazon. I like that it can accommodate the 128 size capacity micro SD card also. My hero three and my tube camera cannot… excellent informative video. Without the distracting music or making it into a cartoon like so many KZbinrs do.

The front facing display would be useful on the 7 LE when using on a helmet. But I’m not sure if it’s better at anything else.

I had to modify my mount to make it work with the chin of my helmet. I used double sided gorilla tape. Otherwise the existing mounts don’t work too well on a motorcycle helmet. They’re not strong enough.

I have tried testing it out and I get different results all of the time. Yesterday I recorded for about 1 hour in total (consisted of multiple smaller recordings) all with the same battery. The battery indicator showed about 30-40% left when I came home. I think the battery life is fairly good. Reliable so far.

I have not tried the V50x. But from what I read and seen online, they are incredibly similar. The Brave 6 Plus is just a bit newer and more expensive.

I have the Brave 6 Plus. I'm waiting for the launch of the new Akaso 7 (not Le). The launch was delayed because of the Covid. In the meantime you can see on my channel some of my weekend rides with friends with the Akaso Brave 6 Plus camera.

Brave 6 plus is much better than the 7th generation of AKASO cameras. The brave 6 plus has better stabilisation and better 4K quality footage. The only difference is that the 7le does 4K at 60 FPS however it’s worse at that FPS as stabilisation quality decreases

Another suggestion, go over how this thing works. Mine seems to react to the mode button when it feels like it. Could be user error as this is my first action camera. Anyway, I think that a lot of people would appreciate it.

Do you mean that your button sometimes doesn’t work?

Yev Zakharov when I turn it on, it begins recording without touching a button. Pretty cool in some ways I guess. Then it’s a fight to stop recording and change modes. It could be because of the waterproof case, but the issue seems to come and go. And yes, it seems as if the button/s are stuck.

I used it in addition. Just an update, I noticed that in hot weather, even the gorilla tape can get soft and lose some of its hold.

@@YevZakharov Hey, thanks for the quick response. I noticed in your video that you briefly mentioned the Sugru product. I've seen some videos and it looks promising. Have you had any experience with it? As an aside, I'm really interested in the Brave 6 plus, and your video sealed the deal for me. Unfortunately, it's unavailable at the present time. I've looked everywhere. That might be a good sign, suggesting popular demand? I contacted Akaso and they said it "might" be available again in April. I'm also considering the Akaso V50X, as it's on sale right now and is reported to have exceptional EIS. Any experience with that model?

I have yet to try the Sugru product. So far the gorilla glue has managed to hold. I have not tried any of the other AKASO cameras. I think if I do purchase another action camera, it might be a GoPro. Though they are a lot more expensive, their stabilization is still better than the AKASO. If you don’t want to wait until April, I would also suggest looking into the Brave 7 LE.

@@YevZakharov Yes, the gopros are topnotch but as you said, expensive. And at over $400, a big investment for simply motorvlogging. Plus, with Gopro, all the attachments, mounting hardware etc are add-ons. That can quickly add up. And with the risk of the thing flying off the helmet at high speed, I think I'd rather lose a $100 camera than a $400 one.

I edit using Final Cut Pro, which definitely allows you to add music/audio. But Final Cut Pro can only run on Apple computers.

question: talking about it the stuff is one thing, but how about after the 2nd day , the pull out strap from the battery snaps. One of the batteries refused to charge. And the micro sd card , that i bought together with it, even after formatting it, doesn't work properly. And before you say: contact the customer service from Akaso, i did, and still waiting for an answer. I should have listened , and bought a go-freaking-pro instead. Not impressed at all with akaso.

To be honest, I’ve been using the AKASO to this day, and haven’t had an issue regarding the battery or the card. But I did purchase my own SD card. Which card do you get?

@@YevZakharov i bought the camera, the external microphone and sd card ( sandisk extreme 64 gb ) all at once at amazon. I have the feeling that the battery housing on the camera is real tight, and takes too much effort to pull the battery out. This puts a lot of strain on the battery, and that's how it snapped. I just received an email from akaso that they will send me a new battery kit... but I'm afraid that the problem will not be solved. Please, let me know if you have the same feeling in regards the battery and the thin pull out strap. Thanks.

I don’t have a problem with the battery straps. They fit snuggly, but not to the point where they get stuck. My advice would be to order a free replacement through Amazon. I think you got unlucky with a bad unit maybe. Amazon should be able to process a replacement for free

If you bought a GoPro you'd be complaining about how it constantly froze and crashed, making it useless cause every time you started a clip you didn't know if the camera was going to actually record it. Watch reviews for the GoPro they all same the same thing: it's great! When it actually records that is...

It’s true that most people don’t watch in 4K. But it does give you the ability to crop the video and downsize to 1080p with great quality.
