Is this Russian Tone? Or more a Franciscan?
@marias.69552 ай бұрын
It's rather a Russian orthodox tone. Not Franciscan as an Akathist is a typical orthodox prayer hymn. Although if may of course get "adopted". The community in Taizé e.g. uses quite a few orthodox chants. The need & the longing to pray is universal part of each soul's very depth. Whatever helps us to pray and to commune in some way with our Creator is good and "expedient", to use that word from the NT. Each soul must & can find its own "tools" to fine-tune and commune with the Creator. Music, hymns, sound but also candles, incense, reading the psalms, etc can be just so precious in helping us set aside our "worldly mind" and "attune" to God, to Christ, to Mary the Mother of Jesus Christ. I sure am glad & grateful to have discovered the Akathist online, on KZbin! It's such a blessing.

The only problem with this video is all the western, Renaissance and Roman Catholic pictures. This is the Orthodox akathist, so Orthodox iconography should have been used.
@mayallbeone90472 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you feel that way, but this isn't solely Orthodox. This is shared by Orthodox and Catholics alike

Catholics listen to this Akathist too. People like yourself are why our churches haven't reunited yet. We are brothers, act like it. Edit - lol @ how mad the Ortho boys are. Always the Orthodox acting like insolent children.
@TruthBeTold72 жыл бұрын
@@JuliusCaesar888 No, we are not brothers. Roman Catholics are heretics. The churches haven't united because the leaders are incompetent, and Roman Catholics refuse to repent and convert to true Orthodoxy.

I agree with you. I am a convert to the Orthodox Church from Roman Catholicism. I have nothing against Renaissance paintings, but when I look at the baroque naked angels, I get sick to my stomach. Is there a connection with pedophile clerics who ordered such things to be painted?

You mean the one I put in the description? They are not identical. You'll notice in the original, it cuts off a lot. I fixed that in this version, and was the main reason I set out to make it. I wanted to make a version that didn't take me out of it every once in awhile, but rather that remained fairly consistent throughout One thing regarding your comment about "correct" iconography, I direct your attention to the beginning portion of the Second Nicaean Council. On papalencyclicals.net, they title this area "Definitions". In this part of the council, which declared that Icons must be accepted, they do not specify "icons written in the Byzantine style, following only a specific pattern." No, they say imagery that DEPICTS Christ and the saints, of various forms. If your comment was not an attack on western iconography, but rather a belief that an eastern akathist should be presented with eastern imagery, then forgive me. There have been people on multiple videos claiming that there is something inherently wrong with western iconography, and I want to help put that idea to rest once and for all. As for eastern works being presented with eastern works, my purpose is to try and bring us together, which is why I use a mixture if iconographic styles.
@andreasm5770 Жыл бұрын
There is no "correct" iconography. The Orthodox Church accepts both the Eastern and the Western Rites, with their different iconographic traditions.
@Mike-tq2jh Жыл бұрын
@@mayallbeone9047 You created a version that is much easier to listen to, as the breaks are very noticeable in the other, thank you for your effort. However, your aim is anathema, What is there to unite over? We don't agree doctrinally, (Filoque, Immaculate conception, Papal infallibility etc) and Orthodox Christians (insofar as they're worthy of the name) intend to keep to the faith that has been handed down to them (Read 2 John, it's only one page). You cite a council, then use images that didn't exist at the time. You would have a point if all the images you used were in common use well before 787 (as problems take time to ferment before a council is called). You cannot expect the holy Fathers to be clairvoyant enough to condemn imagery made centuries after their time, no more than you can censure the Fathers of the First Ecumenical council for not having the foresight to elaborate on the Holy Spirit. So please rethink your aim, It's a slap in the face to all the martyrs/confessors of the truth to say "Oh dogmatic differences don't matter anymore, and you suffered in vain". If you want to understand why Renaissance art is not church art, here's a good place to start. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4i8mWVmqL51qbM
@mayallbeone9047 Жыл бұрын
@@Mike-tq2jh there's also no later council condemning Western art tradition. You're right, it can take a bit for something to get addressed by a council. But this never WAS And as for unity, we aren't separated by as much as some Catholics and some Orthodox make it out to be. If i remember correctly, Orthodox had a council some time ago in which they affirmed a certain understanding of the Filioque, and as for our Marian doctrines and those on Original Sin, the only division there is ones people make in their own minds. The only thing that is truly preventing communion is the Papacy and hatred that goes both way. If we get rid of the hatred, we can then work on the papacy problem, but not before. Hatred is what's keeping this schism alive, or more fitting, our union dead
@Mike-tq2jh Жыл бұрын
@@mayallbeone9047 Yes, hatred of false doctrine is what keeps us apart. May this hatred be strengthened forever. Because the desire to make distinction comes from love of the truth. We can agree that a very specific interpretation of the Filioque is acceptable to Orthodox (proceeds temporally only) But that interpretation is not what the Roman Catholic church believes, so it's fruitless to discuss, as I believe continuing this further wouldn't be of any use. Satan is the god of confusion, don't serve him by trying to muddy waters.

It irritates me that Eastern Catholics have these chants and overall took our traditions with them to Rome, but at the same time, it’s fitting that it adds chaos to the Roman Catholic Church since most of the theology is separate from the Latin rite. You guys can have chants like this and at the same time celebrate the Eucharist while doing the chicken dance. ☦️☦️☦️

@@roflingsteaks doesn't seem to cause chaos to me 🤔 would you say the same thing about different orthodox churches not recognizing the baptisms and chrismations of other Orthodox churches? And what about ordained women as deacons?
