To be fair, Akechi was wearing gloves, so it would be much, much harder for his fingerprints to be lifted from the gun, _especially_ after it’s placed in Ren’s hand. Akechi probably goes out of his way to press a few of Ren’s fingers against the grip for a second as well, we just don’t see it.

I think there’s a lot more shock factor to the game purely because the emotional shift is so strong. in the anime it’s *really* rushed and obvious, but in the game there’s a lot of quiet build up to that moment. at that point in the game, you know akechi isn’t a good guy, but you still don’t expect him to flat out kill akira on screen.

Akechi betraying you really was suuuper obvious so i thought they would do some kind of twist where he was actually good and Makoto sold us out for her sister's sake (you know, maybe they blackmailed her with killing her or something), while Akechi knew this and played dumb to save Joker and defeat the corrupt police, then he appeared out of nowhere with an evil smile and, well, i was a little disappointed lmao

Yes I agree. The anime does do some things slower though like having Akechi do the whole twirl thing to get the gun. Where Ren hits the table in the table in the animated version felt very slow almost like a feather had fallen, also in the animated version I feel like Ren just has a deadpan stare before he dies. Unlike the game where Akechi just grabs the gun, when Ren hits the table you really feel the impact and Ren actually looks scared. In my opinion if these things had been changed to be more like the game it would have been an overall better scene for the animated version.

Context: when being interrogated, a woman named Sae will ask you to sell out your friends you made in the game. She also had his phone. There's also this girl named Futaba who basically wire tapped Jokers phone, and the culprits phone, and granted her GPS signals. In the game, you get two endings based on the choices you choose. If you sell out your friends, the actual protagonist dies because you couldn't tell sae to let the culprit see his phone. If you choose not to sell out your friends, then this will allow you the option to tell Sae to show the culprit his phone. At this point, Sae will show the culprit his phone, which allows Futaba to activate a certain app that brings them into another reality, just the two of them. In this other reality, a fake joker is sitting in the same rooom. Everything is identical, so the killer doesn't suspect a thing. So instead of the real person getting killed, it is a fake instead. The killer returns to the original reality once he uses the elevator.

You will always see this cutscene in the game, regardless of your choices. If you pick the wrong choices during your interrogation with Sae, Joker will actually die here and the game will end. If you pick the correct choices, however, Joker will survive and trick Akechi into thinking he died, and the story will continue. By the way, the anime doesn't end here, there are 2 more episodes called "Dark Sun" and "Stars and Ours". You need to watch those to see the true ending.

There are still people very convinced Joker is Akechi’s best friend, the one who he truly treasures, the rival he saw himself in, a gay couple even, a tsundere phantom thief with his own morality and so on and so forth There are literally two major plot scenes that make clear the opposite. Akechi kills in cold blood because he’s madman and a criminal, he doesn’t have remorse, he doesn’t hesitate, he’s even sadistic and feels joy while killing Joker. Also he chose to be here by his own will and that was also his freaking idea. (It’s fair to argue I guess Joker reminds him of how he used to be when his mother was alive and that is the closest relationship he was without someone but that doesn’t mean they are friends or anything because if it meant something that important to him he would have never killed him like that, and shortly after he is completely fine, without remorse ready to kill every other phantom thief) Someone once said “don’t underestimate persona 5 fans, they haven’t even played the game”. If there is a perfect example of that here it is: the things Akechi’s fans says about him. Saying it’s a well written character and that you like him it’s very different than saying he’s genuinely good towards Joker, he has his own unconventional morality because he pursues good in his own way or even he’s a phantom thief who did nothing wrong and should always stay around them. Those things are just false and you are ignoring vital informations the plot delivers.

1 he states his whole reason for his revenge was for his mother 2 he hates that he grew attached to joker,Joker was put in a similar bad situation to him but decided not to linger in hate He knows the how similar they are and wants to keep a distance so he pushes away his feelings and kills joker “No more what ifs” (his theme song) is literally about him questioning if he as the will to do so. 3 Joker as the character (not the player) shows that they care for Akechi as its literally his wish that brought him back for third semester (Even the false ending shows those two enjoying each other’s company) they very much are “friends who wont admit theyre friends” I can go on more but im gonna leave it at that

@@helpihavebats6392 Him saying “it’s for my mother!” Doesn’t change he had a thousands better way to honor her memory. That’s just a mere excuse that doesn’t change anything. Akechi being conflicted about Joker is something mostly made up by fans since almost every “hint” including the no more what if song were added just in Royal. Also it’s not like he has to do something anyway and he is trying to find the resolve to do so, his revenge plan is selfish and childish but he already decided that counts more than anyone else and whoever is in his way will be wiped out. Unlike a couple of things you said that’s actually explicitly stated during Akechi’s confidant, in the pool matches. That means he has (to no one surprise considering what he does in the game) much more resolve than you said and that those lines in the song are most likely a callback to Akechi criticizing Joker for lacking the resolve he has (to do horrible things to no one’s benefit no less) and so Joker can’t beat him in pool yet because he is not determined enough to put an end to his plan yet. Also the fact Joker is a character linked to Akechi is pretty obvious, you don’t have to tell me that. The game makes it clear Joker wants Akechi back, he wished things went differently and has a conflicted relationship with him. The thing people assume is that having a couple of instances where it’s stated Joker cares in some way about Akechi isn’t the same as saying they are best friends, they love each other, Joker forgave him and therefore Akechi wants to be a better person because he didn’t mean to do what he did and he’s deep down an amazing person. All of this could be how Joker views Akechi but just because of the subjectivity of all the people who are willing to ignore all the horrible things Akechi did to Joker and pretend he was just a victim of the events. In other words if you ask an Akechi fan they love each other from the start and Akechi would never do anything bad to Joker or his loved ones. Some people are so convinced about this shit they think it’s canon and the Joker character thinks all of that. In reality all we know is “Joker would rather have Akechi alive than dead and they had a relationship where they learned from each other” that’s it, from there it is just how you as player want Joker to be. And that counts for every stupid idea you can think about, such as Joker thinking deep down Kamoshida is a good person and that’s why he’s conflicted about his first operation, do you think that’s unreasonable? Well you just said a serial murderer who shot you in cold blood with no remorse and never apologized is secretly a good person because the no more what if song text suggests he may be struggling with remorse off camera, that’s just as unreasonable. If you can go on than please do, I still cannot see how what you said would be counter my argument but I’m genuinely curious.

@@edwardsuou i never said he was a good person infact thats why i find him so interesting dont make shit up about what i said the “No More what ifs” song being of a hard decision of struggle to commit the murder does not immediately mean he is a secretly good person what i mean it is because of his relationship with joker that he doesn’t want to kill what could be his only friend though the song also states he doesn’t regret his actions leading up to this point so yeah he is a bad person still because there is no remorse or going back for the people he killed and the discussion where he has his made up is rank 7 (available only right before he betrays you) and the jazz club is gained rank 3 (available very early on) of course he has his mind made up he has to make a decision right now and where in the song is he talking a callback about joker? The only lyric i could maybe think of is “my story will be starring me just like yours.” But he has this lyric about himself “i never really doubted myself but tonight got me thinking bout it all if i am the fool or whatnot.” A line that clearly states he has doubts. Heres something did you know the song first appeared in the anime ova “Proof of justice” that takes place post Akechi death and it follows joker trying to figure out what Akechi means when he wrote down “Proof of Justice” (post death) where he goes around remembering the times they hung out which guess what the confidant hangouts added in royal came from the anime the billiards the arcade the jazzclub the anime also has them playing chess throughout the whole thing and at the end of the ep when joker sets one up by himself Sojiro asks who hes playing with and you know what says? “A Friend” he chose that word out all the things he couldve about Akechi said so yes Joker absolutely cares for him if he calls him a “Friend” after his death You dont wish back a guy to start over with if dont care about them to some extent also going to throw out that the devs said the Sumire Joker and Akechi were a love triangle In royal While i dont ship it and i dont think Joker loves Akechi or vice versa but those are their words About kamoshida the closest thing we get there is joker worrying if the use of that power is ethical or not so its pretty different situation as he didn’t have this complex relationship with kamoshida All his interactions with kamo are just nothing more then just “kamo bad and jokers gonna get him” and kamo there is a reason given for his behavior but it’s not really comparable “People have high have expectations for me and i cant handle it”(problems appeared when he won the medal and he is mature enough to try to find ways to manage that pressure) its not quite “my father abandoned my mother when she was pregnant with me causing her to have to work in prostitution where i had to leave but my mother committed suicide before i could force my father to apologize and even though hes my dad im legally a orphan in a society where there’s a bad stigma of orphans being illegitimate people.” (Problems appeared from the moment he was born and he was extremely susceptible to emotional trauma) Like can you tell me that the emotional damage that can twist a mind done by both is comparable? You could make the argument that Akechi is now old enough to go seek help but thats not how people work not how emotions work bottled up rage/hate built for so long doesn’t get let go so easily nor will the person want to let go its usually how people go about enacting those emotion where they are at fault (though it may be tainted somewhat) the dude wanted to humiliate his father put him through the hell he did and he chose murder to be that path once he obtained those powers (that the base p5 boss forced upon him) hell even the phantom thieves call him out on that I get the feeling you see this as a black and white situation when its a moral grey (a darker one at that) People like characters because they are interesting and Akechi is very interesting character And im gonna be honest the steam i had when starting the argument has completely blown off its not that i dont disagree with you anymore just i wanna go enjoy my time not having to recheck my spelling so uhh good day Feel free to continue to argue but know that i will probably read them but not continue it sorry for the double reply my bad i wanted to edit my comment

I decided to use some aspects of Akechi’s behavior and word choice for a monologue assignment in my college class. It’s based on the “king’s orders being absolute” guaranteeing results under the context of an outside character responding to a personal narrative of mine.

The narrative was about ditching class in middle school but the monologue comes into play if I had been captured by school officials. Brings the relevance of schools operating to maintain a status quo to maintain a positive reputation for society.
