My parents weren't in the military but pretty much all of my other family members had done some sort of military service and some still are in the military. I did 4 years of JROTC (Army) at my High School. I was going to go to ROTC, in college but ended up going to US Customs Training. I noticed a lot of my friends that were in JROTC, ended up not joining the military and those that never did JROTC, ended up joining the military. Also, I think people are getting the wrong idea. JROTC means Junior Recruitment Officer Training Corps, you are not actually part of the Military! It's a program that is part of your school but sponsored by the Military. So it's just like any other elective but does give you a step up if you decide to join ROTC and the Military. There's no Basic Training, Staying on a Military Base, Waking up at a certain time, etc.. You go home at the end of school, just like with any other elective. The one we did at my High School, there was marksmanship training but it was with air rifles. That and wearing a uniform, inspections, drills and the tests are as about as close to the "Military" as you get. You aren't actually serving in the Military!
@pixelated_happy18943 жыл бұрын
@provis345 p Yeah, it's def not the Military like what Aki was making it out to be. To those who made this video and those who aren't from the US. NJROTC is Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps. It is an elective course offered in HIGH SCHOOL. The basics of the course teach US Naval and military history, naval sciences, land navigation (orienteering), course plotting (sea navigation), naval rank structure, etc. There are extracurricular teams you can be part of within NJROTC such as still team both armed and unarmed, rifle team (use high powered air rifles aka BB rifles), color guard, orienteering(land navigation), academic team, physical fitness team, etc. It is usually operated by 2 or more retired military personnel known as Naval Science Instructors with one Senior Naval Science Instructor. Usually they are retired from the US Navy and are a rank of Chief Petty Officer and higher with the Senior instructor usually being a Lieutenant Commander. Cadets (students) earn rank as well and can even become officers within the program, usually referred to as cadet staff such as Company Commander, Executive Officer, Operations officer, etc. During the summer months, time between grade advancements, cadets can be offered to go to leadership academy, usually reserved for the next wave of cadet staff. After graduating high school, if students go to college with an ROTC Program, they can spend 4 years at university and in the program and earn an officer commission in the US military or they can graduate high school and attend a military academy such as US Military Academy West Point (ran by the Army) or US Naval Academy (ran by the Navy). If you decide to graduate high school and join the military with at least 2 years in JROTC, upon graduating boot camp or basic training, you will be promoted to E2 in your branch of service. I did 3 years of NJROTC (want offered my freshman year since we had no instructors), my senior year of high school I was the Operations Officer with the rank of Cadet Lieutenant. I joined the United States Marine Corps as a contract Private First Class (E2). This boosted my military career for promotions and going on boards whilst I served. I made Corporal (E4) at my 3rd year (promotions for E4 for my job were closed for a while) and made Sergeant (E5) in my 5th and final year of service (again my job had closed promotions again). It should be understood that Aki never served in the military as she stated many times in the video, they just titled the video to get click bait which in reality they are doing stolen valor on her behalf to benefit from her high school career for their views even though she kept reiterating she wasn't in the military. So no fault on her, just on the guys. That being said, NJROTC and JROTC is really really really really easy. It's not as hard as Aki was trying to make it. My senior year was the third year that my NJROTC unit was around since it began and our unit beat all the other schools in our NJROTC zone (about 3,000) for the highest award a NJROTC unit can receive, Distinguished Unit Award. It's easy. Now I get being 15, 16, 17, and 18 years old, it can seem tough but it isn't, the real military is tough, JROTC and high school in general is a cake walk. Hopefully, this has helped enlighten those whom are not from the US and helped others learn something about our nation's JROTC education program. Semper Fidelis. Sgt F. As someone who is in a JROTC program, there is a difference. A JROTC is for high school students. They are not entitled to join the military after high school it just gives them help and benefit if they do want to pursue a military career in the future. ROTC is the college program and that is where you have to serve at least 6yrs in the military after you graduate
@MrMikevargas13 жыл бұрын
Unless you want Aki “I was in the military” memes I suggest changing the title. JROTC is not the military it’s a great way to learn about the history and traditions of the military but I cannot emphasize this enough, JROTC IS NOT THE MILITARY. Anyone who’ve served in the military including myself knows how much of a joke JROTC really is and I don’t mean to offend anyone I’m just putting it out there. So please change the title. I genuinely enjoy watching you guys but I couldn’t handle the cringe.

For those who might not know (the comments section will tell, just scroll down), JROTC in general is just an elective program/class, if you spent 2 years minimum you CAN join and get enlisted into any branch, just pass the minimum requirements to be able to go to recruit training. I first enlisted on September of 2019 and spent over 1 year in the Marine Corps Poole program and on Sept 8 of 2020 I was flown to Atlanta, Georgia to get quarantined for 2 weeks then finally get on a bus to go a bus en route to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. It is 13 weeks of grueling, intense training every day. The Marine Corps is the only branch that promotes a martial arts program called MCMAT (Marine Corps Martial Arts Training), and you do during MC boot camp/recruit training as a requirement. Every new marine will start off with a tan belt after they pass the MCMAT testing. You do get to shoot, we have a whole week dedicated shooting our M16A4 service rifle, shooting tables 1 and 2, shooting up close and personal and shooting 500+ meters away; probing , crouching, and standing on the 100, 200, 300, and 500 meter line. By the time I’m typing this, Aki said recruits get around 4 hours of sleep. You actually get 8 hours of sleep, from 2000 to go to bed and 0400 to wake up and get fucked up, get fully dressed in less than 500 seconds (by your drill instructor count, because they’ll count down fast and skip some numbers). But I’ll say you get around at most 4 hours of sleep in Marine Combat Training, but then again this is the Marine Corps, other branches differ. Right now I’m currently a US Marine on boot leave and is ready to get flown out to Okinawa, Japan to get stationed there. Thanks for reading this comment, have a good day.

Watching Aki describe it makes me realize how strange JROTC can seem to people outside the US. From personal experience as a Junior and 1SGT in the ArmyJROTC program at my highschool, it really isn't that bad (of course every school is different). It's instilled in me a deeper sense of responsibility and a willingness to accept leadership roles, and has pushed me out of my shell. Uniforms never bothered me, especially with how sick they look. And enlisting as an E2 is a nice little bonus. Though not everyone does, as Aki pointed out, and those that do usually already had a desire to enlist in the first place.
@tjl46883 жыл бұрын
We don't have JROTC in Australia, but we have Cadet programs, where we do military stuff just without the guns. We wear the uniforms, do the drills, go on marches, field exercises, etc, get promotions, and it counts as credit if you choose to enlist in the actual military.

@StochasticUniverse2 жыл бұрын
@@SodaPopElectric Yeah, this. The actual purpose of something like JROTC is a "try before you buy" with no permanent commitment. You get a sense of what military life is like BEFORE you sign up, because you get no take-backs once you have signed up. You're locked in for the full enlistment period. If you can't handle being berated, the military life is absolutely not the place for you. (But remember that if Russia invades your country, you may not really get a choice. Ukraine forbade any male between 18 and 60 from leaving the country, for example.)

I spent 3 years in my highschool's AFJROTC! I participated in Marksmanship, Academic Team, and our Physical Strength Team. My Corps was really relaxed because we were small and our poor SASI was instructing alone. I really enjoyed the uniform aspect. Something about getting into our blues and making sure I was all put together brought joy into my school life. We only had physical training for one day out of the week and the rest were academic days or inspection. Roughly half of the 4years went into the military. I personally will not be joining military anytime soon but it was a fun community to be in!

It is Cadet Chief Petty Officer, otherwise known as "Senior" in High School, aka during your fourth year you normally make it. Not an actual Chief Petty Officer, which is an E-7 (can take at least 8 1/2 years to achieve or even never, as I know a few enlisted who retired at E-6) which is a Senior NCO position. The Insignia shown at 8:25 is the incorrect one.

@@rashotcake6945 You missed a letter, kid. The word isn't "based", it's "biased", lol. The American military also has a long history of fighting for just causes, too. The entire country of South Korea literally would not exist if not for the US military! Ukraine would already not exist if not for US military assistance, either. Look, you win some and you lose some. That's just the way that history goes, and part of being a mature adult is understanding that. Some of the wars are more just than others, but at least America TRIED. What did France do for South Korea? (And, as long as we're on that topic, France is responsible for starting the Vietnam War in the first place, as they had colonized that whole area as part of their empire. It was called "French Indochina" before it was called "Vietnam" and Ho Chi Minh was a nationalist who was reacting against French imperialism before the US got drawn into the conflict.) For every South Korea there's a South Vietnam. For every storming of the beaches on D-Day, liberating Europe from literal fucking Nazis and genocide, there's the fall of Kabul in Afghanistan. That's just the way it goes. But at least America cared enough to try...although, frankly, a lot of people in the US are getting fed up of the whole "America world police" thing, so the unconditional gift that we've given to countries on different continents for the past 80 years might come to an end, soon. Sucks for Ukraine. I hope they start brushing up on their Russian language skills.

I hope to try to join again under the 25 series. I got good scores on my ASVAB and one of the recruiters from the NG Armory said that since I have Associates Degree, I'd be E-3 (Private First Class). Another guy who was there had a Bachelors and might be in there as an E-4 (Specialist/Corporal) or higher. A third friend of mine went in as an 88M and is probably still at Leonard Wood, or as I heard: Lost In The Woods.
