Fruit being a luxury item in Japan reminds me of how back in the day, people would give fruit as Christmas presents. This was a thing in Europe and America for centuries. I knew fruit was expensive in Japan, I didn’t know it was $60 expensive.

The problem with fruit salad, at least in my opinion, is that the individual flavors of the fruits just get washed away and become an amalgamation of one type of flavor, "sweet." That's not necessarily a bad thing but you sorta miss the nuances of each fruit.

You think so? I think if you make sure to have fruit that vary in colour and flavour a lot and only put them together right before serving then it's really fine. But yeah if you let it sit for too long, add sugar or some to it and/or use fruits with too close of a flavour profile then it gets hard to appreciate the individual flavours

The way y'all started eating the orange and grapefruit was killing me 😭 Theirs an easier way to eat an orange and leave the skin off clean. You cut the orange the way you did, then you grab the sides, put your thumb in between the food and skin and slowly push it up to separate it (you do this on both sides at around the same time) and the food part of the orange will cleanly come off without that much of a mess. You can do the same thing with the grapefruit if you cut it into a smaller part

Fun fact with peaches since you mentioned that the seed interacted differently than the ones you're used to eating : one of the main distinguishing factors between varieties of peaches is if they're clingstone, semi-cling or freestone peaches. Chances are the one in this video is specifically a freestone variant, where the fruit does not embed into the stone or seed of the fruit, resulting in it popping out easily. Clingstones, on the other hand (and likewise semi-cling) have the fruit embedded into the stone resulting in a lot harder of a removal. Clingstones are traditionally sweeter and more flavorful than freestones, so they're a fairly popular market variety, albeit you can typically find both in their respective seasons (clingstones becoming ripe in the spring and early summer, and freestones more in the late summer and fall, at least in the northern hemisphere). Chances are, this variant is either a crossbreed, resulting in the phenotypical traits of a freestone (large in size and not clinging to the seed) while carrying the sugar content of the clingstone varieties. The more you know
